So I wandered into Windfall Market in Falmouth thinking I'd grab a drink and maybe a snack... and walked out an hour later with a full cart, a slice of lasagna, a bouquet of sunflowers, and a deep spiritual connection to their lobster. This place is straight-up grocery heaven with a Cape Cod twist. The second you walk in, it smells like fresh bread and good decisions. The produce section? A rainbow of local goodness. The bakery? Dangerous. I had to physically restrain myself from buying every cake in that glass case (okay, I still got the chocolate mousse one, no regrets). Let's talk deli, holy wow. That prepared foods counter is giving restaurant vibes. Their lasagna slices looked like they were made by someone's Italian grandma who believes in extra cheese and love. We ordered our cakes for our wedding through the Windfall Bakery -- both a small bride & groom cake and 1.5 sheet cakes for our guests -- as well as for our engagement party nine months earlier. After getting rave reviews about the delicious cake from our engagement party guests, it was obvious we should order the wedding cakes through them too. There was an endless array of flavors and customization options. We even shared some photos of concepts we found on Pinterest and Instagram, and their talented designers followed our specifications and replicated the cakes to a T. We coordinated our order over email with the bakery department, which was incredibly seamless and convenient, and their friendly staff was a pleasure to work with. We also delegated a family member to pick up the cakes the morning of the wedding and had no issues at all. Just want to give props to the floral dept. at Windfall. I went in Saturday looking for an arrangement for my Mom for Mother's Day. There was only one pre-made arrangement on the table and the gentleman working behind the counter asked if he could help me. He asked me what I was looking for ( an arrangement or basket), the price point I was looking for and when I wanted to pick it up? When I arrived Sunday morning a woman took my name, went out back and came out with a beautiful arrangement. This is the second time I've purchased flowers here and both times they have far exceeded my expectations. I have most definitely found my go to spot for any future floral needs. My husband and I are frequent and loyal customers of Windfall Market. We are always happy to provide our patronage to small, local establishments. Unfortunately, my husband and I recently visited the market and we were treated poorly and rudely by Winfall Markets female manager. As we entered the store we were approached and sternly and rudely told that only one of us is to enter the premise due to the crisis of the Coronavirus pandemic that is gripping the nation. As patrons and citizens during this time, we understand the precautions that establishments that provide food are taking to ensure the safety of their customers and their workers. And it is just and fair to take great precautions during this time. And we, as a family, understand it even more because we are a family with healthcare workers in hospitals in the state of Massachusetts at present. Nevertheless, we feel that it's important for business owners and personnel to keep in mind that all human beings must be treated with utter respect and dignity, even more at this time in our history. There is no excuse. Especially, if you are serving the community. This was something we found lacking in the manager who approached us. And it was shocking and disturbing. It saddens us greatly that during such a difficult and unprecedented time in our country, when we must come together ( 6 feet apart), to have any customer treated with such disregard by its workers is appalling. In a customer service setting you do not treat your customers as pariahs. I addressed my concern to management before posting this review. Mr. Greenwood, manager at Windfall Market, responded with a long email defending his staff; sharing how "wonderful" they have been and stating that "his staff's rudeness was not a concern for him at this time." And his only concern was protecting his staff, not his customers. His email was a total disregard. An email where Mr. Greenwood reiterated, countless times his only concern at this time: his staff. Mr. Greenwood, the manager, shows an incredible disregard to his customers, whom he is to serve respectfully. It is clear why some of his staff treat their customers poorly. read more

We live in Mashpee, but I shop at Windfall Market on a regular basis for s number of reasons. First, their produce is excellent and they often carry items which larger supermarkets do not (e.g., fresh okra and certain kinds of Asian greens). Their produce sales are often better than competing large stores. Second, while their meat selection is smaller than the larger groceries, the quality is excellent and the butchers there are very friendly and attentive. Again, they regularly carry items which larger stores do not, e.g., chicken backs and chicken feet for making soups and stocks, whole beef bones, various types of duck. Third, again, while smaller, the deli section has the friendliest group of people working behind the counter. The sliced meats as well as various in-store prepared salads are all excellent. Fourth, a quick shoutout to the well curated selection of wines for sale at Windfall. I enjoy the experience of shopping there because everyone is so friendly and because I know I am getting quality, even if on occasion I paid a tad more for it. read more

Windfall is a great market. Overpriced, yes, but they have good meats and a good bakery, so I could overlook the price. What I can't overlook is the fact that as of today, they are charging for paper bags. Yes, it is only ten cents per bag, but the fact that they are charging for bags after EVERYTHING in the store is a good dollar per item ABOVE what you pay at a supermarket, is RIDICULOUS. If the scent of warm freshly baked bread doesn't get you to come here, then the delicious cheeses will. Windfall Market is a high end market without those annoying high end prices. There is an excellent deli where you can pick up pretty much anything for that beach picnic for that perfect turkey sandwich. The bakery however for me was the real winner. The breads are a work of art, even a normally boring white bread will transform any non gluten eater into a rabid carb lover. The wine selection needs some work, but there's just enough of a selection to help Windfall retain it's lofty five star rating. read more

