Adventure Park. It has an early-'90s water-park ring to its name, and while parts of it look like they're from the early '90s, it's just a plain old park with athletic fields, a gym, green space, and some sparse picnic tables. And what would a Whittier-area park be without its obligatory random ravine and/or concrete drainage area? In this case, said concrete drainage area is dangerous-looking for kids and runs right through the park at a right angle. It's fenced off, and there are helpful bridges to cross it, but I wonder why they sited it through the park rather than on one end of it. I'm sure some kids have adventures here, because all parks with grass and play equipment can be fun and create childhood memories. But Whittier has spoiled me with its parks, and while this is technically South Whittier so it's outside of Whittier's borders, it's still close enough that it should feel like a Whittier park, and it most certainly does not. Why? Because it's totally flat. And totally rectangular. When my parents were walking twice a day during COVID lockdowns/curfews, I suggested they visit this park to change up their rotation, which comprised only two or three parks at the time. They said it was OK, and I later came with my mom and realized why it wasn't their favorite. The concrete path isn't totally straight, so there's some variety, but there isn't much shade along the path. There's lots of parking, and it serves its purpose as a neighborhood park, but it could be so much better.

And if you drive around the corner, there's another lot in the back of the park. Gotta go thru a residential area to get to it. The splash pad is gated, which is really nice. The parents sit outside the gated area under the trees. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. This splash pad is bigger than most, which is awesome. 25 kids were in the gated area when I went, and there was plenty more space for more kids. As of right now, you have to reserve an appointment online. You gotta reserve here on Yelp. Apparently you gotta do it on a desktop, but if you wanna do it on your phone, you gotta click around a bit.

The park is gorgeous, hidden in the quiet hills of La Mirada. It's a hot spot for locals and dog lovers. Super clean, everyone is respectful and kind which adds to the charm of this park and the pride of La Mirada. So this park doesn't have all the bells and whistles like major parks do; but, it gets the job…read moredone. There is plenty of grass for activities. There is plenty of shade for people like myself who love to read on the grass. I never see large crowds here possibly because the area is pretty well off so I have a feeling people here don't bother stopping by. Unlike some of the parks around, this one is super clean and nothing is ever broken. Major props to parks and recreation for keeping this place tidy.

Las Lomas Park doesn't look like much from the street. There's a parking lot, restrooms, a…read moreplayground, some picnic tables, and some workout stations. But looks can be deceiving, because while the park takes up just a tiny bit of Euclid Street, it extends far into the neighborhood, so it's many times as long as it is wide. The park is just north of Las Lomas Elementary School's field, and there's a (locked) gate from school property right into the park. In fact, many of the houses whose backyards abut the park have gates leading to the park, so living nearby might have its privileges. I came on a mission at night. My main goal was to find an open, safe bathroom to use, because I get tired of trying to sneak into fast-food place's bathrooms sometimes when I'm out on the go and absolutely need to go. The bathroom is the lowlight of the park. It's dirty, dilapidated, and gross. I thought I was going to need to use my phone's flashlight, but there are motion-activated lights in both restrooms, which is good, I guess. I kept thinking someone would emerge from the women's room as I walked past it, because those lights kept coming on, but no one was around. There's also a Little Free Library that I didn't have time to check out properly. The dirt walking path really is the star of the show, not because it's some wonderful thing but because it's just so unexpected. One lap is one-quarter of a mile, but keep in mind that the oval path isn't technically a loop, because the end and beginning are separated by some sidewalk, so if you walk four laps, you're actually walking a little bit more than a mile, since the gap between end and beginning isn't included in the quarter-mile measurement. There are two separate workout stations, but they're really close to each other, as are most of the picnic tables. There are also two grills. The western end of the park comprises the majority of the walking path and a bonus, hidden entrance from Durham Street, although I don't know whether this is a real entrance or forces one to trespass on private property between homes. There are signs facing that "entrance," so I assume the entire path from the street is a legitimate way to enter the park. I spent about forty-five minutes here on a Wednesday night. There were a couple of cars in the parking lot when I arrived, but they soon left. This could be a very shady park if it were in a worse neighborhood, but I think it's fine. But don't take my word for it--everything spooks me, so I've learned to ignore my own internal warning bells, because they're always crying wolf. I love random parks like this. How have I never noticed it before? Its low rating comes mainly from its awful bathrooms.

There were baseball fields, grassy areas, and that's about it. I noticed there was a sign saying no dogs were allowed. There were restrooms but the doors were closed; I assume they're only open when there is more activity at the park like baseball games on the weekend.
