I walked in looking for a new pair of frames.. Mine were old and I was over due for my eye examine anyways. At first glance I noticed the wide selection of frames through out the entire store! They carry brand names such as Nike, Ray Ban, Burberry, Gucci and many more! I was immediately greeted by one of the staff member who was very friendly. He answered all of my questions in regards to pricing and insurance and I was able to get an eye exam the same day. After trying on dozens of glasses I finally picked one out that I truly loved! Staff does not check your insurance before proceeding to any sort of payment method. I was told my insurance would cover my new eye glasses and then I got a call back saying that I would need to pay the full amount. Once they told me what my insurance offers then I asked to at least get the lens replaced since they said it would be covered. Once I go to the store the second time they said I would still need to pay the full amount even though I showed them the text message that said it would be replaceable. This process was unprofessional and I do not think their staff members ask the right questions before making any sort of payment. read more

I use wise for my hearing problems, the owner dealt with me himself and has a specialist hearing person in the shop. We had to jump through lots of hoops for the insurance to cover my hearing aids, and at no point was this a problem, I tried a few different hearing aids he recommended and am very happy with there service. read more

Wise Vision has been in Hoboken 43 years. The current owners' father started it. They are set up to provide direct service to customers, to talk to them to understand what they need rather than how many eye glass stores are setup these days with customers ability to browse and try on their own. If you just want to try lots of frames and prefer not to engage anyone, then this model might irk you. Many people, including myself, might prefer self service in the way it represents shopping online: browse, find and checkout. I would have gone to Warby Parker down the block but there was a 30 minute wait which I couldn't tolerate. The service I received at Wise was exceptional and even the owner came by at the end to walk through various options in frames and lenses, explain clearly what my insurance would cover and why there were different price points. I've never actually had that type of exchange at any eye glass store perhaps because few people have the knowledge or motivation to provide it. I learned about digitally cut lenses versus the current method, I learned that all antiglare isn't the same, how anti fatigue works, I learned about Nike flexon technology and I learned about blue light protection for wearing glasses in front of a computer. All of this information was relevant to my purchase. All of this information is probably on the internet. However self service cover your biases especially if you think of the product as a commodity. Eye glasses and certainly lenses are not. Long story short: Wise is easily the best store I've ever been to for eye glasses. For those who don't want to talk to somebody at the counter know two things: 1) if they are experienced and focused on getting you what you need it's a worthwhile amount of time spent and not one easily replicated at other stores or online 2) after 43 years Wise will be moving across the street and will start allowing for a self service option. I had a less than stellar experience here compared to last year. I did not know I would be seeing someone other than Dr. Larsen until I got there which was a bit annoying. Also, it seemed like there wasn't a designated person trained in retinal imaging and the whole process was sloppy. I ended up getting referred to an ophthalmologist with some pretty grim notes and the ophthalmologist did a full exam and found my eyes to be perfectly normal. The ophthalmologist was also a bit surprised since he expected to see at least a minor issue based on the notes from the optometrist. I really had no idea what happened but it makes me wary to go back for an eye check up. They were a bit more pushy about me purchasing contact lenses from them compared to last year. read more

From the friendly staff who will stay late to help you to the doctors who care about you as a person and not a number or $ amount to the great location, amazing hours & best patient services I've ever witnessed. I've worked in the medical industry for over 2 decades and can easily tell you this is one of the best clinics in the world. I am so so grateful to Dr. Derdova and her staff for saving my eyesight. Without their expertise I am sure I would be blind right now. She is one of the most knowledgeable, hard working, sweetest doctors you will ever meet & she goes above & beyond to make sure her patients feel better & heal. They don't make you wait, they don't charge you an insane amount, they are genuine & appeal to your standards. Dr. Derdova checked my eyes multiple times, dilated my eyes to minimize pain, provided me with samples and checked with my insurance to make sure everything wasn't too expensive. WHO DOES THAT? They do. Because they're simply amazing. We scheduled a mid afternoon follow up but when I asked to come in earlier they were so accommodating. She referred me to a doctor right away and called to make the appointment herself. She never left me hanging and checked in on my progress the entire time. Unfortunately I'm suffering through a pretty serious center corneal ulcer that requires specialist attention, but if it wasn't for her I'd be in so much pain with no positive result. Though I worked with Eddie, I found the entire staff professional and easy to work with. I was having a lot of issues with my glasses from a prescription written at my Ophthalmologist and Eddie and Wise Vision's Optometrist found and fixed the problem and replaced the glasses! Their pre-sales pitch and post eye exam recommendations/suggestions are very enthusiastic. Once the product doesn't live up to what was promised however, the service becomes lackluster and left me with an uneasy feeling of, after being without glasses for 2 weeks, having overpaid for simple reading lenses. All this might be standard procedure in the vision industry, but I will certainly find a different optometrist for my next visit. read more

