Look, I'm not really here to eat Dutch fast food. But when Febo is literally right next to my usual hotel, I gotta try it at least once at some point. Plus I hadn't really eaten dinner, so yeah. Got myself a rundvleeskroket since that was the most Dutch looking item available and I always want to try new things. For us English folk, it's a Dutch croquette, specifically a crunchy pastry of creamy ragout, made of fresh bouillon and Dutch beef. It was crunchy and tasty for sure. Super cheap too! Very average but cheaper than MCD Netherlands & other fast food. Fun concept for non Dutch folks. Just pay and grab what you want straight from the windows. Casual and a few seats, most ppl were grabbing it on the go or standing around and eating. The chicken burger tasted much better than the beef which had a strange flavor. The chicken was kind of like a mcchicken from MCD. 4 euros each. Pay a little more and you will probably get a tastier burger from other fast food chains, but this was fun to try during our trip! read more

I knew I wasn't done with Febo. After my snack and my other snack, I was still a little hungry as I walked back to the hotel. Febo to the rescue! There was still at €2 coin in my pocket and so I chose one of the croquettes that was exactly that, though they do accept credit cards. Pretty busy at this late hour but I took up one of the stools and broke into it, let it cool a bit and then ate it. It was perfect and just what I needed to finish off my day. The Febo chain in Amsterdam came highly recommended by several of my pot-loving friends. It's basically a big room full of self-service vending machines that stock hot food. Most of it is stoner approved (think fried cheese, fried meat pies, and other questionable snacks that you'd most likely never eat while sober). This location is smack in the middle of Amsterdam's Red Light district so the people watching alone is one of the best things about this place. The clientele grows increasingly more interesting the later in the evening you visit. There are cooks that work behind the scenes but since there are glass windows separating you from the food, you can peer through to the other side, which is remarkably quite fun. IMPORTANT: Machines take exact change only and do not return any overages! Step 1: count up your euro coin change and stick it in the machine for a snack (in my case it was a piece of fried cheese). Step 2: open up a little window and Step 3: out pops your snack. I was so bummed because my snack was mislabeled and instead of tasty fried Gouda, it was a gross creamy meat snack that's super popular in Amsterdam (ewww)! I'm glad I'm not a vegetarian because that would've been a doubly unpleasant surprise. I still like the concept but I felt super gross after taking only one bite, and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who hasn't been heavily partaking in the city's many coffeeshops beforehand. read more

These are throughout the city. Basically quick snack places you throw 2-4e into the machine and get out a snack. Or, you can order from the counter other stuff. It's very easy and convenient. With convenience comes a cost. Often it's very crowded and dirty. But it's still something you should try at least once. I love this chain of vending machine restaurants!!! Great way to get rid of all your change. Cheap, hot and fresh croquettes with all different fillings, burgers, sausages, etc each in their own vending machine style compartment. Put your change in the slot of the food you want and press the button, the little window will open up for you to grab your food. You can also order fries and drinks at the counter. I always end up getting 2 or 3 things and an order of fries with fritesaus. So good!!! You have to visit here and experience the vending machine-ness! They have a change machine off to the side, and most of the entrees are available in the vending area. If you want any fries or other items that aren't already prepared, you can go to the counter. The food is interesting, the burger is more like a sausage than burger meat. Lots of croquettes and other fried foods. Perfect for tourists who are imbibing and taking in the sights and culture of Amsterdam. These Dutch people know how to market. read more

I'm a lover of deep fried and breaded foods so I was a sucker for this place. I tried a few of the croquettes: beef and veal and a chicken beef sausage stick. All was pretty good. For 1.60 euro, it's cheap and comforting. It's also kind of fun sticking coins into a machine to pull out a croquette. I really loved the concept. Service here could have been better though, particularly with getting change. The machines only take exact change and their change machine was out of order. The girl at the front was able to change 5 euro bills into smaller change but not enough of it was exact for the machines. Overall, fun experience and would do again. read more

Sad to say this was the former location of a business called Soup Kitchen. It is now the new, bright and clean location of a Febo. The first time I ever tried Febo, I didn't like it, now I am hooked. The first thing I have to introduce to anyone not familiar with Febo is that these are vending machines for fried foods and burgers. You put coins in to pull a door open and pull out your snack. One of the items in the Febo vending machines is a fries veal or beef mush, it's like mash potatoes in texture, mushy. The taste of it isn't bad at all but different, it's no mash potatoes. That's the reason I didn't like it the first time. It might be an acquired texture of food. But the outside it a very crisp shell. And when the lady or gentleman making the food puts the food fresh behind the door, it is a freaking awesome fried food. What you get out of these Febo machines are: think mozzarella sticks and burgers. The burgers are soft and of decent quality for 2.20euros. The fried foods are 1.60euros. That's a great snack deal in my opinion and three hits the spot just right, for me anyway. The Febos are manned behind a counter that serve fries and some location fried chicken sandwiches. Tip 1: Febo vending machines do not give change, I put in a 2.00euro coin for a 1.60euro stick of Rundvleeskroket or Kalfsvleeskroket and never got back my change, lesson learned the hard way. There are coin machines for change before inserting coins, duh Andrew. Tip 2: Once you open a door take it and run. I opened the door for one and the lady slid a fresh one on top of the shelf on the one I chose, I close the door without taking my snack to get the one she put in. My lost :[ No biggie, it's just a 1.60euro snack, I'm just saying when the door opens take your snack because when it closes it locks until you put another 1.60 or 2.20 in, duh Andrew. Late night drunk food where you fumble around for coins to insert and out comes the food you were staring at for the past 5 mins but couldn't touch because it was behind a glass window. The food is prefect to help with your drunkenness and the concept is much different than occasional fast food. So many choices to choose from.
