Ok, so I visited this North Belfast newbie today and there were a few things I loved about it and a…read morefew things I really didn't like. I start with things I loved... It seems to be a bit of a a jack of all trades, serving Ice Cream, coffees of all varieties, hot food and sandwiches. This is just what the Antrim Road needed! I went for the Caesar Salad - it was perfection. The salad was fresh and it was served with crunchy croutons, bacon and huge chunks of chicken, even the small amount of cheese wasn't too strong! FOOD = GREAT. The decor of Sylvester's is also great, it's bright and airy with plenty of natural light coming in. The walls are adorned with art and there's exposed brick work to give that rustic feel. There's also a row of outside seating, perfect for when the sun has it's hat on. So here's what I really didn't like.... When my food came I wasn't given any cutlery, I kind of thought that it was one of those places that you helped yourself so I got up and started searching for some, but couldn't find any. I eventually grabbed a member of staff and got sorted out. I sat at the back of the restaurant and I could clearly hear the chefs shouting and swearing. I didn't mind too much but there were a few kids within earshot. I know chefs like to have a bit of banter etc in the kitchen but I suggest getting a thicker door in between the seating area and the kitchen. The coffee was ok, I got an americanno and it was quite bland. No real kick. Only £2 though so that wasn't too bad. Overall I'd say this place has a bright future, conveniently located for me. Really well staffed too so once they iron out the teething problems I'll give it another go!

Today I tried to prove her wrong but the next thing I knew I was in a bakery queue, I think I blacked out, who knows?! The Antrim Road was crying out for a bakery/sit in deli like this and judging by the queues today the locals have already taken this place to their hearts. There's an exceptional take out selection which is clearly displayed on the wall. It can be tricky going to a new place and deciding what to get but I was sold on the Italian Style Panini with Salami, chorizo, pesto and mozzarella. These are pre made and ready to be toasted so you don't even have to wait around for the staff to combine the ingredients. I was really impressed with the quality of the food, fresh, flavoursome and incredibly delicious. Cheap too - at £3.75 I felt like I was robbing them. I'm in love with this new bakery and I can't wait to lazily amble up the Antrim Road on a Sunday morning and chill out in the lovely surroundings. It's a perfect 5 from me! I mean what's not to like? It's convenient, quick, cheap and really well thought out!

They have a great selection of buns and tray bakes and Yes, we did have one but shared it as they where quite substantial. They also do a takeaway service as typical home bakery produce. Filled soda's, sandwiches and baps are availible to take out and very reasonable! So around about £2.50 to £3.00 . They where non stop and it was nice that the sit in area was a little bit separate from the take away so it didn't feel overcrowded. With the prices and the quality of food I can see why they are non stop. Always a good sign for any coffee shop.

To me Harlem cafe's decor is gothic style, dark but cosy with twinkling lights and candles, the food is great and I recommend the french toast with berries and maple syrup. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Harlem cafe is a popular place and very busy and the only negative i will say is that there isn't much space between tables so you really have to squeeze past to go to the toilet or wherever. Also its not a cheap place but I would say its worth the price as the food is great, the atmosphere and ambiance is great and the staff are lovely.

But worth stopping in. Once inside, the space opens up and is very welcoming. I ordered the green eggs on toast, and it was delicious (the sausages are an add-on, and in hindsight was unnecessary). The poach was perfect, and that green sauce is divine! But... I hope you brought some dental floss or a toothpick, because you will surely have embarrassing green bits stuck in your teeth otherwise. Top quality brekkie! The OJ tasted fresh with bits of pulp in it (although they do pour it from a jug in their fridge) and the latte is of a good quality. Not busy on a Monday morning. Staff friendly, and chatty with some of the delivery people, who I assume they see on a regular basis. If in Belfast for an extended period of time, would not hesitate to dine here again.
