Instead, we adopted a wee girl, Sandra, who was just over three months old.....We were allowed to "introduce" our German Shepherd (both a "mix" and a "rescue") to "Sandra" and the lady who was assisting us was patient and helpful to us, as the two dogs were introduced. Some folks don't seem to know that dogs may react positively or negatively when first introduced......it takes a bit of time to do it properly. We are pleased to say that In only a week, "Sandra", who is now "Jo-Jo" has adapted very well to our home and has become great friends and playmates with "Hailie", the German Shepherd. They have volunteer opportunities to walk dogs, take them on dogventures, or host them over night! I had organized a group of 12 volunteers to become certified in taking these pups out on a dogventure. These dogventures provide the pups opportunities to explore life beyond the cage. We went hiking with two dogs at Scott's Run and and another pup at Difficult Run. One of the dogs we had taking hiking was adopted one week later! I highly recommend checking out their dogventure program! I am so glad that I found this. It's a great way for both me and the dog to relax and enjoy nature.

If I could give a negative star I would…read more I have fostered multiple dogs back to back for this shelter but my last experience revealed a DISTURBING lack of professionalism and humanity. After providing feedback regarding a major communication discrepancy, the dog program manager acted out of spite immediately. During a phone call, Michelle W. (dog program manager) repeatedly talked over me and refused to let me finish. She continuously mispronounced my name despite multiple corrections. Even before I could finish a sentence, her final words were "you can finish but at the end of this phone call, drop off the dog at the shelter" and "I don't need to have a reason. I can ask for the dog back because I can". They attempted to force a well adjusted puppy (one I had fostered for over a month) back into a cold kennel environment as a "power trip" simply because Michelle didn't like receiving a constructive criticism. It was clear she lacked empathy for the dog's stability and was prioritizing her own authority over the animal's well being. The adoption process here is abysmal. At the adoption event, numerous potential adopters who were interested in my foster dog said that the interview process is a joke. The interviewers talked more about themselves than giving the potential family to speak. A lot of them said the interview didn't even last 10minutes. Worst of all, I witnessed firsthand they use a lottery system (that's what everybody calls it at the event). They literally pull a name out of a plastic bag to choose the final family for the dog. Lastly, I find it interesting that Dawn (the executive director) responded to my google review asking to "connect directly". During my call with Michelle, I repeatedly asked for the contact information of a supervisor. Michelle lied and told me there was nobody above and she was the final authority. While the rescue claims their decision to pull the dog was for "safety" that concern only appeared AFTER I voiced my frustrations with their non existent communication which resulted me and my foster dog to stay at the vet for over 4hours. Was the "safety" they were worried about actually the safety of their own egos? As a rescue using an animal's placement as a tool for retaliation against a foster is very very disturbing and unacceptable. This organization is not what they market themselves to be. They claim to appreciate their fosters, but their actions prove they view them as disposable and animals as leverage. If you want to support a rescue that values animal welfare and basic human decency, this is not the right place. I would stay far away from this one.

After I had made an appointment for boarding for 9 days (he'd be in a little room with a window to the outside) I decided to look for a sitter. I do not feel comfortable hiring any one of the (seems like) hundreds of teens or young adults that gig as a pet sitter; I was looking for a company that has experience and a good reputation. I thought the name of the company was odd, but I sent an email to the owner and she responded instantly and when I told her about my cat's issues she said she had the perfect "cat whisperer" for me. Done Deal! They came over for a meet and greet, we agreed to the terms and that was it! I left written instructions; the cat sitter checked in with me to confirm the start date. Every day I got a report (sometimes twice a day) and a report about what my little "angel" was up to. It was comforting to be so far away knowing he was being well cared for, personality and all. Best part, upon my return, everything was neat and clean- even in the litter room, so no messes for me to recover from. Thanks MMDP for helping me with dear George. I'll be calling on your services anytime I need a sitter for the precious little guy. Also of note, this company doesn't put you through an interrogation just to get an appointment, you don't need codes and lockboxes, and the prices were very reasonable. My relationship with Wolftrap began at college when my sorority would volunteer for their puppy shipment days. It was like a conveyor belt of puppy services one of us would hold a puppy while they got wiped down, flea and tick protection was applied to their coat, and then the vet Dr. Amber Burton would give them their necessary vaccines before they went to their foster homes. Basically this rescue does the Lords work, no exaggeration! They are a nonprofit based out of Vienna Virginia and they bring truck is full of puppies and kittens that they save from kill shelters in Louisiana. In college, I fostered a kitten and now as an adult with my own home I took on fostering two puppy littermates last week!! Christmas and donkey have been such a blessing they are precious angel souls. This rescue makes the process easy. First you go online and you apply to be a Foster, then you are scheduled to have a phone call with a foster team member to ensure you understand the process and responsibility. Based on that you can sign up for available pup shipments! Shipments are usually available on a biweekly basis. The foster period lasts three weeks in which during the time you will take care of them and provide them basic training plenty of love and hopefully find their perfect FUR-ever home and match them up with the best family to suit thier individual personalities. You also go online to fill out adoption forms! I picked up the puppies the day they came in transported them to my home gave them a quick bath since they had just come from the Place That Shall Not Be Named, fed them, provided them with puppy pads and multiple toys that the rescue provided me. They have since been dropped off this morning to get neutered free of cost to the foster or to the family. I chose to take in 2 siblings but you can also chose to just take in 1 pup or kitten. As A foster- my responsibility is to escort these puppies to the meet and greets with potential new owners - the rescue handles the coordination between people who applied online and email me directly phone number so that I can contact them. PLEASE sign up if you are able and love animals and want to make a difference. Often they are in NEED of fosters to be able to continue their good deeds!! (If you have a shepherd you know what I'm talking about). Mia had been abused and then fostered by five to six different foster families. I was her last one. She was the sweetest dog to me but if you were a stranger, you had to earn her trust--and it wasn't easy. She was beaten by a man so, it was twice as hard if you were a man. I was also told by her last foster that she got in the garbage, chewed up everything and was in general very destructive. The lady they sent was awesome. She even coordinated with my friend (who Mia trusted) to have someone there she (Mia) knew until Mia got used to their employee. I believe her name was Sephira. Well, Sephira and Mia became best friends and after about a two week get-to-know-each-other period--everything went very smoothly. My dog was let out in the middle of the day for a short walk and then loved up and played with, and watered. Never came home to any accidents and even got a poop report! Lol. I just rescued another German shepherd but have moved out of their service area. I just wanted everyone to know what wonderful people they have working there. And, Mia lived a very long, happy life. She passed in 2018 at 16 years old.
