The mildly disgruntled murmurs from male shoppers as they meander Robson Street is quiet but audible. Overrun with mid-range to high-end boutiques that cater almost exclusively to women, the choices for menswear are few and far between. Aside from the denim at Bluenotes and the conservative cuts at retailers like Banana Republic and Mexx, Robson Street holds little appeal to those with more esoteric tastes and fashion-forward leanings. Roden Gray carries a broad range of clothing; bringing quirky quality cuts from the far off nether regions of Europe, Asia and the States. They are one of the few (if possibly the only) places to carry Comme des Garcons in Vancouver and the smart designs of Obedient Sons (where is the Daughters line?) and the artfully deconstructed and urban style of Nice Collective. Roden Gray deals exclusively in men's fashion--my credit cards are probably sighing in relief.

Fifteen minutes, a few hundred calories, and a quick Yelp search later, I found myself standing inside of their beautiful Gastown store. First, it's hard not to be smitten by the space itself. Wood, brick, and steel seem to be Gastown staples, and this space blends the materials beautifully. At the same time though, cascading wall plants and some strategically placed trees make the space feel cozy. Factor in the ridiculously comfortable sofa near the dressing rooms, and you just might find yourself inquiring about a sublet. As for the main event, the clothing, the styles are mostly classic (with some welcome twists), the fabrics look and feel expensive, and the cuts are on the slimmer side. You can find everything from t-shirts and chinos to formal suits and sneakers (and pretty much everything in between). And the best part - the prices are actually reasonable. I have to give much deserved kudos to the wonderful staff, who made my shopping experience enjoyable from start to finish. Their patience and assistance while I seemingly tried on everything in the store was greatly appreciated. One final tidbit, make sure to enroll in their rewards program, which gives you back 4% of your in-store purchase for next-time. The credit never expires, and is stored electronically in their computer system for your convenience.

If you are in their store, it is most likely that you've chexked out their website already. My review is based on the customer service I received at the Gastown location. Me being an old dude, I'm use to shopping at GAP where the staff are smiling and super friendly despite on the stupidity of my questions. In this store, I got a blank look when I asked for helped, as if like a regular dude like me don't have clothing questions. The staff was unsure on what products were in promotion which is fine, if I was in their place I wouldnt remember either. It wasn't all that bad, but I just got a negative vibe from the staff almost as if they were lifeless and annoyed. Essentially, Frank and Oak staff in this store really need to smile and greet customers as if they like being there. No attitudes despite on shitty the day is going. The atmosphere in the place felt very snotty which does not make a good shopping experience. Regardless, I will continue to shop here and continue to ask questions so beware staff I will test your patience. I like their products and their prices are fair. Good day to you all!

We didn't have time to go in today so I stopped for a minute while my partner could take a peak inside - he had purchased OffWhite before, he planned to come back later and take a look. While I was stopped in front of the store looking for directions to our next location a young Asian girl comes out and tells me I can't park there and told me to move. I said i was not parking and was just checking for directions. She continued to insist I move on. Said I'll be a minute and move on and that we have purchased OffWhite product. I found my direction in google and as I was about to drive away I looked back, she was staring at me from inside the store and then raised her middle finger to me. I was shocked she would do this to anyone, especially a potential customer. I got out of my car and went in to say how shocked I was and that it was disrespectful. How embarrassing an experience, I certainly can not return to this store now.

What a fun area - and this large clothing shop was our favorite of all the clothing stores there. The shop is well laid-out, and it carries an extensive array of women's and men's clothing and accessories. Everything was trendy and cute, and best of all, the prices were quite reasonable. The sale items I saw weren't the usual odd-lot items, too; there were checked Vans slip-on sneakers on sale and other mainstream, recognizable items. In fact, my kid and I commented how we liked how there are many brand-name items as well as unique, lesser-known brands, and clothes we've not seen anywhere else. This would be the perfect place for a young professional woman to get her work and non-work wardrobe, as the clothes are on-point and the prices are right. I definitely would be able to find whatever I needed here.

Unique combinations of neutral tones and tactile materials mix with bohemian and eclectic to create the most stylish wardrobe a girl could hope for. Hardwood floors and neatly arrange racks make for easy garment spotting and you'll also find a small assortment of very groovy shoes and bags to compliment your gorgeous look.
