That said, I was not terribly anxious because I had already had such a wonderful, warm, and reassuring intake call with her assistant Sarah, who was kind, patient, and thorough. Even so, I had never met Dr. Sumner before, and with my anxiety being as high as it was, I felt that familiar edge of fear creep in. Within just minutes of speaking with Dr. Sumner, that fear completely melted away. Her presence was calm, grounded, and deeply compassionate, and I immediately felt safe. She took the time to truly listen, not just to my symptoms, but to my story. She gently and clearly explained that the anxiety I was experiencing was a very normal response to the amount of stress I had been under. That alone brought such relief. What truly stood out to me was when she explained how anxiety often feeds on itself, how we become anxious about having anxiety, which only intensifies it. That insight hit home so deeply. I had experienced a difficult bout of anxiety back in 2019, and having it return stirred up so many old, painful memories. Dr. Sumner understood this immediately and addressed it with such wisdom and kindness that I felt seen and understood rather than judged or rushed. She also quickly picked up on the fact that I am very hesitant about medication and strongly prefer natural approaches. Instead of dismissing that, she respected it fully. Learning that Dr. Sumner is also an herbologist spoke straight to my heart. It meant everything to be working with someone who honors both mental health and natural healing. Her approach felt balanced, thoughtful, and deeply humane. By the end of our call, I felt something I had not felt in a long time, peace. I could breathe again. I felt hopeful. I even felt excited about my life moving forward. That shift alone was priceless. Dr. Sumner is thoughtful, caring, gentle, brilliant, and genuinely kind. She has a rare ability to calm, reassure, and empower all at the same time. I'm happy others had good outcomes, but angered that I was apparently treated so differently, despite purchasing the same comprehensive program. $5000+ later, I did not receive a binder of any sort/-only random emails with attachments that weren't even encrypted to protect my PII and PHI. The people at the front desk were friendly enough, but seemingly incompetent to handle basic office transactions. Some of this may have been due to confusing and inconsistent office policies and practices. I paid for the scans, met with their only psychologist on staff to get an interpretation for what they claim to have found and then presented with a list of their supplements to purchase, totaling 100s of dollars. It all seemed quite superficial and generic, but I went along. Then, I was told that the psychiatrist I met with once doesn't do therapy only the initial interpretations and that I'd have to find my own therapist. Mind you, I'd called to confirm that they had all the support I felt I needed in house and they assured me that they had the best. When it came time for me to avail myself, I was told to Google in my area and choose someone. What?!?! I LIVE IN THE AREA WHERE THE CLINIC IS LOCATED!!! I was interested in the EMDR services they allegedly offered and other such therapies they claimed to provide as part of the most comprehensive package they offered, which is what I purchased. Of course, they didn't have those services or any others in house. I was told to Google and randomly select someone. They offered no one or no help to find someone reputable. The medical appointment was also not included in the package, contrary to what I was 'sold'. No, I had to pay yet another $500+ to see her, which I did bc. I'd already had a huge sunk cost and, like everyone that goes there, I was desperate. She made me feel hopeful. She ordered more bloodwork to the tune of over $600, and then I was told I'd have to pay another $200 to follow up with her. My insurance company doesn't recognize this establishment as a legitimate medical provider, so I paid everything out of pocket. I believe they are unscrupulous. They only want brain scans for their research. This is their way of getting them at not cost to them. They had the audacity to ask me for permission to use mine for something and I refused. I feel duped, cheated and robbed. They DID NOT deliver on a single thing they promised besides the scan itself. I do not have endless amounts of funds, so I couldn't continue to throw good money after bad. I'm so disappointed that they would take advantage of people like they did me. At least give me the services you sold, Amen Clinics! I wonder if Dr Amen himself knows how poorly this Reston Clinic is performing and treating patients. Well, I reported my experience to the headquarters, with no outcome, so I'm left thinking the whole thing is a sham. I could have randomly found a functional Dr, therapist or psychologist and supplements for FREE, just using his free assessments that anyone can access online. That would have been enough to get me what I got after spending nearly $8,000 there. No one has ever tired to make this right either, so that's the other major issue for me. I'm not trying to get something I paid for, but I certainly shouldn't get less than what others who paid the same price for the same services are getting. As I stated, I live close by so, I could have easily done several days in a row, like the person who came out of town and reports being treated like royalty. I got treated like dirt and I'm over $8K poorer at the same time. No. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I have no confidence that they will get what they paid for. Based on my experience, I'm confident they will go away disappointed and poorer too.

