Severely overbooked. Expect long wait times and very limited availability for appointments. After 2 years and 10 months of wearing braces, the day to remove them finally came for my daughter today. We had already gone in 2 months earlier for a check up to ensure she was ready for removal. But for some reason it was only on the day of removal that Dr. Morita noticed a GAP between the canine teeth. He proceeded to tell my daughter that her teeth were smaller than normal, which caused the gap. WHAT? I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure her teeth have been the same size throughout the 3 years! Prior to the removal appointment, I had already decided to change orthodontists so we proceeded with the removal. I requested Dr. Morita to call me as I wanted to get further clarification as to why the gap was not identified earlier. I also wanted to personally linform him of my reasons for leaving his practice. Instead of calling me (is it too much to ask for 5 minutes?)....he sent me an email and offered to put the braces back on. WHAT? I had planned to leave his practice quietly, but his lack of taking accountability is unacceptable. I was recommended by my GD (Ha'iaka Dental Studio) to Morita Ortho for treatment. From the start, Dr. Morita and his staff were very thorough and honest about the whole process. I chose braces for my treatment, and they explained that it would take some time to adjust in the beginning. During my first month, I called once or twice because I was getting cold sores. Even though it wasn't an emergency and was just my mouth adjusting to the wires, they still made time to fit me into their busy schedule and reassured me everything was fine. That extra care really stood out to me. They didn't have to bring me in, but since day one they've gone above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable. Now I'm four months into treatment with no cold sores, no wire issues, and no complications at all. I have to say.... I am so impressed!!! During this pandemic and keeping safe. The staff have made it very comfortable to be at their office. Their system of appointment reminders, the process to check in virtually, their appointment system, their everything is wonderful. The kids had an appt at 8am. We completed the consent forms online. They advised us that a seat was ready - kids went up the elevator to the 10th floor- suite 1000. Were done and back to the car at 0830!!! The kids handed me an appointment paper. I called them - and at 0834 we had their follow up. So efficient. I am so amazed by their efficiency. The front office are so pleasant. It's nice to call them. The parking are at either the Bank of Hawaii building or at Ala Moana. I think it's the 4th floor parking at Ala Moana that they have a connecting bridge to the Bank of Hawaii parking that leads to the elevators as well. (That's confusing- I know). The parking is a hit and miss. It's not the Office fault. Some people don't know how to park in lines and sometimes take up 2 spaces at the Bank of Hawaii Bldg parking. As an adult, I completed Invisalign with Dr. Morita's team for 2 years and it was an exceptional experience. They really set you up to be successful in taking care of your teeth especially long after treatment, which meant teaching their patients responsible habits during the Invisalign process. After all, it is a lifetime investment. Their team's pretty solid and everyone seems to really enjoy working there. Their patient area is more open concept, so there really isn't any barriers for privacy. That didn't bother me and I couldn't see what was happening in the next chair over anyways. I currently have braces and usually go to the Aiea office for follow ups. However because of my schedule I decided to go to the Ala Moana location this month. For some reason I my GPS didn't bring me to the exact spot. The last time I went to the Ala Moana location was over a year ago so I didn't remember exactly where the building was. The receptionist (which I wish I remembered her name) was so helpful. She stood on the phone with me while I tried to find the location while walking around the area. I was overwhelmed and I offered to reschedule since I was about 15 min late already due to getting lost. She remained patient with me and got me to the area. We scheduled an appointment by phone, very polite. We wanted an appointment that figures out when will I get braces. A week later, we go to Ala Moana, to reserved parking. Directions confusing, and five frustrating minutes later, we finally find the green stalls. Because of a stupid driver of a Toyota, we have to squeeze in a different stall. I won't take away any stars, since it is not Morita's fault, but that definitely decreased my patience. We arrive on the tenth floor, room 1000. The sight that greets my eyes is a pretty big waiting room, and a kind employee who checks us in and calls us in in a mere 3 minutes. I find this very impressive. After a few checks on my teeth, we are sent into a office to wait. The nice lady asks us a few questions about insurance, and we small talk for a while. Then the doctor comes in, with vanilla scented gloves. Dr. Scott is amazing. He gave us a accurate review of my teeth. See you next Christmas! read more