This is regarding their frames & lenses. I haven't had an eye exam here. I have been going to Wise for my glasses on and off for 20 years. I've found they are patient, most helpful, and willing and able to fix problems with the frames and lenses. The first pair I ever purchased (sunglasses - prescription) came with the wrong color lenses. They immediately sent them back for correction. Same with problems with the frames (replaced frame that broke right away). When I've been 'off' it's been to go to high end optometrists in NY recommended by friends. They were very expensive and I found they were not willing to replace broken frames and in one case lenses that came with a somewhat off (wrong) prescription. So I've always returned to Wise and I highly recommend them ! read more

I scheduled an eye appointment at 6:45pm at night. It was great to not have to take time from work to go get my eyes checked. They saw me right away, the doctor answered all my questions, and the actual exam was pretty quick too! They have a lot of different styles of glasses and after a couple of questions, they were able to help me find a new style of glasses that looked great on me! I was out of there in an hour, and that was mostly because of my indecision, and they were still doing eye appointments when I left! And, to top it all off, they gave me a copy of my prescription before I even had to ask. I usually hate asking for the prescription, because they usually get all defensive because they want you to buy the frames from them, but this place wasn't like that at all. I love Wise Vision. I used to live in Hoboken but now live in Brooklyn and prefer them to any of my options out here. (Park Slope Eye is the worst: CRAZY expensive and has lousy, self-entitled customer service. Yuck!) I will travel almost TWO hours to schlep out to Wise Vision, especially with my vintage frames I keep getting. They've always handled them masterfully, the staff is very friendly and has even pulled some strings to get my prescription lenses ready with these sometimes difficult frames. Dr. Fahimi was wonderful and gave me the most comprehensive and thorough eye exam I've ever had. When it came time to pick new glasses I was helped by someone, one on one, who showed me which frames would work for my lenses and helped me pick the perfect pair. My contacts came in a reasonable amount of time, as did my glasses. My only complaint is that the frames I bought would have been much cheaper online if I didn't have insurance to cover most of the cost (with insurance I actually paid a lot less than the online price but still - why the huge markup?). So if you don't have insurance for your frames you may want to check the pricing online before ordering through Wise Vision! With that said I will certainly be going here for all of my eye care needs as long as I'm still living in the area. read more

The customer service at Wise Vision is excellent. Over the past year I have gotten contacts, glasses, sunglasses and prescription sunglasses. With each purchase I was guided to find the most appropriate fit for me. All eyewear was ordered and received very quickly. Recently, I ordered a pair of sunglasses that were not what I was expecting when they came in. The Wise Vision team not only allowed me to return the glasses for full credit but personally ordered different frames that they thought would fit my style. When returning to the store I was greeted with the pre-selected frames and the very first pair I tried on I loved. The team at this store really took the time to know me and because of that were able to take what could have been an unfortunate situation to an incredible personalized experience. Just Ok. I ordered glasses on a Monday. They were suppose to be done Wednesday and I was told that they would get the glasses in Tuesday to work on them. Wednesday came (day of snow storm) and I decided to go Thursday evening figuring they may need another day. The glasses still were not in, forget even worked on. So I was told that I would get a call when they were done. It is Saturday and no one has called. So I decide to call at 3:15pm. They tell me they have been ready since yesterday. Thanks for the update Wise. I say great. I head out to finish some errands, and head over there at 4:15pm, assuming the close at 5pm at the earliest. Nope I was wrong, they close at 4pm! on Saturdays. One would think that they lady on the phone would have mentioned that when I asked if my glasses were ready at 3:15pm!!!! Nice people but totally aloof. Be aware of the lackluster professionalism. read more

I went here for a FULL eye exam and got what a thought was a COMPLETE prescription for glasses. But they left off a part of the prescription that I actually needed to order the lenses. So when I went back to get the information, they said it would be an additional charge of $10. Are you serious! Essentially the prescription is worthless without that extra information. This is obviously a way for them to charge more than what is normally allowed under my VSP insurance policy. It's like ordering dinner at a restaurant and the restaurant charging you extra for the plate. Pennywise and pound foolish because they just lost all my future business and hopefully yours as well! read more

I don't normally get my eyes checked because I don't have problems with my vision. However, I decided this year I would do my due diligence and be healthy. Wise Vision was great. I was able to get an appointment the same day I called. Again, while I do not get exams often, this was one of the most thorough exams I've had. The doctor was friendly and explained anything he was about to do or was seeing with my eyes. With 20/15 vision, he didn't push for me to get glasses and only suggested Rx sunglasses if I would be driving a lot. The sales staff was also very friendly and helpful looking at frames. Ultimately I was not ready to pay the price for Rx sunglasses being my Rx was very minor. I would definitely recommend Wise Vision! read more

I came into my eye appointment completely unprepared (on my own accord), and they took the time to call my insurance and have them fax all of my information so I could get the optimum discount. Even though this caused me to be late, they were nothing but helpful, friendly, and funny! Dr. Larsen was so friendly and efficient, I got out of the appointment within 20 minutes.
