Very nice. We were expecting more from the experience given it showed up in our Guide to Route 66, but as a restaurant it was very good. The food was fresh and plentiful in terms of portion size. The staff was welcoming and friendly and our order was filled promptly. But as far as being a Route 66 related spot, it really should not be referenced in the guide. No mention or reference to Route 66 is made anywhere inside or out. They cater more to local customers and that is fine. But if you're like us traveling the Mother Road, definitely go to one of the others mentioned in the guide(s). read more

They have street parking and a parking lot on the side. People usually get a sandwich to-go but they do have a small dining area on the side. You order first and then go to another line to pay for your items. They do have various of sides to go with your sandwich. I got their chicken salad croissant ($14.59) with a egg salad side ($2.99). The chicken salad had a good amount of walnuts in it and the croissant was buttery and flaky. They also do catering for the colleges nearby and they do holiday catering with whole turkeys, hams, and sides for pre-orders. They have a stamp card. Closed Sundays. read more

Oh Wolfe's, I am in love with your tuna melt so I was thrilled to be a participant in a college luncheon this week. What a disappointment. Not sure if you couldn't handle the size of the order, but several people remarked that the bread tasted stale and the meat was flavorless. Perhaps these were slapped together the night before? Some of the sandwiches were missing their side salads as well. I hope our event coordinator chooses better next time because the students deserve a product that is comparable to someone walking in to your store. read more

Crazy expensive. We can't justify the prices for the food, which is good, but we have lots of options for much better prices.

High pricing for just average food. It's the reason they went out of business as a market. No one pays $7 for a $3 pickle jar. They use the same or cling with their deli and when you buy fruit with a sandwich the portion is ridiculously small and extremely high priced. In addition the fruit was less than fresh and their pepperocini's seemed like they have had them for at least 2 days and they were wilted. The owner saying that under $10 is normal. Not so much. A small container of Chips $4.50 Spinach Dip $7.50. Fruit not fresh. He can say they prepare the fruit fresh. Clearly not that day. Another owner making excuses and even with pictures clearly showing the peppers were wrinkled and their fruit was far from fresh as the clerk hap hazardly didn't even try to give full variety of the fruit. Kick ass beer selection! Cute, clean, store with decent prices (for a corner market), but the real winner here is the small but great beer selection. Allagash Black, where have you been all my life? When I see you perched upon a shelf (next to Napa Smith lager, several Belgian beers I've never heard of, and other good microbrews), I realize I'm not in OC anymore. Nice wine selection, too. i'm sooooooooooooo disappointed!!!! my coworker recommended this place. then a software trainer that came from Idaho came and ate lunch here and informed me that it was also good. so it was like hurry up and come eat my food! i made it a lunch date with two other coworkers. we all came in looking at the menu and decided on getting different entrees. then i did what i always do which is ask the staff what is good there. she states "everything is so good here" but her favorite is "the burger". so the three of us ended up getting the burger combo. that was my biggest mistake. wolfte cheese burger $9.50 and a coconut water $1.00. the burger combo came with fries, some fruits, and a small pastry. the burger was seriously lacking a lot of flavor. fries were bland. i didn't like how the fruits included the pastry on top. part of my OCD is that i like these items in their different compartments not all lumped together/touching. so out of the three of us only one liked her burger. however she did add the disclaimer about not having a burger in a very long time. i on the other hand am a huge foodie and burgers is one of my ultimate favorite things to eat. i would have to say i was so disappointed! i love eating mom and pops type of burgers all the way to the gourmet type of stuff and this just tasted like something i can make out of a backyard bbq. except the one i make probably would taste better. if i was to come back it'll probably be to try something else on their menu. however, it would not be anytime soon. staff was nice. it's a cute small quaint place. overall, i'm not impressed by the food therefore my stomach was not satisfied. for outdoor seating it was mainly barstool seating but you're all facing the parking lot. so it's hard to sit and chat if you're with friends. tips: *private parking lot *indoor/outdoor seating. *it's a market but it also has a deli where they can make sandwiches and baked goodies. *the have bottled and fountain drinks. *cash/credit card accepted. *by the door there are condiments, napkins, and utensils that you can grab. *they have daily specials. *the food is made to order. read more

Great small homie market.... If you come here you have to try the Toms Favorite chocolate shake by ( shakeology). The bomb!!!! During the weekends they BBQ outside of the business and cook up ribs, burgers ect. There sandwiches and lunch specials are a great value, they also have meal prep for the health nuts. I was craving a sandwich so I searched for local deli's. Saw that Wolfe's in Claremont had a deli. Went in and was greeted and welcomed into the store. The menu choices are great, but they didn't have a hit grill available (maybe broken??) so only cold sandwiches available. Opted for a toasted sourdough vegetarian sandwich with a side of fruit. My husband had a roast beef sandwich with a side of green pea salad. Both sandwiches made to order. Servings are huge. Sandwiches were good but unfortunately the bread was not too fresh. I waited to try this place several times before leaving a review. And this review applies to all my visits. The Wolfe's Deli Garden Burger is gross because they don't know how to cook it. The outer edge of the burger is always nice and good, somewhat crispy and tasty, but the middle of the burger is always uncooked soggy schlop. Every single time. What causes this? Cooks who cook too fast. Veggie burgers (and all burgers) should be slow-cooked. This enables the middle part of the patty to be properly done. At Wolfe's they do a quick-cook, then they think it's good because it looks fine on the outside. The surface of the patty is cooked, yes. But the inside is lacking. The patty itself is high quality, and so is the lettuce. But this quality is ruined with their inability to properly cook it. read more

