So the last time I went to visit this Winners the security would get in your face telling people to leave minutes the store was closing while there were clearly other people waiting to pay. Yesterday I went to check it out during the day since I had much more time to browse around since it was far from closing at the time. I was in the contemporary section which is the so called "designer" section of Winners. I typically love Winners/Marshall's in general because they do carry cute things but I don't know how to feel after this last visit. I was in that clothing section of Winners when a sales associate came up to me and said "This is the designer section, the other women's clothing section is on the other side if you want to go over there." I felt like she was implying I couldn't afford that section and it was very condescending mind you the sweater piece I was looking at was only $39.99 in the so called "designer" section. It was just a really odd, off-putting experience that just unfortunately made me feel belittled. So for now I guess I'll just visit their neighboring store Marshall's a few steps away where Best Buy is. It's unfortunate because I wanted to give this store a second chance. read more

winners at 660 granville street is a downtown ritual. in its new location, it spans two floors of women's, men's, and kids' clothing, plus household goods and all things lifestyle: travel, fitness, makeup, accessories, pet stuff, and yes, seasonal decor you didn't know you needed until five minutes ago and now cannot live without. it's the perfect place to shop for gifts, get inspiration, and somehow, against your better judgment, always end up buying a little something something for yourself. purely accidental. totally unavoidable. this is not a store for the impatient. you must sift. you must filter. you must embrace the chaos. sometimes you strike gold, fabulous finds like tory burch suede ankle boots for $299 or adidas sambas for $60. other times, you leave empty handed and slightly emotionally drained, wondering who you are and what you came here for. if you see something you like, buy it. immediately. you can always return it later if you change your mind. if you don't, it will disappear forever, reappear in your thoughts at 2 am, and haunt you for years. regret is not a cute look. just remember to keep your receipt, do your part to stimulate the economy, and casually upgrade your wardrobe while you're at it. retail therapy at its finest. read more

I love that this location has now moved to right next to the granville skytrain station. I wouldn't really recommend this location because both times that I went majority of the hangers indicated the wrong size for the clothing and it was pretty frustrating when I was trying to look for clothing that was my actual size. They definitely need to organize this location better. Some good things that I enjoyed was that they had a good selection of bags that was also nicely color sorted, decent shoe selection, and a very good work out section. read more

This place used to be alright. Now it's hard to find anything of interest. It's always crowded and the lines to cash out are always so busy- if you are on your lunch break or in a rush - forget it. The staff however are always friendly. Especially the cashiers. I always will buy one of their oversized bags for 1.49 (across from the cash area) they are great for large and heavy purchases. read more

Went to the downtown store in Vancouver, winners have moved from the Robson/Granville location to another location on Granville by The Bay transit station. Was a big disappointment, everything was disorganized. They had really poor selection of goods. Women and mens clothing was on another level and it was hard to find where the escalator was. I got up to the second floor for the clothing, and just had to get out of there fast. Everything was just so packed in that it made you feel claustrophobic. Really poor marketing. Plus most of the clothes look so outdated and old. It looks like a Ross for less in San Francisco, clothing like rags on the floor. I've shopped at other locations, and it seems like over the years Winners is is not a winner anymore. I use to be able to find high end items there, now all I find is junky clothes and cheap shoes and purses. read more

The cashier did not greet us even after we said 'hi.' When I asked for tissue paper for wrapping my purse, she did not offer to wrap it and she just tossed the tissue paper at us. She never smiled and she looked like she was bothered. She did not even say 'thank you.' The assistant manager came to us as we wrapped the purse at an unoccupied cashier counter. He spoke very softly so we could not hear him. He followed us as we went to another counter because we thought he wanted to use that counter. He offered to tape the tissue paper for us but he made it difficult for us to hear him because he was mumbling and masked. He was asking something about the cashier. If they really care about service, they should speak clearly and loud enough for customers to hear them, and also make sure the staff are trained properly. read more

Compared some watch prices & messenger bags. Watches from Fossil were 15% to 20% cheaper online at Fossil Canada, Messenger Bags from Matt & Nat were also the same percent cheaper online from Matt & Nat. Yes, there are some reasonable deals, but it helps to price check. As well a lot of their items are defective. You'll definitely find better deals at The Bay, their watches are often 35% off & clothing is much cheaper as well, especially on weekends. read more

