This place is an absolute hidden gem in Winthrop and the Brandon/Riverview area as a whole. I've lived in this area for years and only now did I discover it. The liquor store itself, I've seen plenty of times, but the bar and lounge area outside was a very pleasant surprise! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The spaces were unexpectedly private for such a small area. They made very good use of the alley next to the liquor store building. The fire pits made for a very lovely, cozy atmosphere. I ordered a Balvenie and the wife ordered a delicious IPA. We will most definitely be returning. read more

Hidden gem located in Brandon, right next to a Publix. This outdoor space is everything I've been dreaming of/wanted in Florida since moving here. I moved from STL and this reminds me of the patios there, which is a great standard. Drinks are 10/10. I had the old fashioned (there are 200+ different whiskeys here) it's made with Elijah Craig, and it was fantastic. I then had the margarita which was made with fresh limes and it was also great. I finished off with a lager which I don't know the name of cuz I had the waiter surprise me and it was one of the best beers I've had in a while. I'd rate my experience a 10/10 overall. OK so I live in Brandon like 2 minutes from this place and I had no clue they had a Patio that has cocktails, beer, and more! It's hidden away behind the liquor store in a courtyard that is very reminiscent of Europe. The service was stellar and of course if you want to take some alcohol home, the store is right next door. I was impressed with my Old Fashioned ($10) and their selection of beers included a delicious Vanilla Stout that I ordered twice ($8 each). My guest enjoyed a Margarita ($12) with freshly squeezed juices, no sour mix crap. The vibe was very chill at the courtyard, plenty of shade and protected from most of Florida's elements, although you probably would have a hard time there on a summer stormy day, there was some covering from a balcony. The bar inside is even more quaint and very 1920s. I would totally chill in there and talk to the bartender pre-COVID days. It's still really great though, even if its just for a minute and I saw people in there having some fun. The crowd was older and more mature, which was enjoyable since I'm in my 30s now (lol). I'd go back and recommend you do! Hours change so check out their website for the latest and sometimes they do have events so be aware. I'll be back soon! Located in the Winthrop Plaza in Riverview/ Brandon, I've purchased things from this hidden gem liquor store off and on throughout the years. This one is the only one that I've been to so far that has an in-store bar included. Walking in, this place looks like your typical local liquor store, but with nicer ceiling tiles due to their matching of shopping plaza's architectural theme. The selections are somewhat limited due to the tenant space size, but it serves it's purpose. They have a very knowledgeable staff when it comes to craft beer. They can give you stories/opinions up and down about most of the craft beer selections. They're also pretty good with their knowledge of wine too. They have a bar right next to it accessed via door would you lead you into a beautiful narrow indoor bar area which then leads through an exterior door into their side patio. This bar used to be open for their winetasting Wednesdays (Before the worldwide pandemic). There's a bar, however, has re-opened for Friday nights, and Saturday nights. If you purchase a bottle from their store, there is no corking fee if you choose to have a drink at their bar/bar patio area. It's worth a visit if you happened to be on this side of town and are looking for a low-key bar hang out for drinks with friends and/or significant other. What a gem! We came here on a Friday night having no idea what to expect, and we were greeted with a beautiful outdoor patio with plenty of seating, fire pits, calm music, and greenery. You enter through what looks like a normal liquor store and then take a right through some doors and it's like you're transported somewhere else entirely. The drinks were great and fairly priced, and the servers were friendly and attentive. They also serve wine if you ask though it's not on the menu. It was not packed at all on a Friday night. I discovered this place 10 years ago and it's one of the best liquor stores around. Locally owned and operated by a father and his sons. If you go regularly they will know your tastes and will assist you in finding what you need. Morgan is very knowledgeable when it comes to beers. Unfortunately though they are very limited in the way of non-alcoholic beers. But there is 12 pack in the back fridge that they have promised me is from one of the top non alcoholic breweries around called Untitled Art. Can't wait try them. Also they have their own beautiful private beer garden open in the evenings where they have wine, liquors and select beers on tap. Awesome spot! Stopped into the liquor store a couple weeks ago to browse and noticed they had a patio bar. Been jonesing to get back. Came for a drink after dinner last night and wasn't disappointed at all! Old fashioned was tasty, wife had an Aperol spritz (her first), and enjoyed it. Amazing staff and beer selection! Winthrop Liquors is a smaller shop located inside the Winthrop Town Center next to Publix. The store itself is small but they pack a lot of value into a small space. They have a rotating selection of beer and always have new things coming in. The liquor selection is really large well. The staff that works there are all super friendly and very knowledgeable about new things coming in and passionate about spirits. They started pouring on site recently and have 3 taps. I went on a random Wednesday night and out of the three taps, they had an IPA, a solid sour, and a Prairie Stout. Amazing selection if I must say for having three taps. They have a couple seats inside with the tiny bar and a larger outdoor patio area that occupies the ally next to Publix. The aesthetic is so interesting, I can't wait to come back sometime in fall when it's nice and cool outside. Keep your eyes on this place! read more

