I have to mention $3.50 for jumbo eggs that are all double yolks the last time I purchased them. Unreal. So excited to hear you're opening another store in Nearby Dublin. Your seafood, meat and deli department ARE top shelf and all offerings are scrumptious. Forgive me and so sorry to have to voice my misgivings about the hot bar, which is just not up to par, and I have to agree with one other complainant, about your hot bar food offerings. I tried it a couple times and it was just OK. The only good hot bars I've found are at the Buffet places, some of my favorites are GRAND BUFFET Chinese Restaurant AND WONDER FOODS in Warminster, and GOLDEN CORRAL IN Bensalem, PA. In conclusion, I would give SIMPLY FRESH at MCCAFFREY'S an overall 'A.' It's a real treat and special joy to do my boutique grocery shopping at your store. The woman who took my order told me all about them and asked if I wanted to add one to my order. I told her no, but I would definitely be ordering one to go. With that said, here is our experience. My pastrami sandwich was very good. The rye bread was good, but the crust was very hard and I could not bite throught it. My mom did not care for her corned beef sandwich and said the meat had a decent flavor, but was cut too thick. She also could not bite the bread's crust. Our latkes were tasty and you can't go wrong with Dr. Brown's cherry soda! Now, the disappointing part. I ordered take-out, one small chicken matzah ball soup and one potato knish. I ordered with the same woman who raved about their kinish and guess what, she forgot to include the kinish in my bag. She brought the take-out bag to our table and assured me everything was there. I asked if the kinish was there, to which she said, "yes, as is the soup". Drove home over 30 minutes and no kinish. When I called them, the woman who took my order and packed the bag said, "Oh". Yes, she credited my card, but still....I was so looking forward to that kinish. If you're used to NYC deli, this is not it, but it is decent.

Many of the ready to eat offering s are prepared in the stores kitchen by authentic cooks representing the various regions. I am here an average of once a week to supplement any cooking we do at home with fresh made salads, such as their Korean Carrot salad, their seaweed salad, and especially the smoked turkey lunch meat, as I cannot find this type of smoked turkey in any local supermarket. My kids love their puff pastries stuffed with ground chicken or potatoes. These make for a great snack or quick breakfast before school. Out of all the same type stores in our region, and there are plenty of them, Holland tends to be the freshest, make the best food, and offer the highest quality best tasting prepared foods. They are not the cheapest but for me they offer the best value. At times some of the staff can be, let's say, less than pleasant (hence the star off), especially if you don't know what you want or they have a tough time communicating with non Russian speaking patrons. However, I would not be too intimidated to come here if you don't speak Russian. Most of the signs are in English and you can point to what you want and tell them how much (just like a deli in any supermarket). I know I do that at Asian markets where I don't speak the language. As for being too sensitive to some of their personality (again, not often, but I have experienced it too), try not to be too sensitive, you are here for the food, which is well worth it. At those times, just pretend you are in NYC. They have a nice bread section here. Many times the breads are still warm from baking- yum! Many breads get delivered from Brooklyn too, If the whole loaf of bread is not too warm, you can take it to the counter and they will gladly slice it for you. This store has extensive candy, desert, jarred and pickled veggies from around Eastern Europe as well as farmers cheeses and European juices. All in all, please don't be intimidated to come here. If you have a difficult time with the language, ask for one of the managers and have them assist you. You will not regret the quality of foods offered here and you will most likely!

We also love their rice pudding. And, later in the week, the Mennonites bring their pies and cookies. For us, it's an experience shopping here because in addition to their food, their workers are so nice to us. On our most recent trip, Kristen helped us in their deli.. She was very patient when we asked her for samples. Then Kelby quickly got us paper plates. And Sophia was working at their register. All three women were very pleasant. After looking at the review, we decided to try it out. It's a nice venue - it was very quiet and had a relaxed vibe. We had recently gone to Hymie's Deli (Merion Station) and the noise level there was a little deafening. Several of the reviews on Pumpernick's mentioned the Challah French Toast...many quite favorably. We decided to order that and the Veggie Omelette, sharing each. I love Challah French Toast, I make it once a week. I perfected my recipe in college working at a breakfast-lunch restaurant near campus. It all starts with the challah - we had a bakery in Youngstown that made the lightest, fluffiest and tastiest challah. The owner insisted we use only butter in the pan when grilling the French Toast. It wasn't rocket science. Somehow, Pumpernick's missed the mark. It looked very appetizing when the dish arrived, but as soon as I tried to cut a piece, I immediately knew it wasn't 'light and fluffy'. Just the opposite - it was probably the 'heaviest' and dense French Toast I've had. It tasted good - was grilled perfectly - and after a few bites, the texture didn't seem 'so bad', but it was. As I said I make French Toast with challahs (once a week) from Rolings Bakery to Whole Foods to Famous 4th Deli, and it's never near as dense and thick as the French Toast at Pumpernick's. I would guess it's the challah, not the preparation of the French Toast - but I'm not sure. Which brings me to where the challah is from - I asked - it's from Jeff Solomon Inc, a bakery in Elkins Park, that's been in business about 30 years. Enough about the French Toast, let's talk about the Veggie Omelette, which was delicious! I routinely make omelettes, with vegetables, and this omelette was as tasty as any I've made. There were onions, orange peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes, and both my partner and I were surprised at how much flavor the veggies had! The omelette itself was light and fluffy; it was delightful! There were hash brown potatoes served with the omelette which were cooked perfectly - crispy exterior with a tender and great potato taste. There was a cinnamon raisin bagel that also came with the omelette which was very good. We enjoyed our breakfast notwithstanding the Challah French Toast - on our return - I'll try the pancakes.
