A terrific selection of instructional books and sheet music for those instruments. And just about any accessories you might need (strings, straps, resin, etc.). You can ask for references or get a CD of his recitals which he'll happily provide to any skeptical prospective students. I've known him all my life and I cannot remember a time when the piano was a difficult skill for him. He is truly talented musician. Unlike others who are talented and can't understand why piano is difficult, Phillip knows how to explain the concepts and identify why a person is having trouble. He has a very results oriented method to teaching that differs from typical, stodgy approaches approaches. There are two things that clearly identify his talent in helping students learn this skill. 1) A recent recital had students of all ages (5-85) happy to show their skill in public. Some had only been taking lessons for 1 month. They all were able to complete a full song - of their choosing - and show well in public. 2) His students are happy both going into and coming out of the lesson. It is clear that Phillips enthusiasm is contagious. He knows how to get kids to embrace the joy of the instrument and that ultimately encourages them to practice and improve their skill. 3) He is extremely good with kids of all ages. He recognizes that you are asking him to provide a service. He spends time getting to know his students, what they are trying to accomplish and how to get them to that ability to accomplish this goal. The one downside that I would mention is that due to the popularity of his lessons, he does tend to be fairly booked. That said, I know he works really hard to fit all students in.

Fortunately, the majority of the staff are great, helpful, friendly and even have conversations on mutual recommendations. Also, credit must be given to one individual who has made up for an incident that goes beyond terrible service to neglectful, but the manager took care of that and he has proven to be more hospitable. They always encourage me to try out equipment that they truly think I'll dig. I just refuse to take advantage of their generous nature unless I'm able to make an actual purchase. I have made some exceptions however. I do wish their return policy wasn't so tight, but it's a simple case of "People ruining thing's for everybody else" that have compelled them do so. Great conversations, great prices. Anybody who is criticizing their price range I am compelled to ask where are you finding better? (Aside from one store that specializes in USED gear) Money's tight our economy is in shambles and these guys are doing the very best that they can to keep their stock affordable. We were able to touch and play anything we wanted and the store employee Rob was out of this world helpful. He seemed to genuinely care about the instruments and the people he sold them to. He showed my son a few tricks for his newly purchased mandolin and he even made sure it was tuned perfectly for us before we left. We had such a good experience in this place, we made sure to visit it twice while we were in Ottawa. If you're an officionado of music, this is the place to go!!! If we ever come back to Ottawa, we will definitely come back here.