Hate to have to leave this review but I feel it's necessary. Stopped in to Wolfe's Market Deli for lunch one afternoon ordered a Beefeater sandwich. got it home and it was pretty big. So me being a light eater I ate half for lunch and half for dinner that's all I needed to eat for the day Next morning a bad case of the squirts and a full day of a mild case of food poisoning. it had to be the beef on the sandwich as I didn't eat anything else all day and the beef really wasn't all that tasty and fresh looking. Usually I'll give a place two tries before I dis them or a write a review. But when a place makes you sick that's a whole different story. It's rare to find independent grocers anymore and even more rare to find one that's as great as Wolfe's is. This store is well run, has friendly staff and exceptional food choices. I highly recommend that you try the sandwiches from the deli counter. I got a tuna sandwich with the amish swiss cheese a few days ago and it was exceptional. The tuna had a hint of apples in it and the cheese really completed the sandwich. Since, then I've been back to buy more of the amish swiss cheese and also to try some of the other sandwiches. I love this place, has been in Claremont forever (was a grocery store) now a deli and the best deli I know of. I get my meal plans here as well, as well as my protein shakes every morning. Customer service is on point here. If you are a regular, they always call you by your name and always ask how you doing, who does that? I can't I can't think of a place that, which is why I love coming here for everything, if I'm having a potluck at work, I come to them, and you can call and place your order as well and almost every Friday they have a bbq going inside which with differ weekly as well as the offer breakfast meals (which are yummy). Gf and I had lunch here today. She got the 1/2 tuna melt and I got grilled border w/chicken and side was red bacon potato salad. Nice customer service and clean kitchen. When I asked what kinda of steak they use. Took the cook some thinking just to tell me is was flat iron. So I got chicken. Lol. Salad was good. Gf was not a fan of the mustard in the salad. Little over powering of the bacon. A bit to much of tuna in the sandwich, felt like eating tuna by the spoonful. The grilled border sandwich was tasty. Could have been on better bread. I currently attend school in Pomona and we have a lot of catered lunches.. Not the best for my waistline but free food! Unfortunately I can never say no to a free lunch, but I really should pass when it's Wolfe's Market. It's usually considered a "fancy lunch" maybe because it's pricier. Every time I've tried it, the sandwich was so plain. I love sandwiches and I just don't know how they always get it wrong.. Sorry even subway has more flavor. But even better yet! Today we had it catered with two choices.. Ham or turkey & provolone. (Apparently the veggie options weren't delivered so those were late). But what do you know.. Most of the sandwiches labeled "turkey and provolone" were missing turkey!!! So I ate bread & veggies yay. Still edible though.. And I do like their pasta (I just remove olives, personal preference). And then you charge me $8.50 for a 'Cobb salad' that is a box of mostly iceberg lettuce and some diced lunchmeat ham, or $6.99 for two chicken legs when I can get a whole chicken at any other grocery store for the same price. I would go to you as my regular grocery store if your prices were even close to comparable to any other grocery store in the area, but they just aren't! I'm sorry! It's not me, it's you! A respectable cheese, wine, vegetable and meat selection is to be found there. I just cannot stand the fact that such a cute little unassuming store is so GODAWFUL expensive. This place is a great little almost "boutique like" market. It's family owned, tiny and quaint. If you are looking for quality ingredients for making a killer dinner to impress this is the spot. Great little market in Claremont... lunch sandwiches are terrific... They have a nice selection of meats and salads, today I had a roast beef sandwich on a roll with a side egg salad... They asked me if I wanted any pickles or peppers on the side, it was then that I asked if I could have a couple of peppadews... never had one, it looks like a bright red unseeded lychee... it was pickled, sweet, and packs a little heat... They also have bar stools where you can sit outside and eat... pretty cool. I also noticed a nice selection of cheeses... (e.g. Stilton, manchego...). This is definitely a five-star place, but it is COSTLY. As in my wallet hurts when I go. Here's why: The deli is an old fashioned style market/butcher, with amazing meats, fish and fowl available. The butchers will cut, grind, carve and slice just the way you ask them to, and the meats are all VERY high quality and delicious. They have some amazing side salads there, and make WONDERFUL sandwiches that can be taken on picnics or wherever the fancy takes you. In the market area, they carry a lot of organic produce and some unusual types, too. Their veggies look so good, my kids and I always stop and gawk in awe of it - really, it's ultra appetizing. Their tomatoes are wonderful and they carry chino corn during the summer that is not only priced well, but tastes like it JUST got plucked. Which, in a sense, it did. The "new" part (ok, yes, I'm a Claremont girl, I can say that the building that is nearly 20 years old in "new" still. Shush. I'm cute!) is a specialty section that carries high end wines, luscious desserts, elegant side dishes and meals, candies and fun and yummy seasonal items. They cater too, which is lovely. I had a friend of mine that worked there and she told us about it - weddings, what-not, all good fun and good to eat. Also, in the summers when Claremont does their Concert in the Park series, they make "Picnic Baskets" to take with you. A bit of history - I used to walk to Wolfe's when I was a little girl - the year of 1976-77 that I lived right down the street. My friends and I would get Popsicles, ice cream bars or candies - I often had butterscotch Rothschild's or these honey candies I forgot the name of. We'd be barefoot and the floor was cool, the air conditioning was on (or it felt that way, I'm honestly not sure!) and we'd pay for our items to sour-faced checkout ladies. ;) Now, they seem to have young, college students working the register, lol! Anyway - I cherish those memories and of course it adds to my review. But that's important, is it not? To review from the heart, not simply the tongue? Of course. Food is part of the soul - it's a mind, body spirit connection! So go get a turkey and roast beef on "squaw" and two delectable side salads. Go and get some great beers from the cooler, or an interesting bottle of wine you've always wanted. Get some organic Turkey for Thanksgiving. But enjoy it while it's here - or before you know it, it'll be as gone as Bentley's Market is. read more

