Our hot water heater stopped working. I called American Plumbing to inquire about repairing the existing hot water heater or upgrading to a tankless water heater. Ryan called back within 30-minutes to talk about general pricing for a tankless water heater and electrical upgrades needed. They then offered to stop by my home within 30-minutes to investigate the issue with the existing water heater. Ryan and Kelly showed up promptly. They were friendly and professional. They went down and were able to easily identify the issue and provided a reasonable quote for repair. They had the parts on hand and were able to resolve the issue within about 10-minutes. Ryan and Kelly showed me the issue, while also giving me recommendations for other considerations with my system. They processed payment immediately following the work. I called them super late last night, as I was having a septic system back up issue. Kelly and his partner showed up early this morning and dug up the water lines and was able to snake out the clogged water lines. UPDATE 3: 9/3/21 (After reading owner's response): Wow! What a lying @#$@$! Stay well clear of American Plumbing - you are warned. Kelly is an outright liar. First, I was not given 2 quotes, just the one quote, a flat rate of $330 with an option to camera for $130 which I did take. The "countless" bags of trash he supposedly moved were 3 small bags about 1 ft tall - see pic, that took him literally 5 seconds to move - I had moved 4 bigger ones and the pallets myself to clear their way and hadn't thought the small ones needed moving. Maybe he can't count past 2? I'm sorry it was such an effort for you. More outright lies re the neighbor who simply wanted to talk to ME - NOT HIM - about weeds that were actually on his property, and getting together to clear some weed debris that was in a dividing joint ditch - see pics - nothing to do w devaluing his property or that my property was a fire hazard, and nothing about any mess because there wasn't any. I mean, like a neighbor is going to approach a plumbing service for help with a property issue. What is Kelly on? And more lies re the smell of dope. Haha, I wish I had dope that smelled that strong it would overpower - like he claimed - supposedly a bathroom full of feces!! (The feces, though they stunk to high heaven, were actually just in a shower basin as you can see from the pics and the tissues were originally dammed against the door to keep the smell in and not to keep the feces from spilling out). And a grow room, drying room? He either hasn't a clue or is deliberately falsely trying to imply something illegal - I've seen grow rooms: they have semi-hard-wired lights hanging from ceilings, multi 100 gallon reservoirs, feeding stations, breaker boxes, etc. Oh and dedicated AC units too. Oh, and live plants too come to think of it! However, he was right that it was a drying room - a room to dry clothes!! All that he actually saw was a PVC hanging frame because my roommate uses that room to hang and dry her clothes when she's finished tie-dying them. She actually shot a video of the room a few weeks ago but since I can't upload a video here, I've taken some stills from it and attached them below. You can see the clothes hanging on the PVC frame in the background in Still #6. If it weren't actually legal to have a grow room, I'd sue him for libel for the implication I'm doing something illegal. And of course we cleaned out the room and moved her clothes because she didn't want them to smell of excrement. Maybe his mind automatically goes to grow rooms because that's what he does on the side, for surely he can't be making any money as a plumber, though he'd need to up his game on both counts. So if the high prices weren't enough to put you off AP, then their dishonesty and retaliation if you give a negative review should (when he called he implicitly threatened to claim I had a grow room). What a piece of work they are. They should be out of business and I will file a complaint with the BBB. Given the above, I also would not believe any of his responses to any other reviews he might make. * * * UPDATE 2, and summary 9/3/21 (before reading owner's response): So AP had originally come out and snaked main line to septic, but refused to do inside snake from shower drain to house outlet because of excrement - charged $460 ($330 + $130 to camera) RR came out to finish the job and not only did the inside snake but cleaned up all excrement in shower basin - $195. (see pic) RR's original quote was 195/hr (plus $100 to camera). If I'd have gone with them in the first place I would have paid a total of $295 ($195, because the whole job would have been less than an hour, plus $100 camera), instead with AP I paid them $460 PLUS I had to pay $195 to finish the job - a total of $655!! * * * Review Update 9/2/21: So AP called to complain about my original review, but there is nothing inaccurate about it. Now to be fair, they did not rip me off in the sense they did quote me ahead of time and I accepted their quote but only because I didn't know any better. Like quoting someone $1,000 to change spark plugs to a non-mechanic. It's just a rip-off price because you can get the same work done a lot cheaper, and actually get the whole job done instead of part because ... they actually didn't do what I thought was included in the price: cleaning out the line from shower basin to outside outlet because they don't deal with the backed up excrement. [EDIT: Another local plumber looked at it and is coming to snake it - seemingly no problem for him - so it'll cost $650 total for 2 different plumbers. Roto-rooter's quote was $195/hr, plus bit extra to camera, and the whole thing would have taken less than hour for a total of $250-$300 for both inside and outside snakes] So sure, AP did what they said they could do - half the job at twice the price! read more

