Stevensons is a traditional, home bakery that, aside from bread of course, does a decent line in meat pies, custard tarts, traybakes including large rice crispie biscuits, pancakes, potato bread etc.
As with bakeries in general, it is best to be there in the morning as by 3pm or so much of the best bread has gone.
Next door, and under the same name of Stevensons there's a greengrocer, the only one where I've seen watermelons during the summer. I bought some delicious nectarines here, much better than supermarket ones and they do nice looking bunches of fresh herbs for soup, amongst all the usual potatoes and other vegetables. It's all fresh and good - anyway, I'm always a fan of small greengrocers, I'm convinced they're usually better than supermarket stuff when you get time to shop in one. read more
