The one thing I knew was to make sure whomever I chose do deal with was a fiduciary, not just a financial advisor, as there's a legal obligation for them to operate in your best interest. My boss sent me to AWA where I met with Soren; he walked me through my new financial existence and came up with a couple strategies to maximize my time in the sun. Use extreme caution when dealing with this company. We had a large tree limb spontaneously fall in…read moreour backyard, crushing our children's playhouse overnight. When we expressed our concern about the integrity of the tree (after it had been damaged by a fire 1 year ago), the property manager lied and stated it had been assessed by a certified arborist and deemed safe. Based on my home cameras, I knew this to be a lie. I hired an independent certified arborist who immediately advised the tree was a safety hazard to anyone living near it. Had I accepted their lie, I would have continued to let my children play under the tree and who knows what could have happened. Their willful negligence and dishonesty is unacceptable for anyone claiming to be a professional.

Although, I am sure I am not their largest client, I always feel valued and know that they have my best interest(no pun intended) at heart. During 2 very turbulent market upheavals (the beginning of 45's presidency and at the beginning of the pandemic) when there was a major market downturn, not only did they correctly weather the storm, they took the time to call me, INDIVIDUALLY, to assure me they were monitoring my portfolio. As a new investor and a newly retired individual, this put my mind at ease, considerably. I can not recommend them highly enough. We walked in to perform some financial transactions and were greeted by an employee leaning against the coffee bar who immediately began asking for account information. When we explained that we were not comfortable discussing sensitive financial details in a public area with other customers within earshot, he directed us to a private office and asked us to wait. We sat there for 20 minutes, and no one ever came to assist us or even check on us. Meanwhile, there seemed to be plenty of employees standing around, getting coffee and hot chocolate, socializing with each other, and chatting with visitors. As we sat alone in the office under a security camera, waiting for help that never arrived, we couldn't help but wonder why we trust these people to handle our money. Beautiful facility, but the service was completely unacceptable. Our time is valuable and we departed without doing business.
