I ended up at Lasa on a Saturday afternoon after having lunch next door at the Filipino restaurant…read moreowned by the same family. Lasa is a cafe specializing in Filipino bakery items and Filipino-inspired coffees, matchas, and teas. The bakery space is decently sized with seating available in the front. Aside from food and drink, merchandise and packaged food items are on display along the side wall, adding to the ambiance of the cafe. Bakery items are on display in the glass case and this is convenient for those who like to visualize what each item is, especially if they are unfamiliar with certain Filipino items. The staff was friendly and service was prompt without feeling rushed. There was plenty of parking available in the parking lot at this time. Since I was very full from lunch, I ended up getting items to consume later. I tried the corned beef pan de sal, Spanish bread, ensaymada, and bibingka galapong. Each of these were very fresh and tasted like they were baked the same day. The pan de sal had a good amount of corned beef filling which had a good amount of sauce that didn't leak out and overall wasn't too salty. The other items had the perfect amount of sweetness without being overly sweet. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the bakery items I had from Lasa. The breads I tried were pretty basic, but I'm sure their specialty breads such as the s'mores bibingkinitan would taste just as great. I really wish I tried at least one of the drinks, but that can be saved for another visit.

I wanted to like this place, I really did, but after two visits I'm done…read more My first visit was back in January so I was unfamiliar with the ordering process. When I approached the counter no one acknowledged me so I said hi and an employee said hello back but didn't offer to take my order, so I assumed I needed to order at the tablet which is located before the seating and counter area. While placing my order, multiple people walked past me and ordered at the counter, so that was a little confusing. Those people were eating inside, though, so I thought maybe you need to use the tablet for take-out and order at the counter for eating in. To be honest, I'm still not sure. I assume if a person approaches the counter the employee should do more than just say hello and keep working, especially when I had to say it first, so that was a bit off-putting. I had perused their menu before my trip and wanted to try the breakfast pizza but when I saw it in person it looked old and dry so I decided to try the rice crispy treat instead. Well, it was so hard I had to microwave it when I got home just to be able to eat it. While it didn't taste stale, I don't think you should serve a rock hard rice crispy to someone and ask $4.50 to boot. All that said, the iced latte I ordered was exceptionally good, so I kept that in mind for the future. A few days ago I went back and ordered the same exact latte (via their app this time), just in a larger size. It tasted nothing like the one in January. Not only that, but after taking a sip and inquiring about getting some packets of sugar, I was told there were some around the corner from the counter. All I saw was fake sugar in packets and Sugar In The Raw in an open container with a spoon. Maybe I missed where the regular sugar was, I don't know. The whole area felt really disorganized and dirty which was a turn-off. For what they charge I expect fresher food and a consistent drink experience. I want to support small businesses but this place makes that hard. I won't be back.

I was kind of surprised to see this place listed separately on Yelp as it is actually the cafe…read moreinside of Lifetime Fitness -- but hey, I'm not going to complain. My husband and I don't really plan on eating here because we just come to use the machines, take a few classes, and sit in the hot tub (which is pretty amazing); however, we decided to give it a shot just to say we've eaten there. Life Cafe's philosophy is to provide clean, healthy food to the people using the facilities. That means no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial ingredients, organic and gluten-free options, and so forth. To my surprise, they actually do a good job of sticking with this philosophy and creating a yummy menu. They also make a variety of smoothies with fruits, juices, yogurt, and milk (almond milk available for $.50 more). Whey protein is added to nearly all smoothies but you can request VeganMax protein instead, which is Lifetime's vegan protein supplement. SWEET. (I hate whey.) My husband ordered the savory roast beef sandwich and I had a wild-caught grilled salmon salad with a smoothie. The food is made fresh behind the counter so there is a slight wait. However, you're able to sit at the table and hang out until they bring the food to you (you're given a number sign when you order). My husband's sandwich seemed kind of small; yet, my salad was huge. They were both REALLY GOOD -- much better than we had expected from a place inside a fitness center. My strawberry/banana/orange juice smoothie was good although I could taste the protein powder with every sip. I got used to it. I wish they had more veggie smoothies. The cafe has a good amount of tables, large windows, and shelves of products for sale. I pretty much ignore the walls of products, but the snack bars are cool. So what's the catch? Why the four stars? The food is EXPENSIVE! Kyle's sandwich and my salad were nearly $9 each. I realize that the quality is amazing (and heck, Lifetime's membership isn't cheap) but I just can't afford to pour more money into this place. I'm still glad we tried it!

I had the pick two, which was a half a sandwich (grilled cheese) with a half salad (kale Caesar). The salad was so good! Fresh, crisp and lightly dressed. However, the grilled cheese was pretty sad. I opened it up and there was hardly any cheese. It was just like eating two pieces of grilled bread. They need to improve on that for sure. I also had their 12oz wildflower latte which was very tasty, but served lukewarm and not hot. If the milk is not steamed, it will bring down the temperature of the coffee. I like my specialty coffees served hot. I do have to say every staff member we came in contact with was friendly. They seemed happy and were there to help and answer questions. You place your order at the counter, and you receive a number which you display at your table. There are two dining areas with tables and a few booths to dine at next to where you place your order. Members of the staff bring your order to the table. We didn't have to wait long for our drinks and food. Even with the sad grilled cheese sandwich which was disappointing and the lukewarm latte, I would definitely go back to Blackberry Market again to try other items on their menu. I'll pass on the grilled cheese, though.
