It has a master baker accomplished in his craft. A Mr Edward's. It has a range of breads and cakes with delightful scones, pies, tarts, flans and fresh cream treats.
I do like this place as I can get some delights that aren't loaded with chemical rubbish. I can get florentine biscuits that are made with butter not that bloody awful margarine and no palm oil in sight.
They do sell food with these cheaper ingredients priced accordingly but at least there's a choice and as prices keep rising folks will either go for the foods cheapened by chemicals and adulterated with white sugar or do without.
The staff are always helpful and with any home bakery the smells just lift your mood.
I once met a master baker. Well I met him more than once. He is Joe Marino who became a trade union leader. He even has a Wiki page.
It's a long time since I've spoken to him but I've never forgotten him telling me that when he started as a baker of breads he would rise at 2am and start work mixing flour, adding yeast, rolling, punching, proving, living dough and it took about 7 hours to produce real bread. Bread you would enjoy eating.
But once the mega bakeries came to be and 4 mega bakeries ended up serving almost all of the UK he said the process starting from raw ingredients, pushing buttons to the baked white pan took 27 minutes. Bread he noted accurately with no goodness, no texture, no flavour and not a good eat and needs flour treated with anti mould chemicals. Apparently this is called progress but it isn't. It's corporate greed with the sole aim of making lots of money for shareholders. Bring back master bakers and craft bakeries. read more