My husband and I had a date night on Friday and after dinner we decided to check out The Patio at Winthrop Liquors. Once you enter the store there is a doorway to the right. It almost feels like a speakeasy entrance. They were pretty busy but a super nice couple was paying their bill and let us take their seats by the fire. I started with a espresso martini and my just had a French 75. The atmosphere was cozy and electric at the same time! The staff was amazing as well! We were having a great time and all of the sudden 4 randoms sat down with us. We all said hi but still kept to ourselves finishing our conversations. I noticed that one of them looked like Ryan Reynolds and made a comment which started us all talking. We ended up having the best time and the most delicious cocktails. wow, all i can say. first time in 20 years , living in the area i entered the store. I brought my son, he is 19. I am 50. i went to buy a bottle of vodka and the salesperson i'd me and my son. my son doesnt drink. the bottle was a gift i was buying for someone else. i understood him i'ding me, but my son?. I asked him: "Why, he is not buying it, he is with me. " he answered : "Doesn't matter he is with you." i answered : "Ok, keep it." I drove 5 miles up the street bought at Costco and saved $5 same vodka. I asked there if this was the policy not to sell if kids are with you? the Costco store clerk said : "are you kidding , mostly every parent comes in here with kids." my son and i thought this store was a bit rude, guess I could have asked for a full on explanation or thrown a tirade, but hey that what yelps for! my wallet will never again be going in that place so it will do. read more

As a person of color living in a predominantly white neighborhood, I have tried to erase all negative connotations about racism & prejudice in said neighborhood from my mind to add value to mine & my family's lives. What I experienced tonight at Winthrop Liqours is something I cannot ignore. While shopping w/ my husband(white) and siblings(black) at this location the cashier proceeded to ID everyone who was black but, did not ask my husband to show his I.D. once. I don't mind him asking for I.D. But we are regular customers who have witnessed groups upon groups of people(white) together not being I.D. at all. Once again we are regulars but, I am only I.D. By this cashier when I am not w/ my husband. On special occasions we have been in to buy multiple bottles at a time for parties etc. Tonight this cashier(Sam) refused us service when we came back after the earlier encounter to purchase beer. I'm in retail and I know the rules and regulations around refusing service for alcoholic beverages. He had no probable reason to refuse the sale other than he didn't like the fact that there were white & blacks hanging out together. We were polite to him even after he displayed this blunt act of prejudice but, I will not ignore it. I was embarrassed in front of my family. I just want to be treated fairly & equal in the neighborhood I have chose to live in. read more

The store itself might be small, but Winthrop Liquors is one with heart. Situated behind the Green Iguana in the Winthrop Town Center, this is a little gem of a liquor store. I went there just before Valentine's Day in search of the newly re-released Guinness Foreign Extra Stout 4-pack. (Note: Winthrop Liquors is one of a select few stores in the area that even carries it.) There were two men working when I came in and I believe one of them was the owner. Both were friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Not being a beer drinker myself (I'm more of a hard cider enthusiast), I was at a bit of a loss in an attempt to create a beer gift basket for my husband. They were a great help in picking out some interesting craft beers and the prices were very reasonable. When I bought more than my clumsy hands could carry, one employee carried the rest to my car for me. They have a great selection, including numerous single bottle craft beers from all over the world. If you're looking for a hard to find item, give them a call. There's a good chance they carry it.
