I love this idea! The store offers 100 wines that cost under $25 a bottle. Many of the wines are quite a bit less than that ceiling. It's a great way to try lots of different varieties at a low-ish cost. The shop offers flights and tastings at reasonable prices as well. Most of all, Vino 100 serves as a great, approachable place to get schooled in the ways of wine. This is definitely the best wine shop I've been into. The displays are set up with a bar graph ranging from dry to fruity, and light to full bodied. So as long as you have a basic idea of what that means, you can choose your wine without having to ask advice. In addition to a great wine selection, they have a small stock of excellent craft beer, mainly from Dogfish Head Brewery. The beer isn't chilled, so you'll have to plan ahead if you want to drink it anytime soon. read more

Wines are arranged so similar levels of sweetness/dryness are located together, so it's easy to play the "if you liked this, try that" game. Great concept, I must say, and when this place opened, I was thrilled. We hosted an engagement party here for my boyfriends brother and his fiancé and it was absolutely perfect! Tina and the staff were so quick to reply, were upfront with all costs and capabilities of the venue and when we showed up they had set the entire upstairs area up for us with candles lit and tables covered, we hardly had to do anything else! This has been an unparalleled experience compared to some Columbus venues that let you rent out their space, and holds more (35) than other as well! I've been frequenting Wine on High since it was Vino 100 and wish we still lived in the neighborhood, so we could stop in more often! Many birthdays have been celebrated here and it was my first choice on a location for my birthday party just last weekend (my first in Ohio after a 3.5 year stint in Florida)! She was extremely responsive and super helpful in determining the right amount of food to order and a good mix of tastes. The staff in the night of the party, Eric and Jeremy, were great! They were friendly, made great suggestions, and prompt with service. Vino 100 is a very nicely laid-out wine shop. It's got a great concept (100 bottles that cost less than $25). It's got a great location. The owner seems like an incredibly nice woman. Even considering all this -- I would never suggest that anyone should ever shop here. Vino 100 carries just a few more than 100 wines at any given time (not all are under the $25 price). In a retail shop, 100 just isn't that many labels to choose from. Secondly, while most of the bottles offered are $25 or less, it should be noted that a vast majority of wine made in the world can be had for less than $20 a bottle. Add to this the fact that I have regularly seen bottles priced lower at competing wine stores. This isn't to suggest that Vino 100 over-inflates their prices, just that they aren't able to offer the same kind of savings that one can find elsewhere. The wine-buying business has a lot to do with what the wholesale price of a wine is, which can change drastically over the course of a year. They have tastings, which is nice, but so do many other wine stores -- and for less than the $2 a pour price that Vino 100 charges. The information displayed for the wines is generally not very useful, and it has been my experience that the staff aren't that knowledgeable about wine. We just had our Work Christmas Party at Wine on High, and we had a FANTASTIC time! We were able to easily reserve the upstairs loft just for us, had fantastic service (he really kept the wine and water flowing!) and being able to have food brought in was a huge plus. I have passed this store by so many times convinced that it was going to be less winery and more of a snobbery. Even though it rarely happens I am really pleased to admit I was wrong. On a Sunday night before cooking a fish dinner my guy and I were depressed that there were no stores open in which to buy a great bottle of champagne. Accepting we were going to have to Asti it yet again I used my 411 to just see if Vino 100 was open. Well, they weren't but the person who answered the phone told us she would be happy to open up for us if we could get there within fifteen minutes. After a little hustle we walked in to the best store we have never been too. Not only did they have my Sofia ( I am a victim of the wrapping of this bottle) but the assistant poured and explained several other choices of the champagne variety. I thought I had one too many tastes because the wines they offer are cheap. Real cheap. But rich in selection and variety. Instead of just one we bought two bottles of champagne being so impressed by the taste. Offering a taste before you buy is such a nice service for a wine amateur like myself. I can't tell you how many times I have been convinced I have picked a smashing bottle only to get home and realize I bought alcoholic vinegar. To aid the novice, the wines are labeled with detailed descriptions. Categorized with a bar graph to display the fruit/dry aspects was the only graph this math loser could understand. The descriptions themselves are pretty simple. They are not set up to sell the wine so much as they are to describe it. Because who really understands what a "vanilla flavor with rich almond tones accented by an old vine grape" is going to taste like in real life? I could pretend that I get that, but 2009 is going to be a year of honesty, and apparently great wines. Vino 100 has this great wine club deal going on. For forty dollars you get two bottles of wine a month and fifteen percent off any non-wine item in the store. Considering the store boasts wines under twenty five dollars, its quite a deal. Plus the store offers weekly wine tastings, bartenders on the weekends, and free pours of just about anything there. Good times! The staff were super nice considering we were there after hours. Josh walked us through both levels of the store and gave us lots of great suggestions. There was no rush, no pressure, just five people chatting about wines after hours on a rainy night. After we'd made our purchases we did a round of introductions and we were told to ask for any of them the next time they came in. The loft is a cozy place to take time sipping some wine and maybe try the cheese plate! The space is very small with about 5 tables so it could be crowded depending on when you go. I went there Friday night and it was perfectly fine - it was a cold night and not many people were out. I split a bottle of wine off the menu with my boyfriend. You can also choose a bottle from downstairs and they will open it for you with a fee. The bartender was friendly and I will definitely stop by again sometime. read more

I reserved the loft at Wine on High for a bachlorette party this past Sunday. It was so amazing, and the service was top-notch from beginning to end. There wasn't anything that the staff there wouldn't do for us. They catered in a meal for us to have lunch there with our wine tasting. They also got us custom made cookies in our Bride's theme colors, with a special bride and groom cookie in the mix too. We were also looking for a good favor to pass out to our bridesmaids and the bride, and they were able to get us personalized wine charms for each girl. They were responsive, and always willing to go the extra mile to make sure our party was fun and special. Even the TV was tuned to wedding shows! Like I said, top-notch A+ service (and the food and wine was really great too). I've been here a handful of times to have a casual glass of wine with friends, and it has always been fun, great wine selection and classy atmosphere. The upstairs bar area is a little small and the bartenders always seem to be doing their own thing, and we never feel super welcome there like a normal bar. A few weekends ago, a friend and I went to pick up a bottle of wine for the evening on one Saturday at 12:30 pm (door said they open at 11am on Saturday) and nobody was there. We waited out front for 20 minutes, as a few other people came to get wine bottles for the evening as well and ended up walking away. We asked the people at Hubbard grille if they knew where the employee was to open the store, and they could not get ahold of her. So it was disappointing and unprofessional to be over 2 hours late to open your store on a busy Saturday afternoon on High Street. The wine and service has always been ok, but I'm not in a huge hurry to go back if I'm not sure if they will be there during open hours or not. read more
