Tip: While there are some beautiful things to see, and the terrain here isn't particularly difficult, the signage is really bad so it's very easy to get lost :-( The trails here are good for hiking, running, and evening bike riding!  As I didn't bring my bike on the first visit I'm not quite sure how far you can go on the trail, but I'd love to find out sometime :-)

To see the actual location, refer to Google Maps. A lot to like here, and it's all dry camping. But if you are used to metro area conveniences, be ready to drive 20+ mins, with Suncrest being the better option, vice Reardan or Wellpinit. It's a pretty drive, wherever you decide to go. Sites here are spaced nicely for semi-privacy; meaning, it's nice to have a quiet space, but it's also nice to see neighbors 30 yards away. A full camp is a safe camp this far out. If you have a travel trailer, don't get Site 4. It's set up is 'against the grain' for the 1-way road, and the only reason we made it in was because of our smaller RV. Big rigs? No way. They have these--I guess--decorative rocks to define each camp site. They're in the way, mostly. Otherwise, if you have booked online, it's plug and play. We got to our site; name on the reserved placard; and let the relaxation begin. Easy...

This State Park is the former route of the Milwaukee Road Railroad. It runs across most of…read moreWashington State and into Idaho. It has 4 trailheads near Cheney, WA. One paved section runs northward about 4 miles from Cheney to Fish Lake, and is popular with bicyclists and walkers. From down town Cheney go about 1 mile south on the Cheney-Spangle Road. State Park parking is on the left. You do need a WA State Park Discovery Pass to park at any WA State Park. It's $30 per year for 2 vehicles, or you can pay for 1 day parking at the park. The trail also goes the southward from the same parking lot, but its gravel and not as popular. Some people find the old railroad bed trails a little boring because they are wide, and flat or have only gentle grades. Others prefer the easier trail. I should've known the bike ride was going to be different when the splattering of bugs on my…read morewindshield got thicker the closer I got to the trail. I'm not sure how much windshield wiper fluid I used but at one point I gave up. When a ladybug smacks your windshield, they leave a red mark that can only be removed with a little elbow grease and a gas station sponge. The Columbia Plateau Trail is a 130 mile rails to trail bike route starting at Fish Lake trailhead. The first few miles are through a ravine cut through the rock and dirt for the old railroad. It was an interesting visual experience to bike through it to see the amount of effort required to lay railroad tracks. Now that it is replaced by a bike trail, nature is slowly taking back its land. Bushes are growing at the trails edge and down the ravine, small streams flow down each side of the trail next to the rocks, small rodents and Gambel's Quail scurry along with the sound of a nearby biker and, of course, at this time of year, lady bugs are out in force. Lady bugs must like the trail because they are protected from the wind. There were clouds of them. As I biked along, they would attach to my shirt in packs then start crawling. I got pretty good at swiping a fluttering my shirt to clean them off. I had to consciously keep my mouth closed so I wouldn't inhale one. I kept my visor low so they would smack off my helmet instead of my face. I only biked on the trail for a few miles because the paved section of the trail only runs for a few miles before turning to rough gravel. The rough gravel would be fine for a gravel bike or my mountain bike but not my road bike with skinny tires. I'm not sure if it transitions back to smooth pavement at any point in the next 127 miles, but I imagine it does closer to city centers. For those who wish to continue biking on pavement, there is a trailhead at the three mile marker, allowing for a quick escape to bike the quiet, paved country roads.

Deer Park is falling off, the course is in good shape and tee boxes are flat. That's where the good…read moreends unfortunately. The staff need help and the speed of play is terrible. There are so many fivesomes it's hard to count most day. Starter is absent at all times, Marshalls just drive around, but they don't say anything when people are playing slow or driving on tee boxes or greens. They call people to start and no one shows up for 10 min. However, the restaurant and the restaurant staff are very good and I recommend them.

This is a very unique park offering panoramic views of the city, a massive manicured lawn, and the…read moreMoore-Turner Heritage Gardens. The north side of the park has an expansive sloped lawn that is kept lush and tidy. It's great for resting and lying in the sun, but doesn't serve as well for sports and games since it's on a pretty steep incline. Moving south across the parking area, you'll find access to the Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens, which are a real hidden gem. The gardens are well-tended, secluded, and wonderfully arranged. The downside is that the gardens are gated and kept on a separate schedule. The schedule isn't great in the best of times (IMO) and during Covid it's been completely shut down. Running alongside the gardens is the "Tiger Trail" which is basically a set of rough-hewn stone steps leading up to the overlook on W. Cliff Drive. Great views up here and it is a popular place for folks to park, stroll, or lounge briefly and take in the views. The surrounding neighborhood is also a sight to behold and worthy of a walking tour in its own right.

Worth a historically worldly looksee! ~ May 2024 is the 50th anniversary of the World Fair Expo '74…read morewhere 10 countries and 5.2 million people came together in Spokane, Washington. The city will be recreating the festive experience with the 50th year celebration. Timing wise, we were lucky to be in town for business beforehand staying at a nearby hotel within walking distance. We saved the best for last during our trip to visit the famous Pavilion and walk around the riverfront. This structure is truly a symbolic milestone of environmental awareness, development and cultural good times. Don't miss sight seeing here, performances or walking upon the incredible architecture. If you love fairs like I do, you'll appreciate the nostalgia of this redeveloped Pavilion.

Often, I was the only one here. Much more um..."peaceful" than viewing the bridge from the other/downtown side.
