One of my 2020 goals was to mitigate my environmental impact via fast fashion. Slow fashion brands, are amazing as they are can be quite expensive (understandably) so I turn to thrifting quite a bit. Reciprocity not only has great items, the owner, Tony, is one of the kindest people I've ever met. I went in with a friend who was visiting and she made us feel so welcome. I suddenly found myself telling her literally everything about my life and the health issues I was going through and she made me feel so comfortable. Anyone else would've probably been like, ok weirdo, but tony was so nice about everything it made me feel like I could get through all of this. My favorite West Asheville boutique! Shopping here is like walking into your best friend's closet. The owner is so wonderful and knows her regulars by name and cares about their lives. I've gotten lots of store credit by trading in clothes that I no longer wear. Great selection of brands, from Anthro to Free People and extremely fair prices, too. Great location, too. My 11yo daughter and I came to Asheville for a girl's weekend of Biltmore and thrifting, and THIS PLACE MADE OUR WEEKEND COMPLETE. What a find! The owner was fantastic. She had great instincts about reading our style and sizes, and found some perfect things for us. They definitely had some cute items and the staff was very friendly! My biggest issue and what ultimately led me to not purchase anything was they have several clothing items from target which they are selling for more than the item sells brand new. For example there is a tank top in there I purchased a new days ago for $12 from target and they are reselling one in a different color for $20. Just be careful and know your prices when shopping! read more

Very cute little store. When you think about it, it's basically a high end thrift store and you're paying $25 for a used top.... hmmm. Granted though, that used top was probably closer to $75 (maybe) so you should be knowledgeable about what brands are worth what so you're not paying $25 for H&M or Gap. Yes, the owner does tell you she only offers store credit because she lost so much cash last year by paying people - but it didn't bug me. She was friendly and it was a natural part of the conversation. I brought in at least 10 items and she only chose 1, so if you're looking to sell then find out what exactly they are looking for (my visit it was high waisted jeans and velvet tops) so you can narrow down your items. I was specifically searching for a certain type of dress or skirt which she didn't have. But I did find a cute top - the jeans she offered $15 store credit and the top was $18... she gave me an even trade for it, which was really kind. My favorite consignment store anywhere. Not the biggest one, but the quality of the selection more than makes up for that. I always walk out of here with something under 20 dollars that I probably wouldn't even have found at an expensive store - many things are so unique here! I love the shop too, it looks like an awesome little boutique and not at all like most other consignment stores I know. The people who work here are extremely helpful, will help to find clothes in the store, and are just fun to talk to too. The prices seem really fair to me for what you get. read more

I've been in here a handful of times and am always impressed with the customer service. The folks who work here are expert at making you feel welcome but not swamped. I went in with a specific purpose today (a dress for a wedding) and left instead with a gorgeous top hand-picked by the salesperson for me to try on. No regrets! I enjoy that there is a variety of style represented here, too. You can tell they aim to keep good quality pieces rather than to cater to a specific look. read more

Love love love this place!!! It's my favorite thrift store ever. Everyone is so incredibly nice, they are very generous with the credit they give you (compared to other clothing exchange places like buffalo exchange, Plato's closet and clothes mentor), and their selection changes very quickly so you can come back within a week and find various new gems! I just spent the morning in this lovely little gem of a shop, browsing, chatting with the owner, even consigning a few things. Reciprocity, which is a great name, by the way, has something for almost every taste. Their shoe collection is large and varied, with everything from sandals to vintage Frye boots, and in a range of sizes. There are more jeans than I can count, delightful jewelry and bags and tops and dresses galore. I am lucky that I live close enough to walk to this shop, but if I didn't, I would certainly drive over and have a look. You won't be sorry. read more

So let me tell you about my experience with the owner. I walked in and she immediately launched into some spiel about how shes not giving cash out currently because she and her husband gave 60 thousand dollars out in cash and didnt make a profit at all last year. Mind you, I hadn't opened my mouth yet. I hadn't asked for cash I merely walked in to the store. I informed her that I was happy to take store credit, and that I work for my money. She thumbed through my stuff and said she couldn't take anything. No problem, but here was the kicker. I had brand new never worn really cute faux suede green and brown boots. She said and I quote" yes, since their synthetic you know they just dont wear well". Umm...everything in this store is USED! YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT BRAND NEW SHOES DONT WEAR WELL BECAUSE THEY ARENT LEATHER? I used to frequent this shop mostly during the summer for cute dresses and top. I will skip this place during my summer shopping. Hope she makes a profit this year she wont get any of my money read more