I was referred here by someone at the Claremont Trader Joe's because they don't sell sauerkraut. TJ's told me this place was a corner market with lots of natural, organic food. Yeah, right. Picked up the only sauerkraut they had, loaded with preservatives. They had most of what a normal grocery store would have - produce, dairy, poultry, and a deli inside. But their prices make Whole Foods seem cheap. And the service wasn't horrible, but needs improvement. I hate when people point in a general direction when you're trying to find something, and they're not terribly busy. And everyone seems to be ranting about shopping here because of how they support or don't support Prop 8. What the fuck do you care where a business owner makes their campaign contributions? That's like me saying I won't talk to my neighbors because they have an opposite political view (which they do, and we're best of friends). Grow up other reviewers. read more

Aside from their excellent catering (which we use throughout the year, holidays would NOT be the same without their stuffed artichoke puff pastries and roasted fingerling potatoes!) ... they have delicious, convenient, super fresh food every time I walk into their deli. Today for lunch I had a very flavorful wedge of quiche florentine, some fruit salad, as well as their famous double-tortilla chips and homemade guacamole. NOBODY HAS BETTER GUAC than them. If you go to Wolfe's you MUST try it. It's like $10 for a small pint but it's worth it. Yes, they are a bit more expensive than your average grocery store but what is not to love about a mom-&-pop establishment? Wolfe's, I hope you never have to close your doors. I should start by saying that I know the Wolfe family and grew up in Claremont. Growing up, we did not shop at Wolfe's too much as my family thought it was a bit pricy. As an adult, I started to demand higher quality food and realized how awesome Wolfe's really is. Its small and the selection is somewhat limited, but the products are all high quality and fairly priced. The meat is probably the star of the show, although the produce is excellent too. Two things I have noticed that I love at the Wolfe's meat counter is first the butchers actually know what they are talking about (I know total shock!), and second they trim the excess fat off the prime beef! At $25-$35 per pound, this can make a big difference! I will say that I have purchased prime beef from Whole Foods, Gelsons, Bristol Farms,The Meat House, Wolfe's, etc... Wolfe's is the only shop I have seen that trims the beef so generously. You get more meat for your money at Wolfe's and the quality is every bit as good as those other stores. Also, they tend to cut smaller pieces of prime beef which I prefer (who really needs to eat a 1 lb+ of crazy expensive beef?). Good value, excellent service, and quality products. Its easy to see why they have been a staple in the community for so long. I go there as often as I can. Highly Recommended! read more

Wolfes Market has been around FOREVER. It is a small local market near the Claremont Colleges. They sell specialty items and items sort of what you find at Trader Joe's...but was doing it before Trader Joe's...or Whole Foods, Henry's Market, Fresh and Easy etc. It is a small 'boutique' type setting. There is a 'deli' type area where you can pick pre-made salads and order sandwiches as well as other entree type items. They also cater and we have used them for catering out events. The hors' de vours we had were jumbo-tronic prawns, endive with salmon mouse filling, bruschetta, a gorgeous fruit salad as well as some potato salad made with red potatoes and fresh dill. I have also special orderer lobster tails. They were not cheap...but it was as if I had just stepped off the lobster boat with my fresh catch....very tasty, meaty and fresh......but about $ 50.00 each. All in all, a creative local market with a variety of items. This isn't Costco...so if you are planning a one year olds party...don't get food catered from here...this is for a more sophisticated palate. read more
