Sunday "Father's Day... Worst Restaurant Experience!…read moreMy son and grandson wanted to take me out for a Father's Day lunch and we chose The Chick and the Pig since we never ate there. We got there around 12:30, ordered our food by phone (because there is no wait staff other than a bar tender), pay for the food via phone, and waited a hour only to be told that there was no food left. Customers that came in after us had ordered and ate but not us. Finally my son went up to the kitchen window to ask why we didn't get our food. The kitchen staff told my son "We ran out of food". One would figure that there would have been some type of announcement made instead of leaving us and some other customers hanging but, nobody said a peep. This was the worst experience we've ever had at any restaurant! How can this place even operate without a wait staff and run out of food soon after it opened for the day. It simply was not busy enough to run out of food. Seems to me that the underlying problem is the owner and management. One thing I do know is that I will never go to this restaurant again nor their other restaurant Bold American Fare. Thanks Chick and the Pig for leaving us hungry and for giving us a very bad experience on Father's Day!!

I appreciate them having you here for me to review this place I still like that. The Diet Coke was really good. The atmosphere of this place is really nice. They have a nice disco feel so if you're in the area of Crystal Lake, I would check out raising Cane's.

Okay - so we have a fast-food franchise based on the concept of recreating a version of the typical…read morechicken-fingers plate that is offered as an inexpensive "Child's Meal" at nearly every 'chain restaurant' in America. Only at Cane's - it's not really inexpensive. I wasn't going to review this place because I don't like writing negative things about restaurants and posting them on Yelp. However, I also wasn't ever planning to eat here - until a friend took me yesterday, a friend who had also never been here before - and she didn't like it either. On the surface Cane's is a typical fast-food place, clean and well managed, with a friendly staff and lots of empty tables. However the menu at Cane's is limited, not only in it's offered food items but also in the way that you can order them. For instance, Cane's really offers only "Combo Meals" ($9 to $16), as well as large "Tailgate" platters ($48), a "Kid's Meal" ($6.99), and a few sides, including slaw & what they call "Texas Toast". And every meal is centered around ONE ITEM: a battered finger of chicken breast that's deep fried. There's no grilled option, no fish sticks, nothing else, except for toast, fries & slaw. So if you eat here You WILL Eat 'deep fried Chicken Tenders, Fries, Slaw, and a slice of unbuttered slightly grilled bread, + a Fountain Drink". But this isn't the Real problem that I had here. My issue is that they offered only ONE Type of pink-grey Dipping Sauce (which I didn't really like), the Fries were dry, the Slaw tasted medicinal, the "Texas Toast" was a nothing-nothing, and even the water tasted bad. It was NOT A GOOD LUNCH even at half the price. If you want a typical chicken-fingers plate - go to Denny's! For those reasons I will Never return.

He had been a customer all his life before moving to California, and my brother-in-law grew up on this place. We ordered the mixed meat plate, half rack of baby back ribs and the pulled pork sandwich, all with curly fries. My favorite meats were the fall-off-the-bone ribs and the brisket! Everything was lean and smoky. The plates came with a fresh bun, beans and coleslaw. They were not "wow" but delicious nonetheless. I liked the sauce so much that I bought some to bring home. The restaurant itself is super tiny and homey. Since we have our dogs, I got the order to-go while he waited at his family's place. Everything was packed nice and tight, resulting in zero leakage! Overall, I am not sure we will be back as we are only in town a couple days, but I definitely will keep it in rotation for future visits. Pros: - fair pricing - excellent quality meats (no smoke rings though) - beautiful date-night location (near a river!!) - decent amount of parking for a downtown area - cozy ambience - super friendly (a running theme in the Midwest) - unique, local craft sodas - sauce on the side for mix plate Cons: - ribs slightly over-sauced - stairs and ramp a tad steep to entrances - not in Oceanside :)

First impressions, not great great. Things we did not like: The waitress was wayyyyyy to chatty. We really didn't need to know the details of her day or life. The table was sticky. They do not do a good job cleaning. My side of veggies were not steamed well. Half were still too hard, the other half, over cooked and on the verge of mushy. My husband ordered a beer. The first one took too long to be served ( the restaurant was not busy) and when he asked for a second, well...it never came. We were charged for the beer that never arrived, so the waitress had to take it off the bill. We went because we received a gift card from a friend. We will likely never return.

Cluttered with boxes of supplies and junk. The food is really cheap at least. A restaurant that is bare bones. It's one of those strip mall Chinese restaurants that is similar to all the others.