This review is for the Ala Moana location, BUT it can be for the Aiea location, as well because it is the same staff. Morita Orthodontics is located at the Ala Moana Building on the 10th floor, suite 1000. There is a paid lot for the building, or you can park at Ala Moana and walk over. (I honestly don't know if this frowned upon or not.) The office is cozy, but has gone through a renovation since I had braces (almost 30 years ago). There is a TV, magazines, and games for the little ones to stay occupied. The front office staff are so friendly. I am always greeted with a cheerful, "Hello!" You sign in via laptop and wait to be called. Once you go in to the back, there are the examination chairs. You are also treated to a floor to ceiling view of the Nordstrom apartment building and part of Kapiolani Blvd. I have known Dr. Randal Morita since I was 13. Needless to say, it's a long time. I was his patient when he only had one office located at the Aiea Medical building. Dr. Morita has always treated me with kindness and care. Even though my braces treatment caused me some pain, Dr. Morita always made sure that I knew what to expect. I listened to everything he told me & 15 months later, the braces came off!!! Woohoo! Flash-forward a 'few' years, and my kids need braces. Well, no brainer. I went straight to Dr. Morita! I trusted him with all 3 of my children. Again, he treated them with the same exact care he gave me all those years ago. Recently, Dr. Randal's son, Dr. Scott has joined the practice. He is so energetic! Always has a smile on his face and always putting the patients at ease. He's a great addition to the practice! I went here thinking Dr. Morita was a dentist. He's not. He's an orthodontist. Duh. Well, of course then, he couldn't give me the implants my old dentist said I needed. However! Despite this fact, I can say that his staff are indeed really prompt and sweet, and even though he couldn't do anything for me he set about trying to give me a recommendation, then took a look at my teeth and let me know that there wasn't at all enough space for implants. He talked with me about my options for several minutes and then let me go without charging me. Not only did he know his dentistry stuff better than the actual dentist I'd last seen, but he was honest, professional and considerate. (Also, I saw a lot of kids in the waiting room as well as children's books here and there, and just based on him being cool I think he's probably a great choice for kids, too.) read more

If your orthodontist can make you feel cool to have braces as an adult, then they DESERVE 5 stars. Not only that, the staff is super friendly (yes im STILL seeing him, will get more into that later) during my three year braces relationship, they pretty much turned into family. No shame, that I was 21 with braces at the time. My 3 year relationship was not an easy one, I would always bail on my appointments (not saying you should be doing that), didn't really "take care" of them (don't follow in my footsteps), etc. etc., YET, Dr. Morita was still encouraged me throughout my time with them. So... after i got my braces off, I received my retainer, which i never wore, which led to me not going to my follow up appointment, which led to me dodging their calls and emails. I finally gave in, and went to my follow up appointment. Ugh.. so shame (i even posted a facebook status about how scared i was). I'm over here thinking, okay so now his son works with him, and they are both gonna get on my case.. NOPE! ^______^ they gave me a second chance with my retainer and also were super cool about it! um.. not saying that I've gotten better with wearing my retainer, and I hope they read this AFTER my ortho appointment tomorrow.. but it's nice to not have an anxiety attack before visiting a "mouth doctor". Best orthodontist ever! I wish the man could be my regular dentist, but alas, at least I have him should I ever need braces again. Dr. Morita has a warm, down-to-earth personality that makes it easy and comfortable to interact with --- despite his medical background, he doesn't carry around a lofty attitude. I had braces as a teenager for over 3+ years (the worst kind of patient: never wore my rubber bands, never wore my headgear, tongue thrusted, etc.) Two years ago, my lingle (sp?) bar cracked after I bit into an apple --- the bar was a piece of wire placed in the back of my bottom teeth to prevent shifting. Concerned about my teeth shifting & causing gaps, I went to see him. He was able to alleviate my worries, recommend the most basic service that I needed (a bottom retainer; my fear was having to go through the process of wearing braces again!), and do so in an extremely hospitable, professional and kind manner. I've seen him over the last 2-3 years to obtain an upper retainer and a bottom retainer since I lost my original ones over a decade ago. For retainers, they take a mold of the entire bottom or top section of your teeth, mail it away to a lab on the mainland & the lab produces a retainer that's specific to your mouth. This gets mailed to Dr. Morita's office and then they do some minor tweaking to get the perfect fit for your mouth. FYI, he splits his time between his 2 practices -- one in Honolulu and the other one is in Aiea. His Honolulu office is popular with young kids and teenagers --- I always see several of them when I'm waiting for my appointments. MS. CELLANEOUS: - Takes the time to sit down one-on-one with you to listen to your concerns, determine what your needs are, and offer his professional opinion/recommendations. - Very honest. He doesn't attempt to upsell or add more products/services that he feels you don't need. - Staff are always so pleasant, positive and kind! - Waiting room is comfy, minimal selection of magazines (Honolulu magazine is one of 'em) & there was free coffee the last time I went! (2 months ago) - Automated message machine will call you the day before your appointment to remind you of it - They take Hawai'i Dental Service (HDS) - You check in to your appointments by logging in to a computer @ the front - how smart! No more having to flag down staff members. - Has a token reward system for kids/teens wearing braces --- they can save up the tokens to redeem for gift cards to places like Jamba Juice! read more

Do not hesitate to select this practice. They are incredibly warm, friendly, skilled, and trustworthy. They won't overcharge you or do work that is unnecessary. We were visiting from the mainland and had an urgent ortho issue that they resolved immediately and did so free of cost. After calling several other local practices who quoted fees from $200 to protocol requirements consisting of a full set of x-rays and assessment to simply cut a long wire, Morita took us right in, fixed the offending wire plus trimmed 3 other long wires for my daughter all for no cost.
