Look, I know Wok To Walk is essentially Chinese fast food. And I've been to locations both here in Amsterdam and New York. But come on, I gotta pay tribute to the guys who managed to create Chinese fast food in the Netherlands and export it all around the world. for my last night in amsterdam...went looking for comfort food and stumbled upon this place called Wok to Walk! what really captured our attention was the colorful takeout boxes - which are the traditional ones you'd see in north america. small place but the smell coming out and floating out to the streets was very aromatic and delish! people coming and going and sitting at the outdoor tables carrying the orange boxes with chopsticks looked really appetizing. so we decided..why not try!! people were coming in and out and turnover was high, so its a sign that its a good place with fresh ingredients.....small dining area inside which was perfect for us. first step is to select your kind of carb but one price for any choice....rice? udon? egg noodles? brown rice? all comes stir fried with egg and vegs...next is the protein ( beef , chicken, pork, tofu, shrimp, bom choy? etc..which varies a little in pricing....next is the type of free sauce ( teriyaki, curry, garlic, etc) , then if you want extra garnish..like garlic, onions, etc extra .40....all drinks are 1.95 euros! frankly speaking ...i gave it a 4 coz for a hole in the wall...food came quick, hot , and fresh! after ordering, food came in 5 mins...packed in a box boom! only complaints is..too much sodium via soy sauce. lol! a bit salty but everything was cooked well. noodles were al dente..rice was cooked good! beef and chicken choices were generous and cooked well. you left feeling full and satisfied after a long day of touring and walking. it attracts a lot of locals and travellers from walks of life. so, when in amsterdam and hungry...look for the Wok to Walk sign! lol! happy eating! read more

I was craving Asian food while in Europe, so we decided to check out Wok to Walk. I had actually seen a Wok to Walk while in Madrid, so I guess it's a chain all over Europe! It's like a fast food Mongolian grill. You first choose a base, then an ingredient, and last a sauce (if no additional toppings). I ended up getting the egg noodles with chicken with the garlic and black pepper sauce and sesame on top. It takes awhile between waiting in line to order and getting your food, so be ready for that. Also, the store is quite small with only a few tables. Some others had mentioned that there is a square nearby that you can eat at if you want to take it to go. Very good and reasonably priced. I expected this place to be a very run-of-the-mill type establishment and ended up very impressed. They have five different noodles to choose from and you basically go down the (short) assembly line and pick what you want in your dish. I chose egg noodles, chicken breast, broccoli, fried garlic with sweet teriyaki sauce. They cook everything right in front of you, reverse hibachi steakhouse style (you're at their table). The two ladies behind the counter are fast and efficient, but not overly friendly, which is OK, but I get the feeling that they could become irritable at someone who didn't know what they wanted, so look at the menu outside before you go in and order. Really good asian fast food. The style and concept of this venue is the same as the burger bar/ the butcher etc. But it works. You have a small menu were you can choose the combination of your meal. Noodles or rice as base, beef, chicken, vegetarian, no matter what you want. And then the sauce. Please try the curry coconut sauce. It is so delicous. Not to hot, not to bland. Apparently anything behind a window is off-limits for picture-taking? I had a finger shaken at me when I attempted to take a picture of the expert stir-frying going on in the open kitchen. We had the udon noodles with pork, broccoli, and teryaki sauce. In hindsight, the egg noodles may have worked better as the fast-paced stir fry wasn't enough to heat the thick udon noodles all the way through. There was plenty of pork, but surprisingly little broccoli in comparison. Taste-wise it wasn't bad, and the portion was generous enough to satisfy two of us without putting us into an MSG coma. But I couldn't shake the feeling that I'm probably paying more just for the empowerment of choosing my own ingredients, when a standard dish at a chinese restaurant would be comprised of the same (if not more) ingredients at a lower price. At about 1.5 euros/topping, this can really pile up. I'm leaning more towards a 2.5 but rounding up to account for my lack of knowledge on other Chinese food options in the area. read more

I am a fan of Wok to Walk. In the U.S. "fast food" never really means anything good. Some places even say they are "Quick Service" just so they don't fall under that umbrella. Wok to Walk in Fast Food, Quick Service, or what ever you want to call it. But it is good! I get egg noodles, beef, broccoli, with coriander (cilantro), and the Tokyo sauce. Delicious! It stays hot too. I usually eat about half in the restaurant and take the rest home. Over an hour later and it's still warm. This particular restaurant was on a side street which was surprising to me. It's teeny-tiny, but does the job. Just note that you might want to check if people are in line or waiting for their food. And even though everything is made fresh to order, the lines move very quickly. This particular location does not have seating (to go only), but they are close to Rembrandtplein (aka Rembrandt Square) which has a ton of outdoor tables and chairs. My favorite combination is garlic noodles with chicken and mushrooms. It's the absolute best on a cold, rainy day.
