She suggested I…read moreapply online before the adoption event, and I'm glad I started the process before arriving so that I was pre-registered, so to speak. The event was well attended so I recommend arriving early and checking in with a volunteer (green tent) so you get instructions for navigating, selecting, and adopting. You want to be first on the list to adopt your dream pet. Due to the great turnout, and the number of foster parents there with the dogs, I couldn't find the dog I originally arrived to adopt. Keep an eye on the LDAR website for the most up to date list of dogs and cats. I found out the day before the event that another wonderful pup had be transferred to VA, and so I inquired about him as soon as I arrived, which gave me priority. The whole adoption process took about four (4) hours - about half of that was due to shopping for my new bestie. The lines can get extremely long during adoption events because the store is open to the public and a hundred or so adoption guests the day I visited. There was a small wait (30 minutes) to have my application reviewed, and for the pre-interview. Then about 30 minutes before I found out I was approved to adopt the puppy. There's another wait to go through adoption counseling (30 minutes - where you should shop for appropriate items such as a martingale collar, leash, name tag) and the counseling took about 30 minutes (I had questions). The process was seamless and LDAR has been great about following up with me since the adoption. I also received a number of online resources that helped me acclimate my new little guy, and house train him within a week! The volunteers are transparent about the fine print, so it's important to know what you are responsible for. LDAR, thus you, might not have all the details on the pet's health and temperament. No take backs! With that said, an adopter will be on the hook for vet bills to ensure the safety of the animal. After our first vet visit, a few days after adoption, I did learn that my pup had a few things we needed to take care of, but this comes with pet ownership. I would recommend LDAR to anyone who is looking to adopt a pet. Visit an event and ask questions to see what it's like.

PAW seems to really care about the dogs in their care, they have many volunteers who make sure that each dog has its needs met. They do seem very selective in their applicants, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on who you ask, but worth mentioning for what it is. I recommend adopting a dog from them if you meet their criteria for that dog, you can adopt knowing the dog was well cared for, and donate knowing your money is going to an organization that gives its all for said dogs.

She was here early this morning to pick her up and will have her back to me in the afternoon giving me the day to rest. She will do the same tomorrow. Even though we weren't scheduled for these days, she was very willing to help me out. I worked with Cacie to go over the screening items, as well as what I was hoping for, and she immediately had a pair of cats come into mind. It was a bonded pair, with one 2 year old cat and one 5 month old kitten. She immediately set up a time for me to meet the kitties at the fosters home, and I absolutely fell in live with them when I met them. As this was my first time having pets of my own, I was nervous and unsure, so I loved that they offer a 30 day foster-to-adopt period. Cacie also made it clear to me that they were dedicated to ensuring it was a right fit all around and that there was flexibility. Not long after adopting, we ran into a couple medical issues (though I believe Tails High did everything in their power to ensure both kitties were healthy and okay for adoption, and they were as transparent as possible with me). When I shared a couple concerns about the issues the cats were having, Cacie was very responsive and really took the time to help, despite the fact that she and Tails High are overloaded. I wound up becoming a long-term medical foster for the older cat due to some complications and I fully adopted the kitten. Cacie was extremely patient and helpful and made sure that I had as much information as possible to make informed decisions. It is so clear how much she cares about not only the animals but the fosters and adopters, as well. And I only continue to reference her because that is mostly who I have interacted with, but I'm sure this is a blanket statement for the entire rescue. They do really phenomenal work. I am so happy that I took the plunge with these kitties, as I couldn't have asked for a better fit. I highly recommend Tails High to anyone who is looking to foster or adopt a cat!

Can't believe I haven't written a review yet about this amazing place!…read more Let's go back to the beginning *record scratch* I've always loved cats since I can remember and I also grew up with them (as my mom was a cat lady.) I felt like it was finally time for me to adopt my very own fur baby. I looked up some adoption events in the area and I noticed there was one that day at the Petco in Columbia Heights. I rushed down there in excitement, hoping to find my future cat child. There were three cats left, one had just been adopted and was on their way to their furrever home. There was one pretty tabby and a very shy black cat. I was so focused on this black cat named Starling. He just looked so scared and uncomfortable (who would blame him!) I started talking to one of the volunteers, Eileen (AMAZING woman) and she let me pet Starling. I sat there speaking to him softly and gently petting him. I felt like this cat needed to come home with me and enjoy his very own space. I adopted him right then and there! Eileen was so kind and helpful the entire time. She took me around Petco and helped me shop, she even drove me down the street to my apartment with Starling! For about two weeks, Starling hid under my bed and was pretty scared of everything around him. I gave him space and continued to speak to him softly, reassuring him he was in a good place. He finally broke out of his shell and became the goofiest, cuddliest, most lovable boy. It'll be a year in April since I adopted Starling (now Lil Beefy lol!) and we are inseparable! We are always cuddling or playing and I couldn't imagine life without my furry child! Thank you Tails High! For giving me the chance at adopting such a wonderful boy who makes my life better everyday. Most adoption places are so political and intense about adoptions. They love and care about our pups just as much as we do and are so patient with us, always willing to answer any questions we have (and we have had a lot). They have cameras showing the play areas with a live feed which allows you to check in on your pups throughout the day--which is SO NICE! Oh, and if you need your pup to stay the night, unlike other places, they won't be stuck alone in a crate with no one to keep an eye on them, but rather Two Way has a whole overnight area which is set up more like a home-type environment and they even have someone who stays overnight with them which is just SUCH INCREDIBLE peace of mind. And, if all that weren't awesome enough, they are also incredibly open and accommodating when my ADHD self forgets to book daycare in advance or when our schedule got so hectic and we weren't able to pick them up and they had to unexpectedly stay the night. There was actually an occasion just last week that I think really perfectly highlights the reason they deserve all the stars: Last week I messaged them through the portal and asked if they could take our pup one day even though the day was not able to be booked online (not sure if it was a technical glitch or if they were full already that day) but they said in response "We welcome him with open arms! No apologies one bit." and THAT, it is THAT plus just the love and care they have that makes us loyal members of the Two Way pack. So long as we live anywhere near here we will always bring our pups (current and future) to Two Way anytime we need daycare or overnight care! Bottom line TLDR: THANK YOU Two Way team for being the best care we have ever seen for our pups!!!
