It's barely a three star sadly but only because of the thickness of the fish batter. The batter made the fish an unpleasant eat when it was simple to make it enjoyable.
I got fish bites (4) for £4.50 to try, and shared the portion with my wife. We sat outside the takeaway in the car so trying the food almost immediately and it was piping hot.
Two of the four pieces had a decent piece of cod, but two were very thin on the fish portion. I'd rather have 2/3 pieces with thicker fillet than 4 pieces of which two are at least 70% batter. I want fish not batter.
A few chips were included, and the chips are great quality, and properly and well cooked. We ate one piece of fish each.
My wife ate one piece of the fish but declined a second. It's really disappointing and annoying as anyone in this business must know that fish batter should always be crisp, light and kept thin - it shouldn't be difficult to achieve this.
I peeled the batter away and the dog got it - unlike humans, dogs just don't live long enough to develop serious heart disease.
The owner should go to John Dory, Lisburn and Fiships, Camlough to check out the competition as these places get it right on fish batter at the same money.
The service was friendly and if you want to check it out it's in the centre of the village of Markethill just a few minutes off the main carriageway between Newry and Armagh; so I'd imagine the bulk of their trade is local.
I certainly won't return but I hope this review helps customers and the owner. read more
