    My foster pup Pluto

In Mississippi I fostered a dog who was transported to Wolf Trap. Sadly, the transport van wrecked sending the driver to the ER and losing 5 cats. When I went on the Wolf Trap Facebook page to inquire about my foster pup's health and the status of the lost kitties, I was blocked on Facebook after my comment was deleted. When I emailed Wolf Trap hoping for a better response, I received a nonsensical response allegedly from the veterinarian who owns Wolf Trap. I had never heard of Wolf Trap, but based on this experience, I told the local volunteer that I will not foster animals who are being sent to Wolf Trap. I just hope and pray that Pluto, the little dog whom I fostered and who slept beside me every night, is safe and is adopted by a loving, patient family.

I volunteered as one of their foster parent for their pups. I fell in love with this organization because of their mission for the animals. Dr. B is an amazing person who's making the world a better place not just for animals but for the people. They're very organize in doing their event thanks to all the volunteers and especially to Jenny C. (& her exceptional voice!!! That you'll hear from miles away! Haha love you girl!). I would encourage everyone to support their cause by volunteering, donating or even just sharing them through your social media accounts. Im including pictures of my foster baby here, I fell in love with this little cuddle pup! Wahhhhh i miss her already but I'm very happy she had found her furever home!

Pete (WTAR El Grande) at 8 months and still growing! Love him!!

Our experience with WTAR was amazing! We had friends trying to rescue puppies with other organizations for over 8 months only to be turned down or have the dog placed within another home. We started looking for a rescue puppy in late April 2021 and came across a picture of one puppy in June who we immediately fell in love with. I submitted the meet and greet request on a Tuesday and we drove 90 minutes to meet the puppy on Friday. We immediately fell deeper in love with the adorable puppy and knew immediately he was the perfect fit for our family. The foster parents were very thorough in interviewing us and showed a deep concern and interest in the puppy's well being and potential future home. We shared our previous dog experience and philosophy on pet care and training. We also showed pictures of our home and the property we own and how we had plenty of safe open space for a puppy to play. We expressed our strong interest in adopting the puppy and the foster parents felt we would be a great fit. We were approved later that day and were able to pick up the puppy the following Wednesday. We were thrilled to say the least. And, how often to you get to bring home a 10 week old puppy who is crate trained, potty trained, use to a leash and already knows several basic commands!!! Kim and Jordan were amazing with El Grande (now Pete) and we can't thank them enough for choosing us to be Pete's forever home. He is so loved and has been such a blessing to our family. It is so true what they say - "who rescued who?". We cannot wait to rescue a playmat for Pete and know we will only look to Wolf Trap Animal Rescue to fill that open space in our family. Ask the Community - Wolf Trap Animal Rescue

Can someone tell me what the interview process is like?

Light to none, I suspect in order to maximize revenue. For us they didn't do a house visit, follow up on any references, or ask any follow-up questions related to anything on the form.

She cries every time a cat gets adopted because she becomes so attached, which honestly makes the place even more special. I am also really impressed by how clean the cafe is. I have been to several other cat cafes, and they usually smell at least a little, but this one does not at all. There are plenty of toys to play with the cats, a kitten room, and a quiet room, which I really appreciate. It gives cats with certain personalities a chance to relax away from others when things feel overwhelming. The George Mason volunteers are incredibly thoughtful and kind to the cats, and they even learn every cat's name, even if they are only volunteering for a short time. Most of the cats were rescued from Kuwait and had been placed on kill lists simply for being labeled "ugly" or for having disabilities. I really love that no cat is overlooked here and that everyone is welcome. Even the bathroom has adorable sticky notes reminding you that you are beautiful. Patriot Pawsabilities is definitely my favorite cat cafe, and it is very affordable too. I highly recommend stopping by. They even post monthly activities on Facebook, like yoga or movie nights, which makes it even more fun to visit.

After providing feedback regarding a major communication discrepancy, the dog program manager acted out of spite immediately. During a phone call, Michelle W. (dog program manager) repeatedly talked over me and refused to let me finish. She continuously mispronounced my name despite multiple corrections. Even before I could finish a sentence, her final words were "you can finish but at the end of this phone call, drop off the dog at the shelter" and "I don't need to have a reason. I can ask for the dog back because I can". They attempted to force a well adjusted puppy (one I had fostered for over a month) back into a cold kennel environment as a "power trip" simply because Michelle didn't like receiving a constructive criticism. It was clear she lacked empathy for the dog's stability and was prioritizing her own authority over the animal's well being. The adoption process here is abysmal. At the adoption event, numerous potential adopters who were interested in my foster dog said that the interview process is a joke. The interviewers talked more about themselves than giving the potential family to speak. A lot of them said the interview didn't even last 10minutes. Worst of all, I witnessed firsthand they use a lottery system (that's what everybody calls it at the event). They literally pull a name out of a plastic bag to choose the final family for the dog. Lastly, I find it interesting that Dawn (the executive director) responded to my google review asking to "connect directly". During my call with Michelle, I repeatedly asked for the contact information of a supervisor. Michelle lied and told me there was nobody above and she was the final authority. While the rescue claims their decision to pull the dog was for "safety" that concern only appeared AFTER I voiced my frustrations with their non existent communication which resulted me and my foster dog to stay at the vet for over 4hours. Was the "safety" they were worried about actually the safety of their own egos? As a rescue using an animal's placement as a tool for retaliation against a foster is very very disturbing and unacceptable. This organization is not what they market themselves to be. They claim to appreciate their fosters, but their actions prove they view them as disposable and animals as leverage. If you want to support a rescue that values animal welfare and basic human decency, this is not the right place. I would stay far away from this one.

