I would give 10 stars if I could. I was vacationing in Kailua from the mainland for a couple of weeks and broke off a crown on one of my top front teeth. Looking like a Jack-o-lantern stopped being cool at about age 8, so I was very motivated to find some help. I called around to a few dentists and Dr. Hannah's practice immediately distinguished itself. Sylvia at the front desk was INCREDIBLE: empathetic, friendly, professional, helpful, and really "on it." She was able to work me in the following day, and I got treated --affordably, as a self-pay patient - right on the spot. Dr. Hannah and his assistant were TERRIFIC: kind and efficient, and their work was high quality. Whenever I have to trek over to the other side of the Pali Hwy., I kinda mentally "grumbled" about the drive. Since we live in town, going to the dentist within a few miles is the norm here for townies...LOL! However, we chose to trek "that far" to see our dentist for years in Kailua because Dr. Hannah is such a talented dental doctor. Not only is he professionally competent, he's also down-to-earth in person. Extremely glad we're referred to him by a dental friend who has worked with many Oahu dentists. Dr. H's ability to provide updated information, implement modern techniques with precision and care as a skilled dentist makes each one of my 30-mile-round-trip to his office totally worth it. You see, what makes Dr. Hannah stand outs more than any other dentist is that Dr. Hannah doesn't take shortcuts. Rather, he does it the "right way" even if it meant taking the more difficult remedy. For instance, he was one of the only dentist (just a few years ago) on Oahu performing the lanap laser surgery as opposed to the "fast and dirty" physical-cutting oral surgery. Instead, Dr. Hannah is more concerned with doing it the right way through the use of alternative therapies, i.e. the time-consuming lanap procedure. This procedure took more time but he wanted to get it done right and the office visit was pain-free as well as less bleeding time. As a result, this slow (and definitely more work) method made it so gums can healed quickly vs. the traditional "physical-cutting" option. Another outstanding instance where Dr. Hannah proved he's the best dentist around has to be our "pearl" in the wisdom tooth (actually teeth) episode. Prior to the extraction day, we requested to have our mainland dentist stopped in for a "meeting of the minds". Any other dentist might have had what we termed "ego-related issue" but not Dr. Hannah. Since this "pearl" situation is so uncommon, the expertise required at Dr. Hannah's office proved fruitful since both experts concurred during this double examination day. Not a hitch at all when the actual procedure finished on the next day. Located in Kailua's Pali Palms Plaza across from Aikahi Safeway, the place is quite convenient to the H-3 freeway on-and-off ramp. Building has easy access and its covered parking lot is a nice bonus too. The office environment is clean, quiet and they got a good working staff. Definitely would recommend Dr. Hannah in a heart beat to anyone interested in not only great general-dental needs but also quality work on cosmetic dentistry i.e. teeth whitening, braces and Invisalign. And I especially liked Dr. Hannah's handling of the ever-so common TMJ problems. The way Dr. Hannah treated my TMJ issues were super progressive and smart! read more

