This used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant. I don't know what's happened, but after last nights visit my family won't return. We made reservations for 7 people at 7. We arrived slightly early, they sat us in a separate party room, not sure why, there was room in the dining room, they weren't busy, they sat us down, took our drink order and the waitress immediately acted very irritated with us. The owner or manager had to bring over menus after us sitting for quite a while without any. She was very friendly. Our waitress though had such a horrible attitude it just ruined our meal. The general tsao's chicken has changed and wasn't as good, and was barely luke warm. I felt nauseous the rest of the night after eating here. The wonton soup was extremely watered down also, the only thing that really tasted good was the egg roll. The prices are very high for such lack luster food. Almost $18 for udon noodles. But it was the terrible attitude of our waitress that made us say we will never return. Such a shame. read more

The potstickers are awesome. The Szechuan beef was lacking in beef. Almost the entire quart of food was celery and pea pods.. The pea pods were tasty but nonetheless it was a beef dish. The general Tso chicken was not spicy. And the refried rice served with the dish was clearly something prepackaged, and was not truly fried rice. Combined that with a crappy eggroll, and you have yourself a true failure of a Chinese dinner. I'm truly disappointed in this restaurant because they've always done better before but this was a true waste of a meal. read more

This was my all-time favorite Chinese restaurant when I grew up in this area -- little Cynthia loved it so much, she would request it for her birthday dinners. Though we live out of state now, we usually return whenever we go back to visit relatives. I love splurging on the Sizzling Wor Bar, and my kids discovered that they love being able to cook food themselves when they order the Pau Pau Platter. I love that the decor hasn't changed since the place opened the year I was born! The family of restaurateurs is always super warm and friendly. Will continue to return! read more

Ordered a carry out - ABC. Requested gravy on the side and fried rice. Once home, I unpack my order and the rice is white not fried. Not a big deal, it's rice after all. However, the chicken was also its own situation- covered in gravy, and the gravy has shredded lettuce floating around in it, perhaps the chicken was laid on the shredded lettuce before the gravy was added? Regardless, it was an odd mix, even stranger texture when eating and just flat out weird to have setup the meal in that manner in the carry out box. Very clean restaurant. One of the cleanest I have ever been in. The owner was very friendly. Ordered sweet and soup chicken lunch and it's very good. They add green pepper, onions, carrots, pineapple and zucchini to the fresh chicken. Very good service but I ordered a to go order with white rice instead of fried rice but still got fried rice and the rice had a burnt smell to it. The egg drop soup was very good and so was the egg roll. This place is a third generation restaurant and has won best Chinese restaurant multiple years and I would agree with its awards. Absolutely the worst food in the area across the board. General chicken was just ketchup smothered chicken nuggets. Hot and sour soup had so much caned water chestnuts and caned baby corn (what doesn't belong in said soup) as filler. it made it all taste like the inside of a tin can. Do NOT waste your money here. They obviously pay for good reviews. No joke. My cat would rather eat dry food over the ketchup cover "Real" chicken. Makes you wonder. read more

Is it safe to eat here with celiac? Yes. Is it very tasty? Flavorful? Exciting? Unfortunately, no. Even the hot tea I got tasted like water. My partner, who doesn't have celiac, didn't finish their eggroll or their meal. I dug the tofu out of my very oddly flavored sweet and sour tofu and called it a day. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. The crab rangoons are the best! I usually get the orange chicken dinner combo, which is usually good, but the quality can be a bit inconsistent. The spring rolls with plum sauce and oolong tea are also good. A pot of oolong comes free with dinner, as well as fortune cookies and a scoop of ice cream. The combos also include your choice of wonton or egg drop soup and an egg roll. The atmosphere is dim, quiet, and calming. Wing Lauk is my go-to for Chinese. Update: The last time I was here was not a good experience. The server was very rude and there was a small hair in my wonton soup. They also changed the recipe of the crab rangoon, and they are no longer anything special. If this carelessness continues, they will lose me as a long time customer. read more

I've been a customer of Wing Lauk for 40+ years. Their food is always wonderful. Even when I moved across town, i would make the trip back just for their food. The owners/staff are always so friendly, cheerful, and kind. I haven't been there in more than six months, when my mom passed away... I know they will ask about her the minute I walk in, and I'm still struggling with her loss. But I will get back there soon. No one else makes their Curry Lomain or Subgum Wanton! read more

This restaurant is the quintessential "Detroit style" Chinese American eatery. Vintage traditional tiki decor and exotic tiki cocktail menu dating back to when going out for Chinese was still an exotic and upscale dining event. The recipes here are unique to the restaurant and have gone unchanged since the 1970's when the restaurant was opened (something you don't find in most modern Asian establishments). The liberal use of vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, white pepper and five spice (and vinegar plum sauce) make this an absolute staple for genuine old fashioned Detroit Style Chinese food. In a world of increasing Panda Express style or pre packaged frozen style Chinese buffet type restaurants, this is an absolute breath of fresh air and an enchanted trip back in time to the flavors and atmosphere every Detroiter recalls from yesteryear. I had a lovely umbrella drink called Yellow Bird. Wow! Just like a dessert. Some of the best chinese food around and have been for YEARS now!
