As I mention in other reviews, ALL reviews need to be taken in the proper perspective, all of 'em! First off as a horse boarding facility, the only way a place can ever be perfect, a 5 star as it were, would be if it was operated for only the benefit of one single boarder, and that same boarder was always there. Seasonally, this place has 25-35 horses and roughly 15 or so owners. Typically, at least half of the horses are former BLM wild Mustangs that were gathered during the various BLM round ups, and then made available for adoption. These horses are then gentled via various exercises, methods and training regimens. Once gentled, many are trained further to be riding horses. This decision to operate the ranch as a specialized facility devoted to promoting greater public knowledge of America's wild horses is a really good one, it benefits horsemen and women, and more importantly the horses themselves. We have a diverse group of horses and owners at Windhorse, many are long term, yet there's always some new faces to keep it interesting. Quarter Horses, Arabs, Morgans, Drafts, Warmbloods all are in, or have been present in the mix. This ranch is located in the hills above and to the East of Sebastopol proper, on the flank of a hillside with a million dollar view. It's usually kind quiet, it's got an arena and round pen, tack room, and several talented trainers available to teach lessons, Western or English. What is referred to as a discipline called Natural Horsemanship is the preferred method for teaching both man and beast here. As I stated in the first paragraph, the only way to achieve perfection in a facility like this would be to operate it for one person only, which obviously isn't practical. For horse owners, and those who are considering horse ownership, particularly those who might like to learn more about our special, American Mustangs, this facility offers much to be praised. Someday, my wife and I will have our own facility, with our horses in our backyard. That facility will be 5 star in our opinion, since it will be built to our exact needs, but in the meantime our 4 horses are all quite happy in the beautiful hills of West Sonoma county. read more
