This was a visit borne of desperation and ordinarily I wouldn't think of this place…read more We were fed up with Christmas turkey, ham, roast beef, pork & chestnut stuffing and salmon. We couldn't face another mince pie or slice of pudding either. Talk about first world problems. It was a cold New Year's Day and I wasn't even sure I'd find a place that was open. The two places I wanted to be open weren't - Soi 9 Thai & Dragon Express - so I ended up here as it was one of two Chinese take outs with lights on. Spice of India on the same almost empty street was open but if you read my review on it you'll see why I opted for Chinese. I didn't know what I wanted to eat but my wife had decided on salted chilli chicken, so when I looked at the menu it had a meal for two deal at £13.80 that included salted chilli chicken so I ordered it. The deal was this chicken meal, chicken fried rice, chicken curry, a tub of curry sauce, cheap and unpleasant, pre prepared prawn crackers and a small portion of chips. The food was a bit better than ok but I couldn't say it was really good so a border line three stars. And while it was ok it's certainly not on my return visit list.

It's just borderline 2 stars for this Camlough village place, but this review is in the context of…read morewhat's dished up in Chinese takeaways in my locality - and as I consistently report it's mostly overpriced rubbish everywhere. We rang ahead. We placed an order for four meals on a Christmas Eve evening - sort of a family tradition to get takeaway food as we prepare all the food for Christmas Day and St Stephen's day. We were told to hold off 30 minutes when our order was taken. This turned out to only suit the takeaway and at the expense of the quality of the already below average food - so sod the customer - only taking our money mattered. The bill for four main dishes - 2 chicken & fried rice, a 4 in 1 and one prawn with noodles was just over £33 and not nearly worth it. It was clear that our food sat cooked and lidded for quite a while. I ordered king prawn salted chilli with noodles. The (10) prawns were fairly ok and had we only waited 10 minutes to collect they likely would have been fairly good but battered prawns don't benefit from sitting in lidded tinfoil for 20 minutes. I also tried a piece of the salted chilli chicken which was really awful. Both of the dishes I tried were far too liberally salted, with no discernible fresh red chilli in sight and to make matters still worse my noodle side was cold. There's not one Chinese takeaway in Newry that serves up good takeaway food and we've now tried plenty. They aren't shy in always charging cash, almost always refusing credit cards and always pitching at top prices. I used to go to the Mayflower takeaway but it's now really rubbish quality so I've abandoned Newry based Chinese and mostly go to Oriental Red in Warrenpoint, which is consistently good but it wasn't practical to go Christmas Eve. I'm unlikely to return to Happy Villa again as it's just another well below average overpriced takeaway to join the list of well below average Chinese takeaways in Newry and surrounding area so if you have an air fryer try M&S factory takeaway mains and boil your own rice. I simply can't believe I'm recommending factory made food over 'fresh' restaurant made but call it desperation.

Just finished a takeaway from here. Service was fast and reasonable priced. Rice was fluffy and…read moredelicious, the noodles had a good flavour. The sausages were cooked very well as were the chicken balls and the chip were probably the best part. Would eat from here again.
