Loved this place. I stopped in because they had raw milk. This country store has such a great selection of flours and local meats. I love this. I got my raw milk and it was delicious. I also grabbed some harder to find Bob's Red Mill flours. The people were kind at the register. Friendly, good selection, local. Please stop here and keep them going! Great place. read more

Finally stopped here after driving by many times. Wow, wish I had stopped before now this place is wonderful. They have so many great items . All sorts of preserves, unusual spices, frozen local meat and chicken , fresh fruit and veggies, candy , ice cream ..this is a great place to get a gift of local food beautifully packaged and presented. I went in for local peaches and propound came out with so much more . This is definitely a destination for good fresh local groceries. The person who waited on me was great gave me a recipe for pear jam . Looking forward to my next visit. read more

Fabulous farm market- I can't say enough good things about it. We stopped on a rainy Sunday for strawberries, got transfixed by the pickles, relishes, preserves, and the home-grown meats. The woman was sweet, hoped we'd come back again. (Absolutely!) Can't wait until their corn comes in. Have already tried the pickled beets and buffalo pickled eggs. Each 10/10. We will be back to fill our freezer. What a treasure of a place! read more

This place is AWESOME! Why? Because it's not just a farm stand. It's like an old time candy store and a farm stand had a really cool baby. They had a TON of jarred, pickled items. From fiddleheads, dilly beans, and garlic beautifully displayed, to jams and jellies. They had frozen, local meat, including bison and lamb. Locally made chicken pot pie and apple pie. Rock candy, horehounds, licorice, Bit-O-Honey, and red hots. Local maple syrup, honey, and eggs. They also had every Bob's Red Mill package ever made. The selection was better than most grocery stores in the area... Gluten free and a variety of different types of alternative flours. The list went on and on. They even sold mulch hay for your garden! I was so impressed by the variety and amount of product they had inside the seemingly tiny store. This was a small operation done right. I would stop here to get groceries and make a point to do it. read more

We have been shopping at Windy Hill Farm for years. The ground lamb and the ground beef are both so lean and fine ground. We never buy our meat anywhere else. the Amish butter is the only butter we buy...it's expensive but simply wondrous!!! The homemade apple butter reminds me of childhood, and the canned peaches are the closest thing I have found since my Mom was canning her own. just had their sweet corn and sweet Italian sausage yesterday, exclaiming how delicious with every bite. read more

The lamb chops - at $16.95 a pound contained at least 1/4 fat. And I'm being kind in that assessment. Owner has a horrible attitude and a mask that won't stay on. Don't expect a thank you when you leave and you must ask for a bag. The eggs - my only experience was $4.50 a dozen and I only got 10 eggs which were very very light in yolk color. No taste. Never again. I've been there several times because the lamb is great - but the greed they display and fat of the loins made me get the fact I was being screwed. read more

I've really been thinking a lot about the meat I buy and where it comes from. I was driving back to Portland on the river road thinking about dinner and realizing that many of my usual stops to buy local were closed and was kind of dreading ending up at Whole Foods...The sign for Windy Hill Farm Market came up on my left and instead of driving right past as I had done countless times before, I turned in. Right inside the entrance to the right are a bunch of freezers with packages of local meats of all sorts. I was a day early for the chicken delivery, but there were still a lot of beef, pork, bison and lamb choices. I ended up picking out some sweet italian sausage for the grill. There was very little produce, which is completely understandable as it was Memorial Day weekend, but there were potatoes and carrots which I grabbed on the way out. I also bought a frozen pre made peach pie for my husbands birthday. The rest of the shop seemed to be mostly pickled things, jams and candy. We roasted the potatoes and carrots and grilled the sausage when we got home and WOWZA! The sausage were as good as the ones I had bought at the Otherside Deli in Portland, which had previously been the best sausages I had ever eaten. I had never really noticed that red potatoes have a distinct flavor and that I actually might like carrots until the batch from Windy Hill Farm Market. Now for the pie. A super buttery and flaky crust filled with fresh peaches. Perfection! Pretty impressive huh! Can't wait to return when the produce is in full summer harvest! read more

I came across this place trying to find another short cut home to Gray. (Side note, there is no short cut to Gray. Don't try. You will fail.) Traffic was a bit backed up on River Road in Windham for construction, and my car was stopped in front of this market. It was the perfect excuse to stop in. Signs on the front door talked about fresh chickens every Tuesday and their own cuts of meat. If you are looking for a place to get local meats - this may be for you. I did not buy any, but it looked promising. I went inside and found a great mix of a farm stand and the cute little country store of jams, sauces, penny candy and other food stuff. There is an Amish influence to some of the food items they carry. I had a hard time limiting what I was going to buy, but my final selection was summer squash, a chicken pot pie (which was so flipping good. I have never had that flavorful of a crust on a pot pie!), peach butter (similar to apple butter), a mix of peanut butter and marshmallow fluff; and pretzels (to put that peanut butter fluff goodness on... yeah. No regrets). The woman working there was the sweetest - exactly what you would expect and want in someone working at this kind of market. Windy Hill Farm Market would be a perfect place to get some local meats and produce - but also, a great place to find gifts. If you need something small or something to add to a basket - it would lend it self well to finding some unique items. Stonewall Kitchen is fantastic - but it is a known commodity. Why not stop somewhere and find some more obscure items. Like peach butter! Never heard of it! I want to try it with some brie. Yeah, it's going to happen. Dreams come true, folks. read more

I happened to be going a way home that I don't normally take, and despite the store being located in my hometown, I had never thought to stop by. I sure am glad that I did this time though, because this is the perfect farm stand - plus soooo much more! Ranging to fresh grown vegetables, fruit, and eggs to local meat to even candy, jams, and canned goods (REAL canned, not those tin replicas one buys in the supermarket.) Plus as per the season, pumpkins and gourds galore! Lastly I saw that they had a lot of Bob's Red Mill products, which one oft has to visit out of the way specialty stores to find. We had a T-bone steak from here, a gift from our daughter and her boyfriend, and it was out of this world! It was one of the best tasting and most tender steaks we have ever tasted. We had frozen it, and we used the skillet and oven method to slow-cook it frozen tonight -- amazing! I definitely want to get more meat from this place! Well-done! read more

I live down the road from Windy Hill, and we shop there regularly. Always a selection of seasonal veggies and root veggies. The selection of locally raised meat is impeccable. I hate to recommend the baby back ribs, for fear that people will get wise to them and they will run out! Want to talk about meaty, deliciousness! Yes, locally grown, responsibly raised meat is a little more expensive, but it make you eat a more healthy portion, and in the end, the cost per meal is comparable to over-eating a lesser cut that cost more. They always have an excellent selection of canned goods and candy, as well as quick meals for the crock pot. If you get a chance to try the hand-rolled Amish style butter, you won't be disappointed. It is my understanding that this style of butter has less water in it and so you get more butter for your buck. Yes, it is more expensive, but you will find yourself eating less and being equally satisfied, and again, the cost per serving ends up being comparable to over-eating a lesser quality product. Excellent selection of beef, pork, chicken, bison, and lamb, as well as locally made pies. Glad to live so close, as we can enjoy something from Windy Hill any day of the week! read more

Wonderful organic farm store. I go in for the eggs and meat. the best organic meat you will find anywhere. Their ham steaks are to die for and the bison burgers are simply delicious. They have their own honey too and a great array of Amish products. read more
