I have never been to an orthodontist before so this is my first experience. When I walked in I was greeted with smiles and everybody was in an up beat mood. It was nice to be surrounded by positive energy. My evaluation was pretty interesting with the technology that they had there. They scanned my teeth and a month later I was wearing my Invisalign. It was an easy process and it was very comfortable. They had nice music playing and the place was clean and organized. The person that worked on me was Aileen and she was a breath of fresh air! She was not only comforting but extremely professional and said she was in the business for over 20 years and she loves what she does. She communicated with me through the entire process and made sure I was always comfortable. Sucking my thumb as a kid + playing clarinet for 10 years = overbite to the max. My teeth needed a lot of help and Dr. Caswell was there to save them! My journey with braces began last last year when I had set-up a consultation meeting with Dr. Caswell and her team. Everyone in the office is super nice and it was so cool when they recognized my boyfriend even though he hadn't been at their office for over 7 years! One of her offices is located across from the Honolulu Academy of Arts, next to the gas station. Note: be sure to drive DOWN Ward Avenue...good luck if you're attempting to drive up...Another new office will be near the Kahala McDonalds #exciting!~ Overall things to consider as a parent or individual: Braces are like investments. Why? 1. Research - Like investments, you need to do your research. What type of braces to get (Invisalign vs. traditional wire). The pros/cons with each time. The best way is to also go in for a consultation. 2. It costs money - Assuming you did Step No. 1 above, you'd know approximately how much it'd cost. 3. It takes time - Your investment won't grow overnight, it'll take time. Braces can take awhile especially if you're not diligent and/or following doc's instructions. My Invisalign screwed up my bite and after so many years, nothing was resolved. Any time I voiced concern, she treated me like I was dumb. My teeth were hitting so wrong that they started chipping. I went to Dr. Caswell when I was 12 years old. I was so scared to wear braces, I remember begging my mom not to make me get them. And my older sister not making it any better for me had just got them off and was telling me all the horror stories of having them and how they were painful and made you look ugly, I never wanted to get them! But first day I got them on me, it actually was a fun experience. I was in the room with other kids my age and we were all scared. But the staff was very nice. And they reassured us that we would all be fine, so not to worry. I also had the option of choosing what colors I wanted. I usually went with greens, blues, silvers, and grays. Dr. Caswell was very nice, she always asked if I was alright. I'll admit there were some uncomfortable moments for me. Because my teeth were so crooked and bad, I had to wear braces for 3 years! Also had to wear those rubber bands. They were uncomfortable at first, but I got use to them after a while. Also tightening the brackets was a weird feeling. The most uncomfortable for me was putting these strange metal rings around the back of my bottom teeth. Boy was that painful! But I slowly got over it. :/ After 3 years passed, I finally got my braces off at age 15. I was lucky to get them off before my senior year. No one wants braces in their senior pictures! But I wore retainers for a little while, and since then my teeth have been straight. People usually worry about that "train tracks" look where you can see where the brackets were, and it leaves those certain marks after getting them off. Fortunately I didn't have them. And they gave me a huge box of crest white strips, and trust me, they really really work! My teeth were so white and bright! At times braces were a bummer, because they were ugly on me. But im happy to have them off. Just make sure you follow the directions and you will have them off sooner than you know it. Today when I look at my smile in the mirror, im proud to say, thanks for making me get those damn braces mom. :) read more

I understand the poor reviews, braces are a process and require discipline. It's not solely the orthodontist's responsibility. It takes great effort to keep your teeth aligned and your smile radiant. Some people don't get it. The office is modern, welcoming and comfortable. The staff are warm and so accommodating. I spent some time in the busy office and saw many happy patients with beautiful smiles in progress. Dr. Caswell gave me a treatment plan and I was very pleased with her honesty. I was a referral. My original retainer was starting to break down. I was told I could have the original fixed or get a new one which was spring loaded.. When I asked which is best? Replace or repair? I was told to replace it. When I started wearing the new spring loaded retainer which cost about 250 for top and another 250 for the bottom, my teeth moved even more and I wasn't happy. This was definitely a mistake. When I asked how could I get my teeth lined up to how they once were, I was told that I would have to have braces all over again. What? After only 16 months? I couldn't afford spending another 5-6 thousand dollars again. Thank goodness I kept the original retainer and didn't give it to them to discard because by using the original one again, my teeth went back to almost pristine lineage. For the record, she is very nice and the office is very posh and clean. read more

