I've been to the recently opened shop on Botanic avenue to browse what this little place has to…read moreoffer but hadn't actually bought anything until my last trip to St George's Market. There is a lot of stiff competition among bakery and baked goods stalls in the market so most who survive really have to put themselves out there with either a catchy niche or gap in the market, or in this case produce some of the highest quality baked thingys to be had in this city. The bakery does the usual array of sweet and savoury, the sweet being the most impressive. Glazed buns, chocolate cakes, chewy American style cookies which rival Big Ted's available close by and any number of muffins, pastries and cupcakes. I tried a fresh cream donut the last time I was there. Coated in a thin layer of close to sickly sweet whit icing and bunged to the rafters with a sweet cream filling. Light, soft and chewy and heavily glazed it was brilliant if I must say. The staff who run the place are fantastic. I was enquiring about the possibility of getting a chocolate cake made to order for a family member's birthday down the line too, which they said would be grand.

I would much rather review this incarnation of the French Village brand than the newly opened cafe…read morein Botanic, where my customer service experiences left something to be desired to say the least! In St George's Market there is a wide range of options, so it takes something special for a stall to stand out, but the sheer quality of the French Village produce has allowed this stand to excel. The stand does a huge rage of all things baked including Muffins & Cupcakes, Pastries, Desserts, Gateau's & Tarts, Soft Chewy Cookies, Speciality Bread, Scones....the list goes on! And everything is crafted with immaculate care and precision. Particular favourite of mine are their scones, which are heaving with fruit, and their Danish pastries, which have just the right amount of cinnamon and beautifully light and flaky pastry. One unusual service but one I think should be highlighted is their Bun on The Run service, which is to do with the noble tradition of bringing your own cake to work on your birthday! You can order your buns and French Village will deliver them for you if you want, and best of all they will give you a free bun for your troubles!

This was an amazing little marketplace we got to discover on our recent trip to Ireland! Open only…read moreon the weekends, this place was ALIVE when we were there. There were tons of people, both locals and tourists, walking around enjoying the food, drinks and items each vendor had to offer here. The place was alive with live music playing, as well as a school group performing dances in one area and a band playing in another area. The vendors were super friendly and we got to try samples of a few different things before we decided to buy a couple things to nibble on while waiting for our hotel to let us check in. There were a ton of different vendors and at this place, I had one of the best bao buns I have ever had, filled with curry chicken! Prices amongst the vendors seemed very reasonable and I ended up buying a couple cute little magnets one vendor had to offer!

The market was very busy, but I did go at lunchtime on a Saturday…read more The first stall I went to had loads of fresh hummus, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, etc. They also had big chunks of focaccia, soda bread, Guinness bread and fresh garlic bagels. At the recommendation of the lovely woman working there, I got the caramelised onion hummus and smothered it all over the garlic bagel (the best thing ever). I also got the sun-dried tomato pesto, which I nearly ate in one sitting. If I lived here, I would be at this stall every week! There were some cute stalls with local vendors selling souvenirs, artwork, and jewellery. There were also quite a few stands with cookies, pastries and sweet treats. These all looked really good. On the other side of the market, there was a lot more hot food. They had everything from tacos, mac and cheese and large portions of fries with various toppings. Everything looked really good and the beef taco from Med Mex was delicious! The sauce was to die for. Definitely worth the visit and might pop back in before I leave!
