I've been to WineStyles stores in other areas so I thought I knew what to expect but we found a lot more. The lovely lady that was working was best knowledgeable and was able to make a good suggestion for what we were looking for. We chose to stay and share a bottle and a snack. We ordered a large charcuterie board. The cheese served was a good mix. We would have purchased some to go but they couldn't tell us which ones they were. If you are looking for a wine related gift this is the place to be. We could have bought so many things! We stopped at a word magnet set and a card game. Next time I'm in Des Moines I know where to get some cute gift shopping done! read more

Pandemic gotchu down?? Wine styles to the rescue! Walked in recently to grab one item. Easy to find help and get what you need. They have a large selection of all wine and beer related inventory. Gift items, trinkets, and such also there. Wine styles offers virtual wine education classes. Nice date night option for the bored and cooped up. You can find them advertised in store or on Facebook. Classes run once or twice a month. Mr W and I decided to do something different and this fulfilled that unique experience. We did one with beer and wine. $25/person before tax. We ordered two. Since this was our first time we had no idea that we could have ordered for one. The wine samples were in mini bottles that contained maybe an ounce. The rest of our order were in cans. It was a good deal! Classes are streamed on a public live Facebook video. 1 hour long. This can be viewed later for another time. Picked up the supplies the day of the event at the store. The ease of picking up the supplies was SUPER easy. Curbside was offered and each employee was masked. I did the research to do all this myself and buy supplies on my own but found Winestyles education classes to offer the convenience of getting a wine tasting done at home without having to shop all over town and research. I recommend if looking for an alternative boredom killer. The guys that teach are ok. Educational with a side of fry gentlemen's humor. Mr W enjoyed the guys and interacted with them online during the class. If that's you're style, you may enjoy being apart of these online video happenings. Might do it again during this pandemic. We stopped in here because the operating room 6clised for a private event. All kinds of cute little sayings and wine sort of things. we thought about having a drink, but nothing I would have liked. If you like wine, you'd have been fine, wine, wine and more wine! So the gal working sent us over to beer styles, they're sister store. She was a very nice young lady. WineStyles in West Des Moines is so wonderful! We absolutely love Fondue night. You get cheese and chocolate fondue for just $20. It is so good to eat fondue with bottles of wine. The staff are super helpful and very attentive. Last night we we met the owner and had a lovey chat with her. She is warm, funny and very genuine. I really like to do business with owners that are so deserving and it is even better when they have a superb product too. I highly recommend this place for gifts or for a wide range of very thoughtful wines and beers. You will not be disappointed, promise! read more

This is a great find! Tucked into the West Glen Town Center, along with the Beer Styles Gastropub, this is a cozy and friendly wine tasting bar and wine store. The selection of wines offered is impressive and interesting because most of the offerings are from smaller wineries that are not often seen. The staff is knowledgeable, and they organize the store by taste profiles rather than just varietal - an interesting approach. The food menu is simple it but it all compliments the wine nicely. We had pizzettes that were excellent, even by our Northeast pizza snob standards! All in all, Winestyles is a relaxing and informal place to learn about and enjoy wine. Highly recommended. read more

I love winestyles. The staff is super knowledge and friendly. We were in the west Glenn area for the night and stopped for a glass of wine. Unfortunately their kitchen was closed for the night however they did bring us a bowl of crackers. The waiter helped us pick our wines. I was looking for a wine similar to one I had in Denver recently and thought this would be a good place to start. Catherine was very helpful, and although we didn't find the wine I was looking for, she did connect me with a different one that had also peaked my interest. I was invited to the wine tasting that evening, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting a chance to experience new wines and new flavors. This has been a great discovery for me, and I plan to be back often to continue my wine exploration. I cannot say enough good things about the friendly staff and the wonderful atmosphere! read more

The fact that this is not a #1 hotspot in the DSM area is a shame! Go here, now! To start - super lovely staff. No pressure at all to buy- the staff is available when you want them & leave you alone the rest of the time. Perfect. The wines are (surprisingly) very affordable. The store does have several more expensive varieties, but overall the average price is $15-$25. There is a great description for each label, and I found that helpful for my indecisiveness. In addition to wine, the store has ample gifts, fine cheeses, craft beers, and a great chocolate/bakery area. You can buy by the bottle or buy the glass for several varieties. I went with 3 others and we bought 2 bottles of red with some cheese and preserves for a delicious time. The store does have some "menu" items: think light sandwiches & side items to accompany the wine tastings. From what I understand, the store has a fabulous wine club and weekly tastings. Ambience is perfect- this is in the West Glen area which has a lot of understated luxury. Wine Styles fits in perfectly. Go now! read more

I went here for gourmet Mac and cheese night with a baby, friend, and my sister . We were all very excited initially. However, we did not have a good time. When we came in, no one said hi or greeted us even though we were walking around the entire restaurant looking for seating options. When we sat down, no one served us for 10 minutes and I had to spot someone down to get us drinks. Everyone else got served before us -- even a table by us that came after us. I had to walk up to the cash register to ask someone for a menu and then just gave them our order since no one was serving us. The menu was a little misleading. It stated each entree serves two. The entrees were small and actually only enough for one person. It was good but not amazing, especially with the subpar customer service. I am usually not picky with customer service because I'm empathetic about how stressful food service can be, but we weren't even acknowledged or treated as if we existed. What was really frustrating is that we felt like we were a nuisance for having a baby with us. We asked for a baby friendly table or a highchair and we were treated as a burden and they said they couldn't do anything. Despite it being a nice environment and not having tasted the wine yet , we will not come back here again. read more

