HORRIBLE experience. Bad enough I had to have surgery, the OR staff left a blade from a scalpel in me, leaning up against my spine.. see the X-Ray below. They're supposed to count everything going into surgery and check everything out at the end. ABSOLUTELY CARELESS. The nurses outside of the OR were very helpful as they were a few years back.

Hip revision surgery by Dr Germano left me in more pain than before the revision. I'm in constant pain. Wish I never had gone to him.

I have nothing but praise for the emergency room staff of doctors and nurses. I'm sorry I was in so much pain that I don't recall names but to the woman at the desk who whisked me in to the E.R. staff I want to say thank you so very much! Now to the nurses on the 2nd floor G Wing I believe I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sorry if I kept you busy changing 50 bags of fluid that kept my catheter flowing. You nurses are truly dedicated, hard working and go above and beyond. Special shout out to the ones whose names I can remember and those I don't . Amanda, Litzy, Brandon, Maria, Brianna and Tom the RN that was called in when I had an episode. You guys rock. Again thank you all that took care of me when I ended up at Mt. Sinai.

This will probably be the most detailed review that I have ever in my life because I have a few…read morecomplaints but its time to let this go. I've sat for months of disappointment with the treatment that has been recieved by case management at this hospital. So much that has expressed to family, friends, and coworkers its time to everyone that takes the time to read this review. I say case management specifically because my issues were not with doctors and nurses. Before I begin, 1st let's start with their mission statement, "Mount Sinai South Nassau's mission is to provide high-quality, comprehensive, and easily accessible health care to residents of Long Island's South Shore." I was met with complete disrespect by the director of case management when I brought my aunt who has dementia hadn't slept for a month, swollen ankles, begging for food compulsively and having massive temper tantrums. Me as a caretaker with a full time job in total distress begging for help, never said I was abandoning but was continuously told I was by the director. Next, I was told that they were sending her home by ambulette and if I didn't answer they were calling the cops. That was a baseless unnecessary threat to someone that has taken care of my mom who passed from ALS, my dad who died at the hospital in February, and my Aunt for the past 5 years with my Mom watching over her before she got sick. I've taken care of my elders, never asked for help but doors close when you do for elders who may make a little too much, dont have savings, or proper healthcare that's just a fact I'm learning as I navigate this process. And I did call cops as well but it wouldnt have went over. I was floored on that comment and didn't say a single word which led her to hanging up the phone followed. Oh I was also told she's not sick she has dementia...cant decipher that statement my Aunt has been in my life for 50 years if she isn't sick I dont know what is. My Aunt only has Medicare but they failed to provide my Aunt and me with the care that is expected at a hospital. I spent days looking for a solution, stayed up until 5am and finally came across a program that is funded through Medicare, sharing it with anyone who is experiencing the same issues, the organization is called ianacare. Maybe they should have informed me of this organization instead telling me they were going to call the cops that was so hurtful all I needed was help but easily accessible healthcare was not an option for.Mount Sinai case management director. I could also go back to when my father was in the hospital dying as well because case management was pushing to send him home when he hooked to oxygen and couldnt walk anymore. And I am telling them that my son and I was taking care of him for months but I can't handle him with his inability to walk. I did it with my Mom and she was 100 pounds and it was difficult. Or the fact that I am still waiting for my father's death certificate with COPD which he suffered for from years. He died in February its July now - this workflow process should have never be a difficult one because I gave the hosptial all of this information as soon as he was admitted so that his hospital bills were covered. They have his primary doctor for over 30 years, and the COPD doctors and social worker information as well. Delaying this prevents his family from getting the benefits that he is entitled to and makes me feel like its no priority because he is dead. It would have probably been zero stars if it weren't for the doctors and nurses- you guys are amazing