I have been going to Dr. Hannah for about 3 years now. I switched Dentists as I was not happy with the repair my current dentist had done on my front tooth. He (Dr.Hannah)came recommended by my husband's orthodontist at the time... My front was redone with a new bonding process by Dr. Hannah. After he completed the process, I was blown away at perfect the tooth looked! I even could literally not tell which tooth had been repaired! That is my first experience after years having my chipped tooth being repaired that I had a near perfect job done! Ecstatic with the results! Got a root canal here the other day from Dr. Hannah. Get this: no pain at all through the whole procedure, and then no pain AT ALL after the anesthetic wore off. I was literally eating potato chips an hour after my root canal. With zero pain or discomfort. I had heard that root canals had become less painful since back in the day, but come on; zero pain? With that said, I was curious as to how my first non-military dentist experience in over 8 years would be. Happy to report, LOVED Kailua Dental Arts and I will happily recommend them to anyone! Location: Across Pinky's in the medical building on the 3rd floor. Call if you get lost, they're wonderful at directions :) Office: Not sure what smell they have going on but it smells so, clean and refreshing as soon as you walk in. The decor is relax and immediately you are calmed and ready to get your smile worked on! The staff is wonderful, everyone is so friendly and they remember you every single time you come in! My dentist was actually Dr. Shim, who is SO wonderful. Her chair side manner is amazing. She truly engages you and makes you feel comfortable. Dr. Shim cleaned my teeth as well as other things during my several appointments. You can tell that she is so well versed in handling any type of patient. She is a perfectionist who wants to make sure you are healthy, happy and satisfied! I was utterly impressed at the techniques that they used on my teeth....they were so fast but so precise at the same time. She seems so in tune with her patients....and she genuinely cares which I feel is hard to find with any medical professional these days. Just the other day she called to check up on me and make sure that I was doing just fine! Talk about FANTASTIC customer service. Over heard Dr. Hanna speaking with some children in a couple chairs over and just by the sound of their conversation, you can tell he works well with children as well. This place is great. It´s clean, everyone is real professional and accommodating. I have had two wisdom teeth pulled by Dr. Hannah on two separate occasions, and he was so much better than my previous dentist. Fast, but thorough, and I was fairly comfortable (considering) after. No major pain, and great follow up too. Dr. Sontagg is equally good, she has fixed a few cavities for me, and I love seing her as well. No matter which doctor I get, I am happy with the result. However, this review is mostly to praise the dental hygienists here. I have seen both Kari, who did a superficial cleaning, and Katy, who did a deep cleaning. My gums are super sensitive, but they really take their time cleaning my teeth and being gentle and thorough. Kari actually gave me her daughters appointment to squeeze me in (my insurance was going to run out), I thought this was too nice! Katy spent a long time cleaning, explaining, making me feel comfortable and it was a much better experience than I anticipated going into it! Cost-wise, they were really sweet, my original estimate was wrong. But; they still gave me the price I was quoted the first time! Another unexpected plus. I was willing to pay the extra portion, but they took it off my bill. Just like that. Anyways, I only have good experiences with this place. I´d recommend this place any day =) read more

Staff here is local and very friendly. I can't speak for everyone but a visit to the dentist is one of my worst nightmares. Dr Hannah and his staff are among the best at keeping patients calm, & even entertained during whatever procedure u may be having. Staff remembers your name you particular fears, likes and dislikes, not to mention Dr Hannah is a wiz at hiding the needle and making the numbing shots nearly pain free. I love Kailua Dental Arts! The entire office is friendly and helpful and they welcome you by your name. But more than anything, it is the most thorough cleaning and exam I've ever received. Not only do they clean your teeth well, and make sure you are comfortable while they are doing it, but they go above and beyond to inform you and teach you techniques to take better care of your teeth. Even when I have been bad at flossing or have an occasional cavity, they never shame me, but teach me ways to take better care of my teeth going forward. I saw Dr. Sonntag for a filling and it was the best dental experience I have ever had. I've had many awful procedures in the past where I wasn't fully numbed and felt a ton of pain. Dr. Sonntag numbed the area with gel before giving the novacane injection and I literally didn't feel a thing. I was numb within 3 minutes. It only took her 20 minutes to do the filling from start to finish. I highly recommend this practice for people with anxiety about going to the dentist. read more

The entire staff at Kailua Dental Arts is remarkable in their professionalism and their compassion. I count each one of them as a friend. We started going because our adult daughter had severe tooth pain and has been afraid of the dentist after a harrowing experience. Dr Hannah offered sedation dentistry. Our daughter is always treated with such kindness and her many dental issues are taken care of one at a time with care and expertise. As a result of our daughter's care, our whole family goes to Kailua Dental Arts. My 95 year old mother goes once a month for cleaning to try to keep her original teeth as long as possible. Who wants to go to the dentist every month? I do! I love taking my mother because of the remarkable staff and the family feeling we have there. I will never bring my kids here again. I was told that my 5 year olds teeth (they were loose) will not fall out on its own. I paid $100+ to have one extracted. Then got a second opinion for the second tooth. According to the doc that did the second opinion...the teeth usually fall out on their own and does not need to be extracted. Sure enough my child's tooth fell out. They seem like used car salesman, pushing you to get things done that aren't necessary. I've talked to other parents and they too have experienced the same. read more

Dr. Anna Truong and staff are AMAZING!!! My (3&5yo) boys and I are so happy we chose Kailua Dental Arts. They were incredibly thorough, very patient and made the boys feel comfortable during the exam. I really like this place. It's hard to find. I've gotten lost a few times in the building. My only dislike about this place is that every single time I go, even though the show up ten or fifteen minutes earlier than my appointment, I always wait at least ten minutes after my scheduled appointment.
