I don't typically leave negative reviews, but in this situation I felt like I had to. Working with Wolde was the worst experience I have ever had with a professional contractor.
In July, Wolde and I came to an agreement for a $17,000 flooring installation at my home. In the agreement, it was stated that every attempt would be made to have the installation complete prior to August 5th. The initial installation date got pushed back to the last week of August due to shipping/manufacturing delays, which I was fine with considering the current Covid situation. It is difficult to get things on time. Understandable.
The installation took about 3 full days. I wasn't thrilled with the installers, a group of 6 guys, not one of whom could have been over the age of 19 nor spoke a word of English. They were pretty disrespectful of my property, at one point they were dumping this concrete-like mix on the siding of my house. If I had not noticed it almost at once, it would have hardened and the siding would have required replacement. At this point, I was a little disappointed with the whole experience. Still, I understood that good help is hard to find and utilizing less experienced installers is in part how Wolde keeps their pricing competitive.
After the installation is when the real problems started. The day after the installation was completed, I noticed the installers had cracked a few of the tiles on my fireplace hearth. I had taken thorough, dated videos of the entire home before and after the installation, so it was clear when the tiles had been cracked. I informed Wolde, and they said they would repair the tiles. Then, Wolde went completely off the grid. Over the course of two months, I sent numerous email to both the installation coordinator and the general manager asking when we could finish up the job. Not a word in response. I also called and left voicemails with both of them on multiple occasions, not a word in response. Keep in mind this job was originally supposed to be completed in early August. Here we are in late October and not only is the job not completed, I haven't even heard from them in two months.
At this point, I was furious. Calls/voicemails/emails did not seem to work, so I sent a formal demand letter via regular post return-receipt-requested. The morning the letter got there, I receive a call from Wolde. Amazingly, the replacement tiles had just gotten to Wolde that morning. What a coincidence.
They end up coming out and doing a partial repair of the fireplace with tiles that clearly do not match (see photos, the original tiles on the wall are clearly white and the new tiles they put on the floor are gray). I inform them the tiles do not match and they ignore the emails and send me a "final invoice". At this point, we are getting into early November, and I am fed up with Wolde. I decide to pay them and get someone else to come repair the fireplace properly.
When I review the final invoice, I notice an additional $650 worth of charges that were not present in the original contract. The contract was crystal clear, "firm fixed price contract and not subject to changes". I inform them of this, and they treat it as an oversight. I think these junk fees were added to cover the cost of partially repairing the fireplace their installers damaged.
In summary, I spent $17,000 with Wolde on a flooring installation that was supposed to be completed in August. The job was not completed until November, and I still had to have another flooring contractor come out and properly repair the damages caused by Wolde's installers.
Bottom line, don't use Wolde Flooring. If you do, ensure the contract states it is FIXED PRICE, or else they will tack on junk charges to you as well. read more
