I had to have an expansive filling removed and replaced and felt no pain. I keep repeating it because it amazes me so much to not feel pain at the dentist. Dr. Castro was also great about talking through everything that would be done and asking permission about doing things. This review is long overdue! I had my braces taken off for over a decade and my smile is just as…read morebeautiful as it was then all because of Dr. Masaki. We found his ad on a local newspaper. He mentioned something about not pulling teeth and that already got me hooked. Yes he's stuck on his old fashioned machines but his technique was one of a kind. He had his own way of perfecting smiles so he made his patient's braces unique too. Not crazy looking but enough to show differences from the initial consultation. He brought a tooth that was behind other teeth forward and brought down. He also widen my mouth and turned around a few teeth that were sideways or better yet, imperfect. He created his own molds; one for the consultation and one when the braces are removed. You have the option to keep your molds at the end. I got my retainers done from his as well. And to this day, my dental hygienists and dentists look at my retainers with fascination. Just like his techniques, his retainers are artwork. His expertise is second to none. Him and his wife are such wonderful people. They truly cared about the well-being of their patients. If they couldn't pay upfront, flex payments were available. I hope his daughter took over his practice and learned his techniques while incorporating with her own. I'd recommend anyone to get their braces and/or retainers done here.

I'm not going to bore you with details on the technique or facility, the previous reviewers have already covered the basics. What I will comment on is the service. Going to the dentist, I don't expect top-notch customer service but at least some decent customer service is appreciated. I was referred to Dr Masaki by word of mouth for TMJ treatment. I decided to go with his office because of his years of experience in this field, his technique, and most importantly because they took flexible payments (the treatment/procedure costs upwards of $4K). The follow-up treatments are free for life. Dr Masaki would lean his elbow on my forehead/top of my head. Seriously, who does this? I've lived in many different places in my 26 years of existence and have seen many different dentists. Never have I experienced a dentist using my head as a stabilizer. I've kindly asked him a few times in the past to try not to lean on my head because it messes up my hair; and if I have somewhere to be after, I don't want to worry about my hair being messed up. He laughed it off and his response hinted at him seeing me as being vain. Yeah, and what? Because really, why should your HAIR be messy after seeing the dentist? Really. Point is: that's unprofessional!!! Now let's address his wife and receptionist Marilyn. This lady is a ball of sunshine. (I was being sarcastic.) She's more pleasant in person than she is on the phone so don't be put off by your phone relations. IN CONCLUSION: if you're looking for a dentist to cure your TMJ that accepts flexible payments and you don't mind potentially experiencing the above (or something similar), then please see Dr Masaki. He's a friendly old man that'll help take the pains and aches away. But also be prepared to listen to him brag about how he created this technique and that he's the ONLY dentist on the island who knows how to do it (lies).

Jodie (the best dental hygienist!) and Dr. Revestir always take the time to check in on me, remember my life updates, and aren't quick to always push for surgery/treatment. I appreciate Dr. Revestir's approach of, "Let's not rush into anything yet, let's monitor it and see." The experience here is inconsistent. I have an assigned dentist who is one of the younger sons or…read moregrandsons. When I've seen him, I have had a thorough exam and discussion. However, I never see the same person in sequence for teeth cleaning and when the older doctors come in afterwards, it's really cursory - no jaw exam no tongue exam, one didn't even touch my teeth or look in my mouth. Then they applied resin by almost spraying it on. There was resin on my gums and a thick layer on my teeth with globs between my teeth. They most definitely did not paint it on. It was so gross. I water picked it off after an hour. I think I'm not going back there. The front desk staff is very nice and it is a pleasant office. I know a lot of people in Kailua really like them and they are good community citizens, but this is the third Cleaning visit. I've been disappointed, today was the worst. Maybe it's just my bad timing.

Her friend's son was organizing a Blood Drive in conjunction with the annual Blood Drive that a dentist's office in Kailua sponsors every 4th of July weekend. Hmmm... She knows that I am a regular blood donor. I was scheduled to donate in June, and I juggled my schedule around so that I could support two worthwhile projects at the same time! This event was well organized with live music; free shared parking in the lot next to Jack In The Box on Oneawa Street; and goodie bags for donors! It made me want to participate every year! If you're able to donate blood, please consider signing up for a convenient bloodmobile near you - or at the Dillingham or Young Street locations of the Blood Bank of Hawaii. Thanks to Dr. K.B. Recently moved back to Hawaii in September so needed to find a new dentist for my family & I. Found Kaneohe Family Dental Care here on Yelp and luckily they happened to take my insurance (Tricare). I've actually been putting off finding a dentist because I've been so busy with other things, but I had a tooth break off (it was actually a newer crown I had put in, I think, in May 2016 or so) and Bobbie was able to squeeze me in the same day but I ended up needing to go the next day instead which wasn't any problem. She recognized me right off the bat with my missing front tooth and was just as friendly in person as on the phone. I waited about two minutes before a technician/hygienist (I never know what anyone's job title is!) brought me back, I think her name is Allie and she's also very nice, she talked to me a little to get a short history and not too long after, I met Dr. Keller who took very good care of me. I never felt rushed and he gave me his recommendations and made sure I understood all my options but did not push anything on me. This happened to be a few days before the New Year so he and his wife were just about to fly to the mainland to spend the holiday with their daughters so I felt very fortunate they could fit me in as I'm pretty sure I'd be hard pressed to find another dentist at that time. I ended up needing to get a retainer thing they call a flapper, kind of like a denture I think, which took about a week to make -- though I do really want an implant, my mouth needs a LOT of other work (I've got several molars missing and other nonsense due to lack of dental insurance in the past) so before setting me up with that he's working out a treatment plan for me so we're not just jumping around my mouth and ending up doing something unnecessary (I appreciate this though I hate having to use this retainer!) Since my initial appointment I think I've been back twice, once for my retainer fitting and another for a routine cleaning and new patient X-Rays. For my cleaning I worked with Donna who was VERY informative; I learned more during that one cleaning than I ever have about taking care of my mouth and now my gums are looking & feeling better than they have in a long time. I've also had both of my sons in to see Dr. Keller just today and they had a really great time. They were able to take them back without me and I guess it seemed so fun my mom (who came as back-up) wants to switch dentists now. They made balloon heads out of rubber gloves and gave them each a toy from their "treasure chest", both of which they are still enjoying. I'm really happy with my experience and definitely recommend Kaneohe Family Dental, their name may suggest they treat patients of all ages but in my opinion I think it's also because they treat their patients like family.

This office has you sign paperwork based on what they think your insurance will cover, proceeds with treatment, and then later sends you a bill for anything your insurance did not pay. You end up being responsible for those unexpected charges. In my experience, the office does not take the time to properly verify coverage--especially for procedures that are already in progress. Communication around costs is unclear and can be misleading. On top of that, the office manager is extremely rude, and the staff is not welcoming or friendly, which makes the overall experience even more frustrating. Save yourself the stress and consider going elsewhere. Also, keep in mind that this company operates multiple locations across the island, so your experience may be similar at their other offices as well.
