My 99 y/o mom has been going to this group for over 40 years, which is why we were disappointed to have such an adverse experience at our last visit. The morning of her appointment I got a call that they would have to reschedule because they were "short-staffed" that day. OK, in pandemic times these things happen. However, when we got to our new appointment a week later we were informed that Dr. Kaufold, who my mother loved, had left the practice and we would be seeing Dr. Woods. The regular staff doing the eye tests and pictures were as wonderful and attentive as ever. The problem was Dr. Woods. It started with him not allowing me to be in the room with my mom citing COVID concerns. That was never an issue with Dr. Kaufold or, for that matter, any of my Mom's other health care providers. Did I mention that she was 99? And hard of hearing? And has mobility issues? So, I ended up standing in the doorway listening in and helping at a distance. Then he gave her less than five minutes of his time. "Your eyes are the same [she has macular degeneration] and there is nothing we can do for you. I will see you in a year" Dr. Kaufold had been seeing her every six months. Did I mention she was 99? No reference to the transition from Dr. Kaufold, no attempt to establish any rapport or get to know her. The impression we got of his internal dialogue was, "Since she is 99, she won't be a patient much longer, so no point in investing any time in this one." We were disgusted and complained at checkout that we were not told that Dr. Kaufold had left, no letter, no email, no phone call. They apologized and said that we should have been told when the appointment was rescheduled. We don't know why Dr. Kaufold left, but I will note that my favorite practitioner there (I am also patient), Dr. Cooper, also left unexpectedly a few years back. Perhaps Dr. Woods needs to find out why he can't hang onto the best colleagues. Needless to say, neither of us will be returning there for our regular care. read more

I came here for a routine eye exam and new glasses. I had to wait a couple weeks for an appointment, NBD. Reception was pleasant. I waited for about 30 minutes past my appointment time, NBD. The tech who examined my eyes was very personable and did a fine job from what I could tell. Problem is he REEKED of cigarettes. If someone is examining your eyes and their face is 4 inches for your face, their breath better be delicious and his wasn't. I could smell the smoke even just walking behind him. Gross. I then waited to see the doctor, about 10 minutes, NBD. This wasn't the main doctor at the practice but an older fellow. While I'm resting my chin in the head holding device and staring into the bright light, HE TOUCHES MY FACE WITHOUT WARNING ME. What the hell! He went to pull down my lower lid to see better into my eye but still! I jerked back and exclaimed because it was so abrupt. Not at all cool. He then repeatedly told me my eyes looked good and the Rx for both eyes was the same....except the left changed. Umm...so they aren't the same or are the same? "Your eyes haven't changed. Except the left, the left changed a little bit." He said this three times. The woman assisting the doc then walked me back out to reception and she explained more out of his earshot to clarify. I appreciated that very much. I decided on a new pair of frames in their opticial shop with minimal help from the optician. As anyone purchasing new frames knows, it is very difficult to tell what looks good when you can't see! He wasn't terribly helpful choosing a pair. He did offer me some "more expensive but worth the cost" frames to try on...gee, thanks. He was nice enough but he never sat down and spent time with me like other opticians have in the past. Another important tidbit is that he never measured my pupillary distance with that Viewmaster like device. I thought that was weird. And then I read more about it and that's a pretty big deal. He must have basically guessed. In the end, I got my new glasses and they are only okay. Not great, not as flattering as I had hoped and I wish I had had someone more helpful and discerning before I dropped $300 on them. I'm going to try to get some frames online now but when I called to ask for my pupillary distance (which I know for a fact the optician didn't measure, I was hoping it was on my eye exam) I was told (by the optician who DID NOT measure) that it is against their policy to give out that information because if I bought glasses online, they would be liable. That makes zero sense since they didn't even have that measurement for the glasses they gave me. I'm not going here again. TLDR: go somewhere else. read more

Sat there for 90 minutes for them to figure out my insurance, they finally found out I DID have insurance, but decided to tell me that I missed my appointment by 10 minutes. Despite being an hour early. If I was an expletive throwing man they would get the full vocabulary. Highly unreccomended. read more

Only writing this because my friend told me to read the reviews which were pretty bad. I recommend the office all the time. I like the place. The office is convenient to my job. I use Dr. Kaufold. He has early morning appointments so they are usually on time. He is a nice guy and my glasses and contacts have been no trouble. I have seen them get really busy during the day which is why I do mornings now. I know the technician Kira saw and he does smell like cigs, but I always request Lynn or Kelly. They have a small glasses shop so my wife tells me the frame selection is limited. I don't get fancy glasses so I didn't notice it. Tim in the glasses shop is very helpful and takes gets me all the insurance by crappy plan has. But my insurance is a review for another day. read more

Just an awful experience all around. It took me way too long (weeks) of playing phone tag to order contacts from them, and after giving them my insurance information they still tried to charge me even though the contacts were covered! Not only that but they ordered $60 worth of contacts when my insurance had a one time coverage of $150. That means my contacts won't be covered again until next year and I could have gotten $90 more for free. Also my concerns about my prescription being incorrect/questions about switching to monthly lenses were totally brushed off. Two stars because everyone was nice enough, just not attentive to customer needs and concerns. read more

I started having flashing and a big floater in one eye the other night. I went to Windham Hospital emergency dept. The ED Dr. told me to make an appointment with an ophthalmologist ASAP. He stressed I should be examined by an Ophthalmologist NOT Optometrist. He rec Windham Eye Group's ophthalmologists, Dr Wood or Dr Kaufold and told me he would send his report to them. The next day I called Windham Eye, explained my situation and requested an appointment with Dr Woods. When I arrived I was examined not by Dr Woods or another Ophthalmologist affiliated with the practice but by an unaffiliated optometrist who floats around with other offices in the area. He examined the eye, told me not to worry the eye was ok but if the symptoms get worse come back to get it checked again. He didn't give me a really clear answer as to why the flashing and floater happened. For the first time in my life I've scheduled an appointment for a second opinion. read more

I had a thorough eye exam and opinion on cataract surgery from Dr Woods. Subsequently had the surgery w marvelous results

excellent eye care, 2 MD's and an Optometrist. exceeds standards, better than my experiences w urban practices on East Coast
