They were good and fun. Lorraine ordered the Flat Bread and a salad. She said it was good. Joe ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and chowder. He said the chicken pot pie was really good. I had considered the chicken pot pie but I'm not a fan of mushrooms and Stacie, our server, said there were a lot of mushrooms in it. Stacie was friendly and took good care of us.

I spent the last two nights at The Inn On the Harbour in Port Stanley…read more There are 12 themed rooms on three floors (mine was the "Dusty Rose Green" on the second floor). If you can't do stairs, you should stay on the ground floor as there is no elevator. Since I was the only guest and the receptionist goes home at night, I didn't want to be on the ground floor ... I felt safer being higher up since I was alone. The rooms have king beds, fireplaces, Jacuzzis (I love baths and used mine Tuesday night), complimentary WIFI (I found it slow most of the time) and complimentary parking. There was a coffee maker, kettle, toaster, mini fridge and some dishes in my room. Strange not to have a microwave oven, though. My room rate was $115/night plus taxes. There is no restaurant in the inn, though there are some within walking distance. I went to Barnacles Tuesday night, which was a ten minutes walk away, and KettleCreek last night, which was about a three minute walk away. When I walked into my room, it was welcoming ... the fireplace was going and there was easy listening music playing on the TV. I found it odd, though, that the time on the phone was 9.5 hours slow and the clock radio (which was cheap and should be replaced) was flashing (so not showing any time) and I had to set it. There are no blinds on the window ... just a light green drape. I don't know how well it would keep the sun out if you were trying to sleep during the summer.

A continental breakfast was included but I didn't get a chance to check it out. There are no restaurants within walking distance as this hotel on the outskirts of town (there are tons of restaurants downtown) so I went out and got some take-out pizza and brought it back to my room last night. Parking was free as it WIFI (it was quick). The rooms are nothing fancy but my queen bed was comfy. I had a mini fridge, Keurig coffee machine and or microwave oven. I was on the second floor and as a head's up, there was no elevator. There is construction going on (they are renovating the lobby and entrance way) so you have to go in through the side door.

Needless to say the room smelled. The air condition was so nosily we had to turn it off and it was 30 degrees outside (that 86 Fahrenheit ). To add to the heat and smells the laundry room was open to the hallway so all the heat and laundry smells drifted through the hotel. The free breakfast was OK but the area was way too small and everyone was crowded around tying to get by each other. There was only a few tables so most people when back to their rooms to eat. There is a hotel with an indoor pool if you want to take the family as well. We went in the winter so not much else we could see but it looked like there was more during the summer. When I expressed surprise, the waitress informed me that it's always a buffet and people just know. I'm from out of town and they knew this when they took the booking, so just tell me. We were immediately seated in the 'wine cellar' not the main restaurant. This was down a flight of stairs which I hadn't been informed of. One of our party has mobility issues, so it wasn't a great start. The 'wine cellar' is basically an empty room that I imagine you hire for private parties, very basic with cheap tables, chairs and black tablecloths (not very festive). We were in this room with a large family group with young children and the kids were noisy and touching everything on the buffet table. One group of 3 older adults just left. We stuck it out with one other table of adults and that family. The food was just ok, but as is often the case with buffets, the hot food was at best warm. The mash potatoes and vegetables were borderline cold and utterly unseasoned. The salmon was overcooked and the beef was 'ok'. Desserts were Costco standard and the kids had already attacked them before anyone else even looked at them. This was a complete, dishonest money grab and it's had left a very sour taste literally and metaphorically. I very much liked the restaurant on my last visit, but this felt grubby and mercenary which means I doubt I'll eat there again.

The room had 2 queen sized beds along the left wall, and along the right wall there was a wardrobe, a small desk area with one chair, a dresser, and a small fridge. I found out that the rooms are all the same size, but there were at least 3 other room designs: you could get a room with 1 bed and a sitting area; one bed with sitting area and 2 bathrooms, or a separate bedroom with 1 bath, a sitting room, and a kitchen. For this stay, I wish we had gotten a 1-bed with sitting area, but what we got worked. Staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel is really compact inside. The one thing I missed was a lounging area in the lobby. To gather in larger groups and people-watch. Here they had a couple of couches and a chair in front of the elevator and in between the check in desk and breakfast area. But the staff monitoring breakfast activities sat there until they were needed in the breakfast nook, sometimes drinking their own beverages and talking amongst themselves.