I cannot recommend this agency under any circumstances. My experience with this rescue was…read moreextremely disappointing, distressing, and frankly unacceptable. They have absolutely broken my heart and I was already going through hell. I was actively fostering a dog (Charcoal) and had clearly communicated my intent to adopt him. I coordinated with staff regarding timing and transportation for adoption events and explained that I was recovering from serious injuries following a semi-truck accident. Despite this, the organization removed the dog from my care under the understanding that he would be taken for a neuter appointment and temporary holding. Instead, he was placed at an adoption event the very next day and adopted out--without any notification to me. I had to physically come in to find out he was gone. When I was directed to call for clarification, both Dawn and Michelle laughed on the phone when I asked about the situation. During that same conversation, after I explained my accident, Dawn referred to it as a "terrific" situation before correcting herself and dismissively stating that "life just happens." I was also told they did not "owe me any communication," despite the fact that I had expressed clear intent to adopt and had complied with what was asked of me. This reflects a severe lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic human respect. Fosters invest time, energy, and care into these animals. To remove a dog from a foster home, adopt him out immediately, and then respond with laughter and dismissal when asked for clarity is completely unacceptable. This agency's behavior shows no regard for the wellbeing of their fosters, adopters, or even the animals themselves. Treating a 22-year-old injured student in this manner--while she is actively trying to adopt and provide a stable home--is beyond inappropriate. Do not trust this organization with your time, your money, or your care.

The event was well attended so I recommend arriving early and checking in with a volunteer (green tent) so you get instructions for navigating, selecting, and adopting. You want to be first on the list to adopt your dream pet. Due to the great turnout, and the number of foster parents there with the dogs, I couldn't find the dog I originally arrived to adopt. Keep an eye on the LDAR website for the most up to date list of dogs and cats. I found out the day before the event that another wonderful pup had be transferred to VA, and so I inquired about him as soon as I arrived, which gave me priority. The whole adoption process took about four (4) hours - about half of that was due to shopping for my new bestie. The lines can get extremely long during adoption events because the store is open to the public and a hundred or so adoption guests the day I visited. There was a small wait (30 minutes) to have my application reviewed, and for the pre-interview. Then about 30 minutes before I found out I was approved to adopt the puppy. There's another wait to go through adoption counseling (30 minutes - where you should shop for appropriate items such as a martingale collar, leash, name tag) and the counseling took about 30 minutes (I had questions). The process was seamless and LDAR has been great about following up with me since the adoption. I also received a number of online resources that helped me acclimate my new little guy, and house train him within a week! The volunteers are transparent about the fine print, so it's important to know what you are responsible for. LDAR, thus you, might not have all the details on the pet's health and temperament. No take backs! With that said, an adopter will be on the hook for vet bills to ensure the safety of the animal. After our first vet visit, a few days after adoption, I did learn that my pup had a few things we needed to take care of, but this comes with pet ownership. I would recommend LDAR to anyone who is looking to adopt a pet. Visit an event and ask questions to see what it's like.

My husband and I both work full time but from home 1-2 days a week, we own our house and have a fenced in yard. Last year, we attempted to adopt a dog from them, which entailed a level of paperwork and in-person interviews that rivaled a job application. We showed up to a pet store to meet the potential dog at the specified time but they basically booked a whole bunch of people for that same time, so about a dozen of us were meeting the dog together in a sort of awkward group interview. The dog was about an hour late arriving and seemed stressed out by all the people. After, we waited as they individually interviewed us one by one. It took half a day and we didn't end up getting the dog we applied for. It was a waste of time for us, the other families, and certainly the dogs, who looked pretty stressed out meeting a huge group of people for the first time. Disheartened, we asked around and found another organization that rescues dogs from kill shelters in the south (Pet Rescue Alliance) and brought home our wonderful beagle mix same day. He's the sweetest dog and the joy of my life.
