One of the few home bakeries left. This place has been here for a long time. You just can't beat…read morewalking into a bakery in the morning and being greeted by the aroma of freshly baked Belfast baps and sausage rolls. A bap, for those of you from farther afield, is soft bread that is crusty at the top. The shape is hard to describe - starts at the bottom in a generally square shape which, slightly higher up, ascends into a dome shape. It's a bit like the dome at the top of the city hall, except it's not quite as big and thankfully it's not green. Aside from that you have a whole array of buns and fresh cream cakes, which for some reason nowadays seem to be called tray bakes, pastries, and gateaus. Apple cakes are still a local favourite from here. A cup of tea and a scone, or a sausage roll bap followed by a bun, are always in supply here and are always a welcome bundle if calling round to a relative's. Try it out if you've never been. Hopefully this long established family bakery will be able to resist the squeeze of the large retail chains and be rotting our teeth for many years to come.

With all its products being freshly prepared on the premises you always know what to expect from Smyth's, which is usually a full stomach and a hankering for another cream bun! I normally use Smyth's at lunch time and it is an ideal place for me to pick up a sandwich and sausage roll on my way home after a swim in the local leisure centre. Apart from this it also offers a delicious range of buns, pastries, cakes and breads to have your mouth watering and the need to go for an extra workout to burn off the pounds after devouring their scrumptious foods!

Among other things there is high quality bacon and locally produced smoked salmon. All sortsof specialised ingredients are likely to be here with things you don't find often such as the Canadian Clover Crest honey which I bought. The only trouble for me is that Arcadia is so far away up the traffic laden Lisburn Road though the longish opening hours are helpful. Mind you, perhaps it is just as well as I'd be overspending far too much.

Arcadia is quite possibly one of the best finds I have had the pleasure of discovering while…read morewriting my reviews. I'm not up on my deli / speciality foods, nor do I know my Perches from my Pollocks (apparently types of fish...yeah, I didn't know that either) but even I realised the extent of Arcadia's wonderfulness. Plus they sell American sweets. No longer was I interested in the Snappers or the Sea Breams (yep, more fish), the Gruyere or the Gouda (cheese this time)...I eyes were solely fixed on the sweetie selection. Picking up a packet of peanut butter M&Ms (I don't like peanut butter, nor do I like M&Ms), the feeling of the novelty of purchasing something that is so highly sought after over here overcame me. And so, they were bought for the grand price of £1.49. My sister, on the other hand, eyes popping out of her head, was visibly distressed by the varied and unusual choice of confectionery which lay before her. Well, Willy Wonka was the lucky man this particular day, and she selected a packet of 'Wonka Nerds'. And now I am officially going to immigrate to the USA. Ohhh, these are good. These are really, really good. Tiny drops of wild cherry and watermelon explode with flavour the moment you pop them in your mouth and start chewing. It's been nice knowing you all...I'll see you on the other side. (Of the ocean).

If the answer to this question is 'No' then I am extremely envious and if the answer is 'Yes' you'll know there's only a few things that can cure a feeling like this. One is a big greasy fry and the other is of course a gallon of coffee. With the former requiring too much effort, yesterday I opted for a big old coffee. Not feeling the best I decided that I would keep things simple and go to a chain, you sort of know what you are going to get from Costa and I didn't want to shock the senses any more than I had to. This Costa is at the entrance of the Kennedy Centre and seems to be one of their flagship stores. There's a large seating area (if you can face making eye contact on a Sunday morning) and the queue moves at lightening fast speed. Yesterday I went for a strong flat white costing £2.45 - a decent price for a decent coffee. One thing I noticed about this store was the huge selection of cakes (see picture) - I'm not sure why but it almost doubles up as a bakery. Although yesterday I decided to swerve getting any baked good ness for fear of it being wasted. All in all a really good Costa and a lifesaver on a Sunday - next time you're in the Kennedy Centre doing the 'big shop' I suggest you park up your probably wonky trolley and grab a cup of joe in comfortable surroundings.

Love me some coffee! However...first time I went here I made…read morethe mistake of not specifying it to be skinny...they use only red or blue milk...it came with blue...yuck!
