A gorgeous estate property. Thank you to Seth who gave my friends and I a private barrel tasting. The wines were great and the ambiance was 10/10!!! A gorgeous place and can't wait to come back!

This was stop three on our El Dorado wine tasting adventure and we'd had one hit and one miss. Windwalker was in the latter category. The owners seemed geared up to have us taste everything they had open, whether we enjoyed Chardonnay or hated it or wanted to try the Sangiovese first or last. As soon as we got our glasses, they started pouring from the first bottle in a line of at least a dozen. They seemed very disappointed when we said we'd like to pick and choose which wines we wanted to try. I tried a decent 2005 Sauvignon Blanc and a 2004 Syrah, which was kinda meh. I was having trouble keeping myself from inhaling the sun-dried tomato cheese dip and crackers on the tasting bar, so I had to step outside for a while. (I'm still paying for eating all that cheese at Exhale last week. Lactose intolerance sucks.) I wasn't impressed with this place, but the prices were fairly reasonable. And while I found the wine not particularly memorable, Christy enjoyed and purchased the 2003 Lady in Red. The nicest part of the winery is the pretty picnic area outside the tasting room, where I forgot to take a picture (of course.)

If you can't enjoy yourself here, you're a misanthrope! The wine is amazing, the staff are knowledgable, and the atmosphere is surreal.

But the tasting room is open and spacious. We came for the Pinot Noir, but found only one in the tasting. Grenache Blanc, Grenache, Barbera, and Syrah were our other sips. We needed a prepaid reservation. Corn hole and bocce ball areas are also at the tasting room site. Private parking are.

It's unassuming from the front exterior, but we were pleasantly surprised by how sleek it is inside. And that wine cave for members with the enormous antique bar and handcrafted walnut tables? Simply gorgeous. Although everything I have tried on my visits here has been quite good, the real star at E16 is the award-winning pinot noir, which is also nearly impossible to find in this region! If you talk to the owner, Robert, you'll quickly learn that pinot is his passion (I can totally relate) and his partnerships with revered vineyards throughout California are how he's getting such delicious pinot noir to Fairplay. I've now been twice to the tasting room with friends, including most recently during Passport weekend, and each time have had a terrific experience. I bought a couple of bottles of their pinot and am also seriously considering joining their wine club. E16 is like a slice of Napa (without all the pretentiousness) dropped right in the heart of Fairplay and I am all about it. Definitely stop in and try the wines!

The only time to do it is when I feel strongly that something is wrong. Not even the panoramic view can save Skinner anymore, and that used to be my favorite part. The wine is not as good as it used to be, either. Customer service has gone downhill over the years and is now some of the worst I've ever experienced in my life. If you have mobility issues of any kind, please be warned before coming here. This was our last stop during this year's Passport weekend a few months ago. I know, why didn't I review before? I should have. I don't have an excuse other than being behind in my reviewing as a way of life on Yelp. I was also and continue to be embarrassed. Reading this might cause second hand embarrassment, fair warning. I have been having ongoing back (sciatica) issues which can make it painful to stand or walk for prolonged periods, and I was really going through it on the day I was last here. So, I decided to use the handrail and try to go down the stairs to the tasting area. I really should have used the ramp (I did on my way out, undaunted), but instead slowly made my way down the stairs trying not to wince. I probably just looked like another drunk fat girl having trouble with stairs. And in fact, I did indeed to one staff member in particular. She clearly knew nothing about wine, and one wonders why she even found herself working here. When pouring for me and my friends, she gave me a tiny pour in comparison. I know I probably looked down at it and frowned, being tired, in pain, and wondering uhhh why? Her response to this was to laugh loudly at me and tell me that I was clearly drunk walking down the stairs like that and didn't need anymore wine. She was watching me, she said. (Watching me struggle down the stairs. What a nice person.) She continued to laugh thinking she was so funny and superior. Yikes on bikes. Girl, when I tell you I was shocked I mean I was stunned silent. I didn't know what to say or do. Not only did I feel embarrassed for myself but I felt embarrassed for her. Why would you do that to someone? Someone you don't know? My friends were kind and distracting and made me feel better, and I didn't want to cause a scene so I didn't say much of anything else to her. I just wanted her to go away, to be frank. I know she couldn't know what I was feeling if I didn't say so but you know what? It does not matter. What she did was not only hideously rude and unprofessional. It. was. dangerous. You do not. discourage someone. from using mobility or accessibility aids. The way they were intended. Ever. For any reason. That is what they are there for. Drunk or not, which I was not. But even if I was. People like me who have only started recently to experience mobility issues are in an especially vulnerable adjustment period, and the last thing we need is to think about our pride and how someone might make fun of us if we decide to use a railing the way it was intended. And not just a random someone at that. A person this winery employs. This was an incredibly unsafe, terrible experience that I never wish to relive, and I hope nobody else, abled or otherwise, encounters this. Skinner, this was completely unacceptable. No, I don't know her name, but she was incredibly rude, loud, and the least knowledgeable person I've ever encountered at a winery.