I love this place. It is a hidden gem in sea of bigger bars and restaurants. It has a laid back but please spend a lot of money feel, which I like. Food comes in perfect sized plates for 1-4 so I can meet friends for Happy Hour, but I prefer to go by myself for some down time. They also have wine related knick knacks that you don't really need but since you drank a few glasses of wine you tell yourself it is a reasonable purchase. This is a neat concept they have a great wine, beer, and cheese selection. However, I can't afford to eat here as often as I'd like. If you've never been and want to give it a try, they have happy hour on Mondays (half of wine, beer on tap, and some food). I probably would never come here for their full price menu. They also have a fondue night that I was excited about; but, ended up being disappointed. The serving is barely suitable for one and they give you a tiny plate of bread. Apparently our party of two were wearing "invisibility cloaks." It was our first time there and we sat at the bar. Place was empty except for two other people at the bar. The bartender nor another employee acknowledge our presence in any fashion. After over ten minutes of this, I was ready to leave but my friend wanted to try the wines. When we were finally graced with our flights, after waiting another 10 minutes, I discovered that 2 out of 4 of my dry whites were completely undrinkable! Perhaps it was because we watched the woman bartender remove every bottle from the fridge to get our wine and those two whites were open in the way back and had been there for a long time? You would think that Wine Styles would understand that white wine can't be left open very long without it turning into swill. After ordering, we went and sat on the patio. We told her about the 2 wines, she unbelievably walked away without a word. Eventually a man who turned out to be the manager brought me 2 fresh sample glasses We told him all that had transpired and he listened in a unconcerned manner. Never again!!!! read more

Let's start with the staff: top notch. I'm sitting here at a business where I can no longer enjoy the products. I've developed an allergy to wine. HOWEVER, I did the purchasing for a wine shop in the past, so I know what to look for here. The selection is fantastic. The have a very large selection of domestic and imported wines. There is a mix of commonly-found labels and some surprising finds. The wines are grouped into "tasting stations" of fruity, mellow, bold, bubbly. There is a section where they have the Wine Club Selections. Besides the wines there is a nice selection of craft beers. They have a build your six-pack program and have seasonal beers. There are 6 draft beers on rotation. Also there is a menu of small plates and you can get a cheese plate while drinking wine. A lot of people were sitting at the bar and the back party room was full. You can purchase different cheeses and wine accessories WineStyles is a great place and I look forward to a return visit! read more

They get a one star bump for having a nice beer selection. My wife and I have been on a few occasions and it's clear that if you aren't a regular, you aren't welcome. Getting service can be near impossible if you aren't a familiar face or a club member. We went for fondue last night and were very disappointed. Cheese fondue came with bread and potatoes. The cheese was cool and way overpriced at $12. Chocolate fondue came with pound cake and strawberries. It was a little warmer, but still overpriced at $12. Overpriced is the theme for food here. We have also have burnt chips and dips in the past for $8. read more

We had a very bad experience at the WineStyles of West Des Moines tonight. We were hoping to dine in for the raclette night. Instead we ended up leaving out of frustration. We arrived and it was completely chaotic - no where near enough tables for everyone there and staff that seemed overwhelmed and under prepared. There was no real direction as to how to order the raclette, just a long line of people waiting for their serving. I found a spot at the bar but the staff member who was working there was very rude, unhelpful, and short with me. I attempted to ask about the raclette and she cut me off. I never really gained any good info from her. She just gave me a number and told me to wait - no idea on how long the wait time and no offers to grab me or my friends a drink while we waited. We decided to leave for another restaurant. Very disappointing. read more

I live in Chicago and wanted to take my clients in Des Moines wine-tasting. I found Wine Styles online, called the shop to inquire about wine tastings, and the owners Brian and Andrea could not have been more welcoming and easy to work with. I had a group of ten tasters who came away having really enjoyed the experience. The owners put out a lovely spread of artisan cheeses, prosciutto and crackers for us to munch on while sipping six different varietals of wine - three white and three red. Went in yesterday around 4pm, there were only two men at the bar who had already been served. Girl behind the bar, I believe her name is Catherine, ignored the two of us and served a girl who came in after us. She then started working on something else without acknowledging us at all. One of the men sitting at the bar got her attention for us and asked her to serve us, and she replied that she had to run some cheese back to the kitchen and then would serve us. When she finally took our orders, she acted as though it was a chore and moved at a snails pace to prepare our wine flights. When we received our flights, two of the white wines had turned. When we brought this to her attention after tasting them, she was uncaring and acted like we were bothering her by simply asking her to do the minimum requirements of her job. I have personally been there multiple times as we live in the area, and she is never overly stellar. However, this time was just plain awful and it is unfortunate to not be able to return to a place that is so convenient and close to our home. read more