I'm so excited to get my braces off tomorrow!!!I love the staff here. It is so sad I wont be able to see them as often! My favorites include Ano, Remi, Julie, and Leslie. The rest of staff is great too because they always welcome you with a big smile. Dr. Caswell is fantastic and very gentle. I have a terrible under bite. But after rubber bands and her great treatments I now have my desired overbite. She has three locations. I most frequent the ward office which is in the same building as the Honolulu club. In her office she provides free water and lots of magazines. The office is also spacious and well decorated. Dr. Caswell and her team are truly the cream of the crop. Her and her technicians walked me through the entire Invisalign process, financing options, steps for progress evaluations, and were ultimately there to answer any questions I had. Every visit is efficient and productive. I've never spent more than 5 minutes in the waiting room. The receptionist, Tracy is always extremely professional and courteous. Dr. Caswell is wonderful. Her office staff are almost all really really friendly. The environment is warm and inviting. Parking at the Ward location can be tricky but the kahala location has tons. They offer traditional braces and one of the best invisilign programs I've ever seen. They do auto billing which is really convenient. Only issue here is cost. About 20 percent higher than the mainland for same treatments even if you transfer in mid treatment. read more

This review is based solely as a guest. My wife needed to get a new retainer. So I decided to accompany her to the office. Wasn't difficult finding this place using my iPhone, however I could see how you could miss this place without it. The orthodontist is located in a building off Ward Ave. With plenty of Visitor Parking available. If you are facing Mauka in the parking Garage the access to the office is near the left elevator and stairs. The check in for my wife was a breeze and staff was extremely friendly and helpful in explaining how long the process would take. They took my wife in on time! Which usually never happens lol. Usually I'm not a fan of waiting in offices. As it tends to get boring especially if your phone is dead, however their were plenty of "new magazines". They even have a television to keep the young ones occupied. The decor in the waiting area and office was very modern. I was also impressed that they even had a rewards program for patients, in which they could win gift cards etc. Thankfully I have straight teeth so most likely would not be using their services. However I would definitely recommend this place to others. read more

Invisalign - I actually had service with Dr. Caswell from 2006-2008 (before my Yelp days). Her work with my teeth was phenomenal. My teeth are still perfect as the day I left in 2008. I even had a complicated missing tooth toward the back and the tooth behind it needed to be moved in the up position before I could get a bridge placed in between the teeth. She was great to work with and their office was extremely informative every step of the way. They even added some frames after it was done because she wasn't completely satisfied with my bite to make sure it was perfect. I am so grateful because I didn't even know how my bite was supposed to be before working with her office. She also provided me a great military discount and for paying in full which substantially lowered the price. Thank you for the great experience 8 years later! I made the mistake of getting braces on the Big Island. The orrhodontist there accidently extracted one of my teeth which is now mostly attached by the braces themselves. I called Ms Caswells team to see if they could help remove the braces. They assured me they could. I flew over but she decided to pass on the job. That would have been fine but she told my new dentist he could remove them with pliers. What the??? This rattled my new dentist as well as myself. read more

The one star are is for the nice girls who work with Dr Caswell. Dr. Caswell is one of the most unapproachable doctors that I have ever met. She was the only one out of four orthodontists who I saw who said I was a perfect candidate for Invisalign..... I should have thought "red flag" but it was exactly what I wanted to hear! Invisalign was a horrible choice. Though my teeth looked perfect, it completely ruined my bite! One side of my teeth met up & the other side didn't.... never had this issue before! Why was she the only person to say Invisalign was a good option? Probably because she makes bank on these cases & only sees you ever couple months..... I'd never do Invisalign again! Regular braces are a guarantee but Invisalign is gamble whether it works & you'll never get that perfect smile that braces can give you. After leaving this office, I've had to go to another orthodontist to fix the issue I had. Now I'm using regular braces to get the job done. 4 years of this! Kimi was like the wizard in the closet, so hard to have a conversation with, to get ahold of, I felt she talked down to me.... it was the most stressful situation & it felt like the girls in her office were afraid of her too. I feel like just wanted to make a buck on me by encouraging me to do Invisalign while 3 other orthodontists on island discouraged me in doing so. Her big fancy office fools you. You think she must be good to have this amazing place..... she needs your money to pay the overhead. I don't trust her judgement from my experience and I'm writing this so that no one else finds themselves in the same horrible predicament. It's not good when you can't talk to your doctor or feel that you are being heard. She did give me some out of the huge amount of money I paid when I said I was leaving. That was fair on her part but I'm into thousands more now just to fix the problem that happened because she encouraged me to do in Invisalign. Don't do it! If you go with her, do standard braces! I went to five orthodontic opinions, I did my research on what kind of braces to get. This is one orthodontist you should avoid, I don't feel like she makes suitable recommendations, and she's way overpriced. All of the orthodontist except Kimi suggested to get standard braces. She suggested to get invisalign. I find it very intriguing that she has the probably the nicest facility in the islands. She probably suggests invisalign to everyone because it is pricier, and to help pay her rent. Just a thought. read more

