The Bloomsday Race is a must in Spokane! It's well organized, with clear line up areas, plenty of…read moreportable restrooms lining the start line area and several water stations throughout the course. It seems to be a very well oiled machine after so many years! The race draws a huge crowd which made it fun but also a little challenging to run from a later start group-kind of like a lively game of frogger hopping around walkers, kids and adults, groups big and small, and navigating roads, curbs, grass and sidewalks for at least the first mile. The course was crowded the entire race so prepare yourself. A fun time overall and who doesn't love a good finisher t-shirt at the end! Definitely worth doing at least one!

The amount of work it takes to be a very mid runner is hysterical! In all honesty though I haven't…read moreput much "training"' into a marathon in a very, very long time. Every time I sign up for something and say "this is it, it's time to actually get ready for this" - life lifes! and I find myself nearing the start line saying something like, "just crank this mary out today and have fun- enjoy the course". That's what happened with Coeur d'Alene! I registered on 2/18 after making a rather large life decision and said this is it, I'll train out and really pour into this prior to MDW. A rather enormous training period for someone who can roll out of bed on a Sunday and jog a marathon but life did its thing and I got side tracked with some large life choices and the "training" took a back seat. I thought I'd have to scrap this race all together but when it turned out I could make it work after a relocation and months of packing, followed by a couple of weeks of moving- I bought a new flight, revised my hotel dates to only come in to pick up my bib, run and make it happen! Despite feeling fairly worn out from the weeks leading up I was so excited and thankful to be in town to participate. This course is stunning. It reminded me a little of one of my other fav marathon courses (Cape Cod). There were several pacers but only a 3:30 pacer and a 4:30 pacer near my times, and 3:30 is still a dream for snail marathoner like me. I knew 4:30 would be rather conservative but also the best bet for where I was at to help ensure I remain injury free. Shawn the 4:30 pacer was amazing!! His energy and positive, fun vibe made this run even more special. I love when ultra runners pace marathons because I feel like such a clown the second I even dare think I'm feeling the least bit fatigued, knowing they'll run 75+ more miles for a run. They really put things in perspective and help marathons feel like a 20min 5k in your local park. I'd highly recommend this marathon if you like small races with beautiful, tranquil, serene vibes. Everyone called this the hottest day of the year but with recently moving to TX 80s felt dreamy! All in all I still boarded my flight feeling like I'd run BPN Last Man Standing not a measly 26.2. I told myself shake it off and have been getting around fairly nicely since. Lastly, about a month ago I remember writing "may bib 261 find me at a marathon check in". The thing about life is, you can't wait around for any one thing to find you- you need to go out and get it. I was given bib 164 and figured I'm less than 100 from what I want. I got back in line, took a chance and asked for it. To my most grateful surprise, sitting in another box it was brought over and swapped out for me. If you don't know the history behind this bib, go educate yourself! Can't wait to run this marathon again! I think I'll plan on training and running it next MDW for time ;)

We saw painting, photography, woodwork, ceramics, glass, jewelry, and a whole lot of other interesting things by some very creative folks. There was a blacksmithing demonstration, live music, and kids activities, and lots of shade. Parking was available on the NIC campus. The section closer to Sherman also had food trucks, and food for sale, such as honey and beeswax, caramel, and spices. There was a wide variety and plenty to entertain the whole family.

The bands are great and very entertaining. Most importantly, the beer is gut (good)! However, the food (except for your typical brat) isn't what it used to be and quality has gone down. The atmosphere though seemed pretty off. I do want to put emphasis in the fact that this is not due to any of the bands. The bands, especially the Alpine Band California, were amazing and very engaging with the crowd. I just feel like everything else was very lackluster. Maybe it was because it was snowing and pouring rain that people were scrambling trying not to get wet outside but something just felt off. My overall opinion, great for beer and dance. I wouldnt recommend it for food though.

Fun Labor Day Weekend Event in St. Maries, Idaho…read more SITREP Every year, St. Maries, Idaho plays host to a fun festive event known as Paul Bunyan Days. My mom's side of the family - original denizens in St. Maries - have enjoyed the fun different years off and on. SETUP This festival can be found in many places and businesses that sponsor portions of the "Paul Bunyan Days", but there are also Beer Gardens that miraculous spring up in giant "Paul Bunyan-like tents" that good ole Paul, and his Blue Ox "BABE" could easily fit inside (this is hosted at the city park and it is boasted as "The Biggest Topless Bar in Idaho" called the Blue Ox (mainly because the beer garden doesn't have a top over it). *wink* THE FESTIVITIES From arts and crafts, lots of delicious BBQ foods, beer beer and more BEER, and fun evenings filled with music and dancing, this is indeed a good time. Not just for the locals, but lots of folks come down from Coeur d'Alene, over from Spokane, up from Boise and Walla Walla, because it's a stomping good time! FAMILY ACTIVITIES * Lots of carnival rides for the kiddies (and adults) * Food & craft vendors * Fireworks show - Sunday at dusk it is one of the country's largest arena firework shows - and since this Idaho, there aren't those annoying regulatory restrictions on how big a bang you can make (like there are in WA or CA). SHOPPING. Yes, I said "SHOPPING" Plan to shop St. Maries sidewalk sales for great bargains. Monday morning is the Labor Day parade - bigger and better every year. LOGGING STUFF Since St. Maries is a logging community, there are lots of events featured on the nearby St. Joe river, including three (3) days of LOGGING COMPETITIONS: * Running up poles * Cutting timber * Lots of water events * Motorcross Races *Slaps his knee* Dam, is this a helluva time! THE LOWDOWN For a good time with the St. Maries' locals, come and enjoy the Paul Bunyan Days festival!
