This Kohala Coast Properties sells by using CSA Travel Protection in San Diego, CA. Due to my health issues (including a week in the hospital), we needed to cancel our trip. So we applied for a refund. CSA Travel Protection took months to review my medical records - then finally approved the refund. BUT said that they were only required to refund $150 of the $8,868.62 refund amount, because the rest of our refund should come from Kohala Coast Properties. Well as you can guess, Kohala Coast Properties isn't paying either. Now my husband and I are stuck in the middle - with NO REFUND. When I did a search on Kohala Coast Properties, Inc business license on the Hawaii.gov site, I found a message saying "This business is not in good standing." I so wish I had done this search before I rented the condo!

Victims of a craigslist scam we needed somewhere quick but affordable for our family AND 2 dogs. That's hard to find here! Fortunately this group had a house open. We saw it and were verbally given a rental amount. The house looked like it needed some cosmetic help, a REAL good cleaning, and much yard work. However, we were desperate. For a 3 bed 2 bath house the verbal price of $1800 a month was good for the area despite the needs of the house. That may be where most of the "good" stopped. After hearing of our situation and getting our info, we were told the price was going up $50 to $1850 a month. Then before we met to sign papers the price went up again to $1950 a month, supposedly so repairs could be done and yard fixed including irrigation. The company stated it was per the owner that the price went up. The entire time we lived there (about 9 months) no yard repairs were done and only 1 of the cosmetic repairs inside were done. The owner that they manage the property for is the reason they use that they can't do the repairs needed. On moving in we asked them to send cleaners BACK as the home was still quite dirty and smelled of cat urine. The cleaners supposedly came back but you could not tell, so we spent a good amount of time and money to clean the house ourselves. Repairs that were requested usually took a while to get done, if ever, and often required repeat visits. Some repairs promised were not yet done at the time of our moving out after 9 months. Then at move out time we experienced the oddest event. Though the place was so poorly cleaned when we moved in, Melva "white gloved" the place behind the company we hired to clean! We were given a list of what needed to be recleaned and we watched our hired cleaning service clean those things. In closing paperwork about $280 was STILL charged for them supposedly having to go back and clean more??!! That seemed quite humorous considering the history of our move in experience. Our dogs tore the screen out of the back sliding door. We bought supplies to change the screen but with the cleaning fiasco on moving out we never had time to do this. Instead of just changing the screen, which is a quick and cheap fix, we were charged for them supposedly buying and installing an entire new sliding door (~$230). As for staff we worked with Melva, and she can be quite hard to reach at times. Often when you call, the secretaries seemed unsure of when and/or if she would be at the office or even available. Some things you would here back from her later and somethings never. She frequently blames the homeowner as being the reason things couldn't be or wouldn't be done. However, we spoke with neighbors who knew the homeowner and they noted that this was not true. There was one young lady who worked the front desk who was a great help and made things much easier to deal with. So with all of that said, if you are in a bind and need a place to live on the island you might need to use Hawaii Dream Properties. They may have something readily available you can get into. Just be aware that you may experience some of the things we did. If you know going into it though it helps; which is why we are putting this review in. On an island where it can be hard to find housing we wouldn't say don't use them we would just say be prepared.

I even emailed tina a couple weeks before because I had a bad feeling and confirmed again the dates we were coming (April 2019) where she agreed. Two days before we were set to arrive I emailed them again and confirmed there would be a crib. Tina responds "yes we will have a crib for you for your trip in 2020". Naturally I freaked out and asked tina to call me she called me and I explained all our emails and conversations have mentioned the actual dates. She pretty much acted like it wasn't her problem and I hung up on her. I think she looked back at conversations because when my husband called her she was incredibly apologetic and gave us a full refund (ONLY REASON THEY ARENT GETTING 1 STAR!). She explained that she looked everywhere for somewhere to put us but every single thing on the island was booked. Lucky for us, I did a simple google search and found a FANTASTIC place, of course not managed by Aloha vacation rentals. I tried to figure out what went wrong, so went to their website and tried again to pick exact dates to schedule, it then takes you to a new page where the calendar changes to 2020! Out of no where! Very poorly done site. Very poorly done communication. But was refunded and we found another place so it all worked out in the end for us. But don't book through website.

This was especially important to our family as one of our children has food allergies and traveling can at times be challenging.
