My mother was admitted through Mercy Hospital's ER due to psychotic issues. After overnight…read moreevaluation, she was fully admitted for treatment and was assigned to Psychiatrist, Dr. J. Chorowoski. Dr. J. Chorowski is by far, one of the best psychiatrist I have encountered. He clearly analyzed my moms age, past & present medical history, included the family's input throughout, established a workable treatment plan suitable for the patient, and clearly communicated all treatment plans from admission to discharge. He truly went above and beyond the standard expectations. Even after discharge, worked to ensure discharged patient was set up with medications and outpatient needs. There has been a tremendous improvement of my mothers mental heath under Dr. Chorowski's care and she is better on track to returning to the functioning mother who lives with mental health issues. I am so pleased with the services rendered and specifically with Dr. Chorowski. Thank you so much.

Our experience at this hospital has been extremely disappointing. My uncle was admitted to the ICU,…read moreand by day three, the neurologist told us that he would remain in a coma for the rest of his life and was essentially brain dead. Despite this prognosis, our family continued to advocate for additional testing and treatment options. By the second week, we noticed that he was opening his eyes and attempting to respond. We informed the nursing staff, but they seemed unaware of these changes. When we later showed the doctor, he stated that it was the first time he had seen such improvement. We explained that these responses had been occurring for two days and had already been reported to the nurse, yet there was no documentation in his chart. In the third week, my uncle became fully awake. Unfortunately, our concerns about his care continued. There were instances where he remained soiled for extended periods without being cleaned, and when we brought this to the attention of the nursing staff, some responded rudely and dismissively, stating they had more important tasks to handle. We understand that healthcare workers are often busy and under significant pressure, but our family felt that critical changes in my uncle's condition were overlooked and that his basic care needs were not consistently met. Based on our experience, we were deeply dissatisfied with the quality of care and communication provided during his hospitalization.

It took us to meet Diann who normally works in admin overseeing patient care but was working with patients in the maternity ward on the midnight and I must say she was great. Another nurse that deserves an honorable mention is Sherry. She was a true replica of what a nurse should be, she was my daughters angel (Lisa was great too). We arrived at South Nassau Hospital 9:30am yesterday, and my daughter received sufficient care but the type of care and concern Diane and Sherry gave her and the other patients was commendable! When women are in active labor a little kindness goes a long way. Simple things like bringing a warm blanket to mom or offing one to dad, or just holding her hand or talking her through an epidural makes a world of difference. These three beautiful women made up for the midnight crew that ignored the call and told me they would show me how to unhook my daughter so I can take her to the bathroom myself when she needed to go.

They kept me informed, educated, answered all my questions, made sure me, my husband and baby were comfortable. They were so caring and knowledgeable I really was blown away. They listened to my requests, took everything I said serious and were part of an experience that was so special and they helped make it better than I could have imagined. Also the hospital was SO clean. Both rooms I was in were extremely well kept. They have a truly positive staff (doctors, residents, nurses, nurses assistants, Doulas, students, even the person who registered me!), they all made me feel we were in great hands. Thank you Winthrop.

These are where the sickest patients are being treated but yet you have the least experienced staff treating them. A doctor who just finished their residency working the night shift... so very disappointing that an organization like NYU can't find more highly trained staff ... also very disappointing that an organization with this amount of money has tape holding up the windows in the ICU. Totally unbelievable. Threw all their money into sears on Franklin Ave and forgot they have an almost 600 bed hospital up the block that is in need of resources. Do better for the community. Very sad and very disappointed that this what this hospital has become.

From the very first visit, every member of the team treated my mother with such kindness, dignity, and compassion. They never made her feel like just another patient--they made her feel truly special. Over the course of an eight-month journey, we were fortunate to be cared for by an incredible team, including Dr. Manoj Sadhnani, DPM, and nurses Kortney, Patricia, Jolly, Carla, Stephanie, and Mary. Every appointment was filled with warmth, encouragement, professionalism, and genuine concern for my mother's well-being. Wound care can be a long and challenging process, but this team celebrated every bit of progress with us. They always took the time to explain everything, answer our questions, and make my mom feel comfortable and cared for. By the end of her treatment, the celebration of her healing felt like a victory for all of us because they had been with us every step of the way. Their clinical expertise is exceptional, but what truly sets them apart is their compassion. They gave my mother not only excellent medical care but also hope, confidence, and so much kindness. Thank you, Dr. Sadhnani and the entire team, for making a difficult journey so much easier. We will always be grateful for the outstanding care you gave my mom and our family.

Extremely Disappointing Billing Practices and Lack of Communication…read more My experience with NYU Long Island Specialty Center has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. I visited this facility multiple times and accumulated several bills. I have been making payments in good faith, believing I was addressing my outstanding medical expenses, only to discover that my payments were apparently not being applied in a way that resolved the earliest outstanding balance. Now, despite my efforts to make payments, that balance is being sent to collections. When I called to ask for an explanation of how the billing and payment allocation process works, I was left frustrated by the situation and the lack of clear communication. Why are patients not proactively contacted when their accounts are at risk of being sent to collections, especially when they have been making payments? Why is it left to the patient to discover the problem after the fact? I was also informed that NYU operates its own collection agency, which raises additional concerns about transparency and accountability in how these accounts are handled. Patients are already dealing with the stress of medical appointments and healthcare expenses. The last thing they should have to worry about is making payments in good faith, only to find themselves facing collections because the billing process was not clearly explained to them. Making payments should not leave patients confused about where their money is going or why an outstanding balance is still being escalated to collections. Clear explanations, proactive communication, and transparent payment allocation practices should be the bare minimum. I hope NYU Long Island Specialty Center takes a serious look at its billing practices and improves communication with patients. Based on my experience, this process has been unnecessarily stressful and disappointing. I would strongly encourage anyone receiving bills from this facility to carefully track every payment, confirm exactly which balance each payment is being applied to, and request written clarification of their account status.