So I posted a review before, but I am compelled to write again as we use them all the time and in fact just used them for another job today. Let me tell you this, I have used plumbers all my life. I have never, and I mean never found a better plumbing company that I have ever worked with. I lived in Marin County for twenty years and when I moved to Lake County I looked for the best service people. I was so happy when I found these guys that I got from numerous people recommending them. I work with the top fortune 500 companies and celebrities in the world and run the whole business from my home here in Lake County. I mean everyone from Conan O'Brien, Harley-Davidson, The NY Yankees, Jersey Boys on Broadway, etc., etc.. I frequently have to entertain high level folks at the home. So if I am going to work with a plumbing company, I really do want the best. It's not just their skill sets which are at the top. But Kelly and Ryan are great people, good family men, honest, fair, and just a pleasure to have in your home. I saw a review where this fellow gave them one star. I know that story, very well, American Plumbing did not even do any work for them and he even admitted that he had confused them with another company. But even after realizing his mistake, he decided that all plumbers were the same anyway, and would not remove it. Sadly, this is the world we live in today. It breaks my heart as these guys will go the extra mile to take care of any customer large or small. So that's my review and as I said before, this is the kind of company you just love supporting. I could not be happier with them. And by the way, when they were here today, we had a list of like ten things including a broken garbage disposal. One by one, they basically either fixed the issue in five minutes or told us there was nothing needing to be fixed. You want an honest company....these are the guys. I called this company and they have an after hours answering company taking all their calls 24 x 7 and is always annoying you can't get any answers. They put me on hold for over 10 minutes then took my information down and said the owner would call me. A few minutes later I get a call from a blocked caller ID and it was the owner with an attitude, not very friendly at all. I asked him if he takes or works with home any home warranties as I have one and if not could he still help me he replies home warranties are a bunch of crooks we don't work with them. He basically needed the conversations didn't ask me about my plumbing issues or how he or his company could help. Terrible service - VERY HIGH PRICED - repaired failed - totally takes advantage of women ... We hired American plumbing to repair an underground leak at our home in Lakeport in July 2018 just before the long holiday - The charge would be $1000 for about 1 hour and 30 minutes of work and digging a small 18" diameter hole to access and repair the 3/4" copper pipe because he had a specialized tool that would be required to complete the job - My wife was expecting a house of people to arrive in 4 hours and she felt very vulnerable ... the work was completed and the job was paid fo in full! Fast forward 18 months later and his repair job began leaking - we called to have the work warrantied - after the third try the repair began leaking again but this time the owner stated that he would NOT come to repair his faulty work because he was too busy ... Terrible customer service - way over priced for the work that was completed - faulty workmanship - worst customer experience ever from a local contractor !! read more

Talked to Ryan this morning about replacing / repairing an old main house shutoff valve that was leaking. Because of the design, it was going to be a challenge. He gave a best case scenario and a worst case scenario. Ryan said he would be out tomorrow to start working on it. Then we added a granny unit on the property where owner Brad was a tremendous help on very short notice. Kelly nice guy pricey had him come out to fix my septic pump and two floaters and charged me what I thought was appropriate for parts but then charged $800 in labor and spent about 1 hour to come diagnose and then 2 hours working on the job. He considers drive time part of the fees. When I asked him why so much, he said it could be a 3 hour job or a 5 hour job just depending on if anything else happens. So when he broke it down he said he expects about $125/hr so he over shot on the quote and when the job was done still charged me what he quoted me instead of coming down on price being that he didn't take as long. Call me old fashioned but when someone breaks it down to you and they expect to make about $125 an hour and only take 2 to get the job done, and I get it he didn't charge to come out and inspect the problem but then tell me what your service fee is and tell me you consider drive time part of your quote especially if you live outside of Lakeport. So $1721 later my problem is fixed. Told him I need to get into plumbing if that is what he charges. read more