I am a big Winners fan, and I visit the downtown Montreal Winners a lot when I visit that city - and I usually find a lot of clothes and shoes at really great prices! I was disappointed when I visited this Winners, however. I understand that it's always a crap shoot, whether or not one will find anything they want/need on any particular visit. But not only did I not find anything when I came here, but I found the place in disarray, with a lot of clothing strewn about and items in the wrong departments. I also didn't find the prices to be as low as I would have expected from Winners. To top it off, I saw quite a few tops with missing buttons or gaps in the seams. I've never seen "irregulars" like this at the Montreal stores. There already were quite a few holiday/seasonal items on display, and this would be an ideal place to pick up ornaments or Christmas plaques or wrapping papers or tags. And they had some very cute winter pj sets for women, too. If one visited here regularly and frequently and inspected items carefully for defects, I'm sure they'd find treasures at a great deal. For us, visiting here only once, we left empty-handed. read more

I saw the big Winners sign on the outside of a the building on Granville but didn't see where the door was! It's located on the 3rd floor where you go in to Future Shop (now Best Buy but they haven't changed the signs yet even). We headed up the escalators up to the 3rd, and I went to the men's section. It was lunch time so there were a few people in the store but not crazy busy. I found the outerwear section and was disappointed with the selection. For mediums, there were like 5 jackets including a Dockers brand. Not much of a selection and didn't meet the needs of what I was looking for. There wasn't many in the large sizes either. Walked by a few other departments but nothing caught my eye so headed for the exit. read more

1/20 times I visit the store, I usually find the diamond in the rough. Winners is full of items that cannot sell in regular stores. Clothing and accessories might be outdated or just the fact that they are a little off. You have to spend waaaay too much time here separating the wheat from the chaff. And granted I arrived at the end of the day, but the store was very untidy and quite grimy. I am not sure if it is like this all of the time but I was not impressed. I am not expecting to find Vivienne Westwood in the so-called "Runway at Winners" designer section but I expected a whole lot more than some skittles colored Jones of New York t-shirts. For the most part the garments I saw throughout the store were not particularly well crafted and were of some really strange fabrics. My one find was a beautiful pair of wool lined Italian calf skin gloves for about half the price you would pay at a higher end retailer. They literally were the only nice pair among an end cap filled with weirdly colored, damaged and ill-fitting gloves. If you have tons of time to find the 1% of decent garments in among the schmatta then have at it. I just won't be there with you. read more

Like a bizarre treasure hunt, where you never know what you're going to get! I desperately needed new workout clothes and summer sandals, so I stopped by to see what they'd got. As usual, there were swarms of people rifling through racks upon racks of sometimes organised, sometimes all over the place clothes. I found a few pairs of workout pants to try, although the shirt selection was slim. The sandals were almost non-existent, I imagine they'll be making their way onto shelves in the next few weeks! The changing rooms are weirdly, starkly lit, but they are roomy enough to change comfortably. The lighting isn't great for seeing how things actually look, but it's good enough. I feel like Winners is an odd necessity when hunting for bargains. read more

*Ex-employee alert - but I worked at a different location like 3/4 of a decade ago* Winners in general is a frustrating shopping experience for ADHD personality types like me. Plus all the people, especially at this location... but I felt like braving it a few days ago. So. Glad. I. Did. Valentio, Dolce & Gabbana, Escada, Chloe, Pink Tartan, I could go on. Oh, and I had literally come directly from Holts and did see a few of the same items. How does that happen? The prices for the brands are really reasonable. One of my favorite denim makers was selling loads of merch there. Cue drooling. Oh, and for half the price I usually pay. I've never seen Winners look so good... I'm not sure if it's the recession or just improved buying relationships, or both, but I hope this location stays this good forever. read more