Moving to MA from CA, I was concerned about what grocery shopping would be like, but this place has more or less allayed my worst fears. A nice selection of ripe, organic produce, good butcher, nice little floral area, and plenty of the high-end staples (imported pastas, ethnic ingredients, locally-raised eggs and honey, etc). My recent experience here started great but ended up being unacceptable. I am new to the area so, naturally went to this grocery store which is in a very close proximity to my mothers new residence in the surrounding apartments. She uses Mass SNAP benefits for the majority of her purchases as she is disabled. Being aware that hot prep foods are not covered by SNAP, she typically purchases a cold deli sandwich and a beverage around lunchtime. This has never been an issue as Shaw's or Stop and Shop in Falmouth just down the street but at Windfall Market she was refused for the cold prepped food covered by SNAP at the register. Being the type not to draw attention, we went elsewhere where there was no issue whatsoever .On principle, I'm curious if this a matter of your stores elected business practices, or if each shop should have to adhere to similar state standards? Not trying to make an issue over something unnecessarily, but as a new customer locally, and on a very set routine it's unfortunate. Having to go out of the way to a different store that accepts her form of payment for the same product seems like an issue that could be easily solved. read more

Unbelievably snippy customer service when returning rancid meat. To be clear, I am fortunate enough to know a lot about meat and the packing process. I hate to return meat-- I intended on spending my day smoking ribs. This particular meat was towards the end of it's sell by date, which is no problem if it's been handled properly throughout the supply chain. This particular cryovac of ribs seemed like it was packed properly, but based on the smell, it was likely left out of refrigeration for just enough time for it to go bad even. Might not have been windfall's fault but the exceedingly rude and curt customer service is certainly within their control. Over the past year I have lost a lot of faith in this establishment. Along with the meat today I saw multiple people shopping with masks off their nose/loose fitting. I have shopped here almost exclusively for over a decade and will not return. read more

Dear HR Department. Follow the LAW..... You need to tell your employees that COVID is in your store..... B.5. Suppose a manager learns that an employee has COVID-19, or has symptoms associated with the disease. The manager knows it must be reported but is worried about violating ADA confidentiality. What should the manager do? (9/8/20; adapted from 3/27/20 Webinar Question 5) The ADA requires that an employer keep all medical information about employees confidential, even if that information is not about a disability. Clearly, the information that an employee has symptoms of, or a diagnosis of, COVID-19, is medical information. But the fact that this is medical information does not prevent the manager from reporting to appropriate employer officials so that they can take actions consistent with guidance from the CDC and other public health authorities. The question is really what information to report: is it the fact that an employee--unnamed--has symptoms of COVID-19 or a diagnosis, or is it the identity of that employee? Who in the organization needs to know the identity of the employee will depend on each workplace and why a specific official needs this information. Employers should make every effort to limit the number of people who get to know the name of the employee. The ADA does not interfere with a designated representative of the employer interviewing the employee to get a list of people with whom the employee possibly had contact through the workplace, so that the employer can then take action to notify those who may have come into contact with the employee, without revealing the employee's identity. For example, using a generic descriptor, such as telling employees that "someone at this location" or "someone on the fourth floor" has COVID-19, provides notice and does not violate the ADA's prohibition of disclosure of confidential medical information. For small employers, coworkers might be able to figure out who the employee is, but employers in that situation are still prohibited from confirming or revealing the employee's identity. Also, all employer officials who are designated as needing to know the identity of an employee should be specifically instructed that they must maintain the confidentiality of this information. I always try and support the little guy. We often come to Windfall for groceries. This summer we needed a birthday cake and it was suggested to me that we call Windfall. We ordered and everything came out wonderfully. So next time we needed a cake later in the summer we ordered it came out great but the baker was very unfriendly to my sister who ordered. I thought maybe it was just a bad day. Well today I called to place an order for more than 24 hours in advance and without even asking what I needed was told no they need 48 hours and sometimes 24 depending on the cake. I could come see what they have there. Yeah forget about it, I'll go somewhere else. This would have been the third time in just a couple of months we would have used them not anymore. It's very sad during these times to be spoken to so rudely and to not even inquire about the request. read more

