Led by Mr. Dwayne, the tour is an hour and a half learning about the Burton Street Community, a historically Black neighborhood in West Asheville and the victim of gentrification and highway expansions. Hood Huggers was created to serve as a champion for the 1912 neighborhood and its long-time residents. My wife, eight-year-old daughter, and I booked a Sunday morning tour. Since it was just us, he gave us the option to walk it or take his little shuttle. Mr. Dwayne gave us the background on the area before Mr. Cotton, the grandson of the man who founded the neighborhood, joined us with a book of photos. After a drive, we ended at the Peace Gardens and Market, a sacred space for the community.

He showed us a lot of different areas that were Historical for the African-American community. He also shared a lot of historical information of the schools and colleges in the area that were very prominent years ago. I will definitely recommend this tour hands down to give you more of a historical African-American background of the city based on the money that we spent I feel that it was a great value for the tour that we received the service was outstanding by our tour guide and hands-down. The Collider is a nonprofit organization , an innovation center that is focused on cataloging market driven climate solutions . Their headquarter is in "climate city" Asheville. They believe that climate solutions must be founded in the best possible science and the language of everyday business. It exists to bring together a diverse expertise to stimulate new business. The Collider is in the center of downtown on the fourth floor of the Wells Fargo Bank. In addition to a cowork space they also have an event space. That's where I come in. This is where they offer movies, talks , workshops and more. We watched the Movie " the Human Element " there an environmental movie from James Balog a National Geographic Photographer ( it was great, eye opening and scary , thought provoking) . I also visited there at a talk about the behavior of cats. This is what I like about it, the diversity and community. So far I always came out of the elevator to a little donation table where you can also sign up for the news letter and then free Beer , water and snacks. We recycled about 125$ worth of clothes between the 4 of us and everyone left happy. We all left with lots of clothes and smiles. All the shirts were 4.95 I think and I got 4 or 5 great ones and a Keurig pod holder that is on my coffee bar. Our family goes to Goodwill on most of our towns we visit and this was no exception other than we often visit Asheville and will be back here soon!
