I filled out a health screening that she actually looked at (when is the last time your Western medicine doctor actually reviewed what you fill out); digested and then discussed with me to help better identify what ailments I was/am facing and what treatments she would do. From there we went right into the treatment. As she was administering various treatments she explained what she was doing and what I should expect throughout. She made the experience great. Very kind, an inviting experience and I felt like she is truly listening and working to make me feel better! She is open to questions and provides thoughtful and informative responses. Shortly after my appointment I received a 'Report of Findings' via email that nicely summarizes aspects of acupuncture, Oriental medicine and specifically discusses some of my ailments and home treatments I can incorporate between appointments. It was general but still had good information I can review and reflect upon. My only complaint is that acupuncture is an expense. Not a fault of Monica or Legacy, just a fact that for regular treatments it can be costly; especially when not covered by insurance or a coupon (which thanks for the Groupon and the offer on Yelp!). Her treatment recommendations include quite a few trips so the overall expense, outside of having a discount/coupon in place, can be quite cost prohibitive with individual treatments running at $80 or a 12-treatment package knocking the per session cost down to $60. Anyway, if you have been thinking about trying acupuncture or are a regular practitioner I recommend Legacy Wellness. Monica is great and I will definitely be back for more treatments.

I've had chronic sciatic pain for over 10 years. I've tried physical therapy, chiropractic care,…read moremassage therapy, stretching, exercise/weight loss, spinal injections similar to an epidural, medication...pretty much everything but witchcraft. Oh, and acupuncture! I have always been freaked out by the idea of acupuncture (amongst the typical fears, but I also have to thank Final Destination). My sciatic pain is caused by a bulging disc. It can be helped a lot better with surgery. Right now I'm too overweight to be a candidate. So that's cool. In the meantime, I needed some serious help. I can't stand for a long period of time to do regular daily tasks such as shopping, cleaning, doing the laundry or the dishes. It's hard to exercise. It's hard to sit. It's hard to sleep! I was getting desperate, and decided to take the plunge and try acupuncture. Jessica was my first provider. She's very sweet and made sure I was comfortable with my first visit. She is very knowledgeable when it comes to healing and I have her to thank for FINALLY giving me some LASTING relief of this pain! The treatment truly works between using the needles and the cupping technique, I've never been more pleased with results I've been searching for, for years! I also see Molly in rotation with Jessica, when one is not available I will see the other. Molly is also amazing! Her techniques and routine are a little different than Jessica's too which I feel is beneficial to my body to get a bit of a change once in a while. Molly is a great conversationalist and is also full of wisdom when it comes to overall health. Both Jessica and Molly make my visits feel like a spa treatment because it's so incredibly relaxing. Sometimes I fall asleep! I would also like to mention the receptionists at Selby are always very friendly and welcoming! Parking is breeze, they comp your parking fee at the Blair Arcade lot. Instead of opting for the famous cortisone shot, I took that cash and went all in on acupuncture- and that was the best decision of my life! I knew really nothing about acupuncture. I just knew I was sick of screaming and crying in pain. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't sit, I literally would scream in the car after a mile. I went two times a week for three weeks, then once a week.. And after about eight sessions, I could sleep again. I weaned down to even just once a month, and now over a year later I can just go in for a tune up. One time i threw my back out on a Thursday, and he fixed me up to leave for my two week vacation by the following Wednesday within 4 appointments. Good things take time, because I didn't have to go back. Brian and his wife are two of the friendliest, most kind and knowledgable people I have met in the field. I was initially diagnosed with metatarsalgia by an orthopedic doctor. He prescribed me foot exercises and metatarsal pads and neither of these ideas was helpful. I then went to a physical therapist and completed all prescribed exercises and this gave me no relief. It was then that I came to Acupuncture Health Center to see Dr. Huan Ma. I was skeptical of acupuncture but willing to try anything to see if I could avoid getting cortisone injections and/or surgery to resolve my nerve pain. The results were impressive. By the 5th acupuncture visit, my nerve pain was decreased by 90%, and it was totally resolved by the 8th visit. Near the end of these sessions, I mentioned to Dr. Ma that I needed to have toe spur surgery due to pain between my 4th and 5th toe due to a toe spur. I had been evaluated by an orthopedic doctor for this a few years ago and was told that this was the only treatment option. Dr. Ma informed me that he could resolve the toe spur pain through acupuncture. I decided to give this a try and it was resolved in another 8 visits. I am thrilled with the results and now have saved both the cost and down time that would have accompanied cortisone shots and surgery to resolve both of my foot problems. Thank you, Dr. Ma!
