I have an extremely long, sad story about what Demetri Guidry did to my horse, but I'll give you the short version:
I told him my horse gets very sore when shod too short and requested for him to leave him "long", which he said he would do. I got a call from barn staff (my horse was boarded) telling me that they witnessed Demetri "beating on" my horse and he trimmed him so short my horse refused to walk when they tried to take him out. (This is very abnormal for my horse). I went out and sure enough, his front hooves were severely over trimmed and he had no shoes on his backs. Demetri refused to talk to me about this, but he did take the check I left for him ($180). I put a stop payment on the check (due to him only putting two shoes on and laming him, and refusing to explain to me why he did that) and was waiting until he would finally contact me. (I assumed he would after the stop payment, since he wouldn't any other way). Instead, he trespassed on the board property in the middle of the night and ripped of the front shoes, further crippling my horse.
He admitted he was the one who did this and stated he wasn't sorry because I put the stop payment on the check. I reported him and the sheriff's office has charged him with felony animal abuse and trespassing. It's cost me close to $3K in farrier and vet bills, supplements, and medical supplies to try and get my horse sound. My horse is only 5 and was in perfect health/hoof condition, etc. I'm now suing Demetri as well. Also, he claims he's AFA certified. I contacted them and they assure me he is not. He will lie, cheat, and apparently lame your horse too. After this, and talking to other horse people about it, I have found he has done similar things to countless other people. It's not worth it. There are so many farriers in this county. Please do what I didn't: do your homework and research any farrier (or any type of specialist) before hiring them. I fell for his claims that he is an amazing, certified, gifted farrier. He is all talk. read more