It took us to meet Diann who normally works in admin overseeing patient care but was working with patients in the maternity ward on the midnight and I must say she was great. Another nurse that deserves an honorable mention is Sherry. She was a true replica of what a nurse should be, she was my daughters angel (Lisa was great too). We arrived at South Nassau Hospital 9:30am yesterday, and my daughter received sufficient care but the type of care and concern Diane and Sherry gave her and the other patients was commendable! When women are in active labor a little kindness goes a long way. Simple things like bringing a warm blanket to mom or offing one to dad, or just holding her hand or talking her through an epidural makes a world of difference. These three beautiful women made up for the midnight crew that ignored the call and told me they would show me how to unhook my daughter so I can take her to the bathroom myself when she needed to go.

It turned into such a nice experience because some of the other parents even came to us with questions or for advice whenever Brenda stepped away for a moment. It created a very supportive atmosphere. During the tour, we got to see the labor and delivery area, as well as the postpartum rooms. We also happened to see a new mom walking through the hallway with her newborn, which was such a sweet and special moment. Another nice touch was seeing the statistics for how many baby boys, baby girls, and twins had been delivered there this year. I live about 7-8 miles from all LIJ ER's and usually I would have gone to Glenn Oaks or Manhassett but since face tingling could be a pre cursor to either a panic attack or stroke, I wasn't taking any chances. I arrived around 7:15 PM on a Thursday night and was quickly triaged in about 10 mins. Another 10 mins later I had an EKG and was moved to a bed. The nurse came to set up the IV line and despite me telling her it was poor insertion of the needle she dismissed me and moved on. I'll revisit this. An additional 15 mins later I was wheeled to take the Cat Scan. Things were moving along quickly and then 2 huge cases came in via EMS. One was a 47 year old whose husband came home and found he unresponsive form what I overheard them saying was a stroke and another was 72 yr old male who they had worked on for 20 mins and he hadn't responded. I understand why I'd become secondary to them so I watched Netflix and waited... for the next 5 hrs and 20 mins until the Dr came. I'm the interim I can find no comfort because the needle feels like it's about to break off in my arm. Keep in mind, I'm not scared of needles and have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I get up, go to find her and ask her to fix. By then, my arm is buried under the bandage but my phone was also dead so I couldn't photograph. This is where things got weird. He comes over, introduces himself and asks what's going on. I give him a detailed oral report. He's not very tapped in for whatever reason and even before the EKG results return, he's already telling me " I doubt there's anything we can do about that". How? The whole point of me paying the $150 deductible and bypassing urgent care which has no copay for my insurance was because I wanted a more comprehensive overview of what is wrong. Never have I heard of someone being sent home like " we don't know what's wrong with you". Dude never made eye contact until he saw a Camo canvas bag from J Crew that was personalized with my initials and he remarked " your bag is dope". Well thanks for the compliments sir but I'm here for medical diagnosis and or treatment. This was a horrible experience. Based on the level of care I ended up receiving I might as well have gone to Jamaica hospital with all the gun shot and subway victims .

I'm not a germaphobe but this really was unacceptable. As soon as they clean the bathroom, the patient in the next room would go right ahead and dirty it all over again. Despite this prognosis, our family continued to advocate for additional testing and treatment options. By the second week, we noticed that he was opening his eyes and attempting to respond. We informed the nursing staff, but they seemed unaware of these changes. When we later showed the doctor, he stated that it was the first time he had seen such improvement. We explained that these responses had been occurring for two days and had already been reported to the nurse, yet there was no documentation in his chart. In the third week, my uncle became fully awake. Unfortunately, our concerns about his care continued. There were instances where he remained soiled for extended periods without being cleaned, and when we brought this to the attention of the nursing staff, some responded rudely and dismissively, stating they had more important tasks to handle. We understand that healthcare workers are often busy and under significant pressure, but our family felt that critical changes in my uncle's condition were overlooked and that his basic care needs were not consistently met. Based on our experience, we were deeply dissatisfied with the quality of care and communication provided during his hospitalization.