I'm not crazy about the selection at this Winner's, everything seems jumbled and usually when I'm downtown shopping I don't have enough patience to sift through every piece of clothing. In addition, I recently got reamed out by a salesperson at the changing room because I didn't realize I had to take a number to go in (my mistake, I know, but I had thought the lineup started further into the changing room area due to a lady waiting for a friend or something). Anyway, nobody stopped me as I slowly ambled my way in with arms full of pants after pausing at the desk without acknowledgement. When I came out and realized my mistake, rather than being polite about it or even just asking to check to make sure I didn't stash a bunch of pants into my laptop bag, the saleswoman berated me in front of two of her other colleagues as if I was an 8 year old. This is despite the fact that I'd already apologized at this point and acknowledged my own mistake. Actually I take that back, even when I was 8 nobody ever talked down to me like that. I love this particular location as I always seem to find what I seek... from amazingly discounted purses, to kitchenware, to back-of-door hooks, to running socks, to winter boots, to a hot new shirt to wear to tonight's function. This store is a last resort for buying t's for t-shirt design but selection for men's large, was almost nil to nonexistent. I did find a cute Mat and Nat purse once for around $150. It was around the same as what I'd pay at Holt's, but a season too late, so I can't really call it a deal. Still, I used it a lot and you'd never know that I purchased it here. I notice that it's about 1.5 x amount of what you'd pay at TJ Maxx in the US, which is to be expected, of course. Lines move quite quickly and the staff is cordial. I really would rather wait and go to the US than to shop here, except that can be a pain and inconvenient. Even the shampoo selection isn't as good here, if you trust the age/quality. The women's clothes are similar to TJ's but again, more money and around a year late in trends. So, overall, not a bad place for select essentials when you are attempting to get a better deal than you'd find elsewhere. read more

A friend kept raving about how great Winners is and how she got a pair of Hunters for $60.00. I went in assuming it was a discounted shoe warehouse but they offer primarily discounted men/women clothes from high end brands, med price range cosmetics, and practical/luxury accessories. Really impressed with the brands they offer and their prices considering how much I like shopping at Holt Renfrew and Yaletown boutiques. The store can be a big clutter but if you want to look for something you like you really have to spend 1-2 hours searching. I went in looking for shoes (I am a size 6 or 5.5) but it was not that easy to find items that perked my interest in purchasing but I did find a pair of CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN HEELS for $700 that is a few hundred dollars cheaper than what you get at Holt Renfrew. I browsed around some more and found the selection of underwear decent with Walmart prices. If you don't take the time to search, you might be disappointed. Lastly if you hate dogs steer away from this store...Dogs aplenty. read more

The Island of Misfit Clothes. After an estimated 60 visits since its opening, I've found: -ugly, garish colors (how much neon mustard yellow can humanity tolerate?) -cheap fabrics (runs, snags, and highly flammable) -sloppy stitching (there goes another seam... anyone got a safety pin?) -walls full of heavy, chunky, cheap, plastic shoes -dated designs (pleated, turquoise gabardine slacks, ew) -physically impossible sizing (how can jeans with a 28" waist have a 4" torso? Does the designer even know what a female body looks like?) -smaller sizes always picked over (too many other small customers in the downtown area to compete with) -change room doors that slam so loudly your teeth may fall out. 60 visits later, I have yet to find something worth purchasing. read more

I know it's downtown and all, but I like to buy my stepkids stuff sometimes on my lunch hour. Sad face. However, the thing that really bothers me, and not about just this Winners, it's all of them. I avoid this Winners for anything other than purses or shoes, but am sure to check-in every couple of months as they have the best selection I've found at any location. I love their purses as they carry Matt & Nat bags. And not just one. In yellow. Hidden in the back row. But tons. They have full sized bags, handbags, and wallets, all for considerably lower prices than what they're sold for on-line or in other retail stores. Sure, they're still over $100, but that's the brand and I would rather that then the regular $300 price tag. Shoes, I can't really say much about. The size 10+ section is usually fully stocked, and it's nice to see styles that are also available in the smaller sizes. Somehow they always look like boats though, and while they fit, I think there's something about the illusion that your size is going to look like the size 6 display shoe, that makes them winners. read more

Ok, I understand that this is a discount place but that's no excuse for bad service. I was at the Winners on Robson this week to see if I could find a skirt. I found one that I liked but it wasn't the right size. So I asked one of the people who worked there as I know they sometimes have stuff from the change rooms that they haven't re-hung yet. She glared at me and said " I don't know", turned around and walked away. I was stunned. Not a bit of effort to help me. As long as you're willing to hunt for the deals, esp. for the men's clothing on those forever racks, sure...just not for me. But i'll admit it feels good when u do find that perfect jeans with the right waist & right length so you don't need any alterations. A bit smaller than Richmond's but nevertheless, more selection than a man really ever needs in terms of clothing. Also a decent section for men's toys, handbags too. It's esp. convenient if you're on the way to this area for Future Shop ;) Being on the top floor, I prefer using the elevator to save time from their slow escalators. I do find their customer service at the checkouts much faster than their other locations. read more