Everything you might need for a long term visit can be had here.....at about ~150% of the usual price. It is at once a too expensive and yet the one stop shop solution..... Chains like Walmart, Stop-And -Shop, and Shaw's are within 3 miles of this store but you can get in and out of here in a lot less time while also satisfying any esoteric 'must - have' shopping needs during a one stop foray....ginger beer, choice cuts and gourmet brands. They also have a breakfast and lunch counter at the front. In a bizarre way this supermarket reminds me of Whole Foods Market. read more

Windfall offers a much more pleasant grocery shopping experience than a large supermarket. I think that and the local business factor are enough to warrant shopping here all the time instead of at the alternatives. They have a great bakery with delicious breads, cookies, pastries, tarts, and cakes. They have a really nice deli and prepared food section. They always have samples of a locally-made salsa or something along those lines. They have beer and wine, something that other grocery stores can't offer (when will New England get with the program?). My wife is a big fan of their selection of Stonyfield Organic yogurt. She also claims that you won't necessarily spend more money shopping here than at Stop and Shop or Shaws. If they have sale items, you can save some money, while some items might be a bit more expensive due to higher quality. Windfall is kind of like a cross between Whole Foods and Stop and Shop - it has a nice atmosphere and healthier food choices... but it's not nearly as crunchy or expensive as Whole Foods. read more

We'd just arrived at Cape Cod and wanted to buy some milk for our tea, etc. The closest TJ's is in Hyannis, about 17 miles away. Alan checked Yelp and found Windfall Market, which was about 2 miles away, so we headed over before dinner to stock up. We walked into the market, which reminded me pleasantly of the Co-op in Ashland and several other small nice supermarkets, bigger than a corner grocery, but smaller than the behemoths. I walked past a display of flowers and plants and I looked wistfully at a gorgeous pale pink azalea that would look so beautiful in my garden if only I could get it home. We passed by a case of pastries and I moved on to the produce. I found some blueberries and bananas. Alan suggested buying bagels so we could have breakfast in. That sounded good, though I didn't want a bagel. He suggested a morning glory muffin, which isn't too sweet, so we picked up both, one for me the other for him. That grew into a cube of butter, a jar of locally made cranberry-ginger jelly, several different Chobani yogurts, a bottle of wine for me and some smart water for him. He wanted beer, but they only had West Coast beers, so he'll wait to find some East Coast beers. We also got the milk we originally came for, some Cara Cara oranges and a couple of apples, so we're set. They had cheeses, crackers, chocolates and a multitude of different specialty items that we didn't need. It's a well stocked store. As we were putting the groceries in the trunk Alan commented that it was more expensive than TJ's, but that we got a greater variety of things. It was also significantly closer. . read more

We were in this past weekend to pick up some sandwiches at the deli. My son has a food allergy so I asked the employee working at the counter if he could check the ingredients in a simple sandwich. He was gone for about 20 minutes and came back and said he couldn't check any of the ingredients. Not even the loaf of bread? So odd. I explained that we will just order elsewhere then and he laughed and moved on to the next customer. Massachusetts has strict guidelines through the Department of Public Health as it relates to food allergies. I hope Windfall Market will do some training with their employees so something like this doesn't happen in the future. read more

Windfall Market is a really nice store with a quite large, high quality selection of merchandise. The cheese selection is great, extensive fresh fruit and veg selection, very good and well-priced sandwiches, good selection of prepared take away food. This was a boon in our tiny studio with only a microwave... there is a small but well thought out wine department, deli, bakery, lots of groceries, decent frozen food and ice-cream selection. Staff we dealt with were extremely helpful and responsive. When we come back to Falmouth we will definitely do more shopping here. Much prefer this type of store to the standard chains. read more

Windfall Market is the upscale grocery of Falmouth. They have a ton of pastas, and plenty of local products. Unlike California, they have "bulky rolls" (Kaiser rolls) and Grape Nuts pudding in their deli section. It has a distinctly New England feel. They even have a version of Monopoly that's locally made with various Cape Cod destinations. A pleasant, though pricey, shopping experience. read more

Went to checkout and the manager refused to sell me the drinks Bc my younger cousin was with me. Was unaware that I can't buy groceries with a member of my family and then rudely and bluntly denied at the register with attitude. I was simply unaware this was a "law" of some sort and rather than treating the customer nicely the manager pretty aggressively told me I couldn't purchase some champagne for myself with my cousin in my presence. I left shaking with anger. Didn't even say happy birthday. By the way if this was a law at what age do you start refusing to sell to parents with their kids? This market does a good job of providing a wide variety of products to meet the needs of Falmouth area residents. I've always found the produce section fresh and well-stocked. My problem is with the employees. No one ever seems to know where a particular product I need is kept "I think that's in aisle 3 but it might be in aisle 7 - no aisle 4". Management isn't quite on the ball either. I went online this morning (Friday Aug 24th) to find this week's specials and found a link showing last week's specials. More attention to detail and more friendly employees would make this place better. read more
