They compassionately treated one of our does during a miscarriage and most recently took great care of our goats after they accidentally ingested poison. They were efficient, effective and thorough in their response. Every veterinarian and staff member we've encountered has been incredibly kind, knowledgeable and willing to educate. Having a lot of animals, many of them pretty dumb, means unexpected circumstances happen all the…read moretime. Most often with my sheep, because, well sheep are dumb. One of my sheep got her foot stuck, so naturally her instinct was to flop onto the ground and break her leg. Cotati Large Animal put a cast in her which she managed to slip her leg out of. So they took the cast and split it length wise which we then used as a splint. She couldn't get out of it and she made a full recovery. We had a ram with really bad horns that would curl and grow straight into his eyes. Trimming them is a pain in the ass, and it had to be done constantly. Then we had the vet come out for hopefully a permanent solution. Well he just trimmed those horns a lot shorter and they never grew back. Then just recently we one of our ewes gave birth by didn't pass the placenta. The vet came out to our farm on a Sunday, gave antibiotics, did an ultrasound, and checked her out. She's doing well now and we just need to watch her closely. This place is a life saver and these vets are heroes.

We had many years riding the trails in the Berkeley Hills and tonight was very special. He and I both experienced great peace in the beauty of the natural environment- the creek, the trees, the birds. And my heart was reminded that this is why I moved. Gui Gui had been limping for about a week, and on Monday his surgeon referred us to Dr. Fetherston for a definitive diagnosis. Dr. Fetherston's team quickly found an appointment for him on Wednesday. I know he already had several surgeries scheduled that day, and it was an extremely full day for him and his staff. Yet, without hesitation, they made time to take Gui Gui in and care for him. Dr. Fetherston and his team started their day before 8 a.m. and stayed until 7-8 p.m. in order to make sure Gui Gui received the care he needed. Their dedication went far beyond what I could have expected. Gui Gui was diagnosed with septic arthritis, a very serious and potentially life-threatening infection. The team acted quickly and thoroughly, performing X-rays, joint lavage, bacterial cultures, and starting appropriate antibiotics. Thanks to their prompt diagnosis and treatment, Gui Gui was already doing much better the very next day. I truly believe that seeing Dr. Fetherston when we did made a critical difference. Without timely treatment, septic arthritis can progress to a much more serious systemic infection. I am beyond grateful to Dr. Fetherston and every member of his team. It is clear that everyone there genuinely cherishes animals and is wholeheartedly dedicated to helping and saving them. Dr Jan was combative and made personal accusations towards my mom's ability to take care of an elderly, deaf, previously feral cat that she has kept alive and healthy for near twenty years. My mom went in with a simple concern about her cat's loud meowing- as we have long ago noticed she is deaf. She only wanted information about potential nighttime sedatives or relaxers as the cat is obviously healthy and not in pain, eating normally and purrs as soon as she is picked up and held. Dr Jan's response? Calling my mom an incompetent pet owner pressing her to euthanize. I think that's insane. I think it's terrible. She sent my mom home in tears and I'm enraged. This cat is a member of our family. We only sought something to help her sleep at night in her old age. I have never left a bad review in my life but I think if your immediate response is to euthanize a member of my family and insinuate my mother can not care for a cat she has kept healthy and happy for two decades, you should not be a veterinarian. I made this yelp account solely to warn other concerned pet parents about Dr Marlene Jan. You will receive no empathy or constructive solutions from her. Do not patronize this business, your animals deserve better. I will be escalating this.