I was wondering why Winners, Marshalls and TJ Maxx had the same decor then I realized they are all owned by the same US company. Sure, they have great buying power and hence we get some of the deals but seeing what the US counterparts get in their stores, I think we are more often than not getting the bottom of the barrel. But since us poor suckers above the border don't have anything close to discount/outlets, Winner's is a natural magnet for bargain shoppers. Sure, most of our club wear in Vegas was courtesy of Winner's junior's dept (and I'm forever grateful to be able to look somewhat good and work up a sweat in relatively cheap disposable clothing), Winner's can be a hit or miss. Still, when the next best thing is Sears or the Bay (and then step up to Holt's), Winner's sure is attractive. Have patience and take it as an adventure. Shopping is like women gathering berries and sometimes, there just isn't any fruit. But seriously, can't they send a truckload of something nicer once in awhile up north? And why do the handbags all look so plastic? I have to say that the new Cambie location has the nicest change rooms. And finally, despite all this, I still like ploughing through the racks at Winner's as opposed to Sears. read more

I do heart Winners. But there is nothing like a trip to Winners to put me in a bad mood! Especially on a weekend! Once upon a lifetime when I was a wee young lass I worked at Winners and used to see all the fabulous new things coming in. Now I shop with the huge throngs of people milling around the downtown location. I really have to be in the mood to shop here. If I'm not in the mood to sift through tightly packed racks I can get very irritated. You cannot blame the staff for not being able to keep the place organized as a) it's crazy busy and b) people are slobs. I always see people knocking things down and throwing them around. Which is probably why when you go to try things on the staff always say "make sure you bring that back on the hanger" (brashly...usually). It's a bit of a gripe because I always put things back on the hanger, but I don't need to be told that I have to. Does that make sense? Meh. If you have the time (and patience!) to sift through the racks and navigate the aisles then GO! But be warned....they have one of the worst returns policies EVER! So long as my patience is in tact, I can wander through Winners for longer than necessary, perusing the aisles for discounted gems from home decor and essentials, women's and men's apparel, accessories and beauty items. If you aren't aware of the story of Winners, they are the leading off-price retailer, part of the TJX Companies group, which also owns the American TJ Maxx, Marshall's and HomeGoods along with home decor shop HomeSense. You can find everything in store for up to 60% less than you would at department stores that carry similar and the same merchandise. Now that you are caught up, the thrill of the hunt is the key to a Winner's shopping excursion, otherwise it can become slightly overwhelming. You can find some amazing deals on top designer wear, especially on shoes in this particular store. Have a wander and see if you can't find something worth the trip! read more

Don't really get the point of this store. It's cheap, but it is sooo disorganized and it seems clothes and shoes are all hard to find in your size because they only carry a few of each. Kinda like going to big sales at other stores a bit too late. Many fewer staff than security cameras ;) But I wouldn't really grade it so low if it wasn't for my experience buying Nikes for my preteen son. $25, a total bargain (size 8, so not just a kiddy model price). Really low, in fact almost suspiciously low for Nike. Even though they also looked uncharacteristically shabby for that brand. Things is, within 4 months, both the left and right shoe had big holes in the front. Nike is what it is, but they don't usually make shoes that fall apart so quickly. And this is the only time it happened so quickly to my son's shoes. An imitation Nike? A discontinued/rejected model, due to quality problems? Dunno, but it hardly ended up being a great saving. So, hardly worth shopping in that mess of a store. p.s. Just recently, there was a CBC article about their habit of inflating retail prices of items in order to "compare at" their prices more advantageously. To quote: "In the U.S., Winners' parent company, TJX, is the subject of a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of misleading pricing tactics in its U.S. T.J. Well I have glanced through the other reviews and accept that we all see things from the perspective of our particular circumstance. Personally, I have shopped for specific clothing items [ male ! ] and come away as a TOTAL WINNER. The " fashion," critics may obviously say otherwise of course !!!! I needed some semi-casual / business shirts and ties; well not only did I manage in a short space of time to locate exactly what I sort [ with the assistance of store staff ] - I came away with bargains. And Yes, the clothes are still going strong, years later ! There is a NICHE for everything and You will loose only a little time shopping @ WINNERS....that is my opinion, anyway. read more

My general impression of Winners from my visits to this locations in that it's disorganized. Occasionally you might luck out and find something worth your while, but overall, there's a lot of junk. Overall, this Winners is severely picked over for people like me who wear size 2. I bought few pairs of shoes there, tights and scarves...but this location is often miss then hit. Medium and Large sizes are fully stocked but XS is abysmal at 3-4 ugly and outdated items - yes, it really is that bad. I prefer Park Royal Winners. Much better as far as selection goes. read more