This company gives you the run around when it comes to billing. My insurance was not confirmed as I…read moream currently on a very good plan and yet they issued a bill directly to me. I have tried for the past two days to fix it and they are either unable or they don't care to fix it. Train your personnel better. Counseling was just as good as any other I have been to. Thriveworks has been really horrible for us. We went there for telemedicine (only because they…read morecould not give us in person appointments) and prescriptions. The first service provider was 15 min late on the 2nd appt, then a no-show (after 30 minutes) on the 3rd appt, and didn't notify us at all until 24 hours later. They sent the prescriptions to the wrong pharmacy; it took many many calls, with long hold times to finally resolve the issue and we had missed doses due to the delay. This week (with a new provider), we contacted them twice to ask that they send the prescription to mail order pharmacy (required by insurance), then called (3rd contact) and they said they would escalate to their manager. The script was NOT sent to mail order pharmacy at all nor have we heard back from them as to why it was not done. We called a follow up number they gave us, which they promised would be staffed today. It was not staffed at all. We had escalated because our script is running out. Avoid them if you can. Their responsiveness and support are unbearable. They are polite when they finally answer the phone (but you will not get anyone who can address your concern adequately-- they just email someone), and the entire organization is so poorly managed that obtaining your prescribed medications will be difficult and time-consuming if not downright impossible. They also don't seem to take seriously that when they don't provide medications in a timely way, they may be putting patients at risk.

Kate does a great job keeping him engaged and encouraging him to succeed. My son looks forward to going to see "Ms. Kate." This was in contrast to an ABA therapist who they found very helpful. More recently, they referenced our child in a way that the teacher found condescending and helpful. We really tried to give the therapist the benefit of the doubt but between the lack of helpfulness and hurtful comment of her boss about our toddler- we ultimately let them go.

I highly advise against this location. The culture here is one of forcing the staff's ideas and…read morenarratives onto the children and parents. The team treats parents with disdain - they act like they are above everyone. It's as if you (the parents) are there to serve them and not vice versa. There is no consideration of working parents - you will be at their office when they tell you - and when you do show up for scheduled therapy appointments, it's not uncommon to wait 15-20 minutes for the therapist-- again reinforcing the idea that, you and your time is of lessor importance than the staff. At no time did it feel like a team environment (staff + parents working together) - rather, it was the staff speaking at the parents - with a heavy bias to keep the child in the program as long as possible. As I recall, the program operates on a four-week cycle. So, if you are there on week 5, you get to do the same things you did in week one. My child became agitated with the repetition - wanting to cover topics they hadn't already made significant progress on. This became another point of contention with the therapist, who only seemed focused on keeping my child as long as insurance allowed. The doctor they have on staff is based out of New York and spends a (virtual) whole 5 - 15 minutes with the child, all the meanwhile prescribing medications rapid fire. In the end, it got so ridiculous that the therapist told my child that if she left the program early, she wouldn't get a graduation party. It was almost like they were playing a game of chicken with us. My child saw it for what it was and decided not to return. In summary, I highly recommend against this Embark location.

The therapist on the bills were not the actual therapist There were all sorts of treatment costs that were supposed to be covered by my insurance but Embark kept demanding money from me Staff would constantly lie They'd claim they had spoken to my child's previous therapist or guidance counselor but that was not true. When I said my son would be seeing his pediatrician, they said that was not allowed When I said my son would be receiving his social services they brought me into the office claiming it was "therapy" with my son, but I didn't see my son. Instead the staff yelled at me for "treatment interference" When the county advocate tried to join a call with them, they banned her from communication and once again sent bullying emails. Again my son has received incredible treatment from other facilities Embark, is a scam, they will bully, lie and charge your insurance half a million dollars to get rich