Professional, warm, and caring! Our son has been going to Dr. Caswell and her team for almost three years. They're professional, warm, and caring. When I shared during the consultation that my son did not care for the dentist and was extremely anxious about getting braces; they heard my concern and listened. On the day that my son got his braces, we were warmly greeted by Dr. Caswell and her team. Leslie, our Orthodontic Assistant, was the lucky person to be assigned to my son. From the get go, she was funny and personable. She also told my son that she would explain EVERY step that she was going to do and he could stop her and ask questions throughout the process. She explained EVERY step and my son asked her A LOT of questions. She was the epitome of patience. I just sat and watched this whole process unfold. She got my son to relax and at the end he totally trusted her. We have been fortunate that not only Leslie, but everyone on Team Caswell are truly a great team. I don't understand why Dr. Caswell and her staff have ratings lower than five stars. I have been in awe of the level of customer service her entire office has provided since my first phone call with them. During my initial visit with them, I messed up and scheduled my appointment literally an hour and a half before I was scheduled to be at work. I was so appreciative that they were all so attentive to the time and made sure I was out with enough time to get to work. Andrea was excellent in explaining all of my options, answered any questions I had, and made sure I knew what to expect with my upcoming visits. You can really tell that everyone here takes pride in what they do. It actually took a little longer to do the scan for my teeth because the hygienist wanted to re-do a few spots to make sure they were perfect and would provide me with a well fitting mold. I am so happy I was referred here and have confidence in their ability to help me get my teeth to where I want them to be. I wish I would have come here sooner.. you know, when I was still a minor and my parents were willing to pay for my braces. *sigh read more

I don't know why people think she is recommending invisalign to make more money. I did have to get my teeth redone by another Orthodontist, Dr. Wendell Hoshino. I had to go through the entire process all over again, but this experience was way different. Dr. Hoshino is very professional and honest. I wanted to go with Invisalign this time around since I'm an adult now, not a high school student like the last time I had braces (15 years ago). But he was honest with me and recommended traditional metal brace because they were more effective for fixing the specific problems that I had. This is when I knew he had my best interest at heart & was not trying to milk more money out of me. He did all of my monthly adjustments himself. While he did the adjustments, he always explained to me why he was doing what he was doing, which I really liked. Dr. Caswell & her staff never explained anything. They would let you pick band colors, did the adjustments, and you were out the door. My two orthodontic experiences were like night & day. Coming from a person who had to go through the experience twice, take my advice! Don't go to Kimi Caswell!!! read more

This review may be a bit premature but I had a great first visit experience and you have to give credit where credit is due. The staff was amazingly friendly. They give the kind of customer service that's really hard to come by nowadays. They know that the minute they tell you how much their orthodontic treatment is going to cost you, you are likely to walk out the door. So they butter you up, make you fall in love with them and when you think your love story will have a happy ending they hit you with that 6K dollar sticker price in exchange for that perfectly straight white Colgate smile you've always dreamed of. It is then you realize that your happy ending will not come without sacrifice. By this time you've already fallen in love with the doctor, the staff and your dream smile. It becomes almost impossible to turn it all down. I say again great strategy! Bottom line is 5k- 6k is the going price for Invisalign so is not like the deal gets any better than this. I was a dental assistant many years ago and I know that as unreasonable as this price may sound, they are actually realistic when it comes to orthodontic cosmetic dentistry. I can appreciate the friendly staff that makes me a little better about spending so much money on my teeth. They're office in Honolulu on Ward St. is new, very clean and totally hip! They have two other locations but the one on Ward is by far the best. Dr. Caswell was friendly and didn't attempt to sell me on one type of braces over the other. She talked to me strictly about the treatment plan. I had traditional braces when I was a teenager but lost my retainers at some point so my teeth have shifted quite a bit. She understood my concerns about the treatment and explained the course of action for each of those concerns. Overall my visit was pleasant due to the high level of customer service I received.
