I received a positive test for a sexually transmitted infection in my online chart along with…read moreminimal notes, so I called the office and asked to briefly speak with Dr. Johnson as I had a few questions about my results... I expected the doctor to call me back at the end of the day or perhaps the next day, as doctors usually do with an abnormal test. Instead, the receptionist snapped "WHAT questions??" and then stated that I would need to make another appointment and pay again in order to get to speak with the doctor at all. I was stunned to have someone in healthcare snap at me unprovoked. The verbal cruelty was disturbing and left me feeling vulnerable on top of worrying about my health and prognosis. When I finally heard from the doctor (via email) she was presumptuous, wrote condescending notes about how non-dirty and non-loose I am, and told me that patients only "hear" what they want to hear, which is why she doesn't talk to patients over the phone. (!) At this point I hadn't even yet told her what my actual concerns were. I had questions based on my medical history of autoimmune disease, as well as questions about how this might affect my partner and what precautions I should take. I also didn't fully understand how the infection gets transmitted as I tested negative in the past with the same partner. I was bizarrely mistreated and condescended to. I've never had this level of disrespect happen at a doctor's office before. The doctor finally did call and immediately started talking about social stigma (again, not a concern to me at all... Should it have been??), made more assumptions, didn't listen, interrupted, and answered questions I didn't ask. The doctor billed the 15 min conversation as a virtual office visit. She waived the copay since I sounded upset, which was nice... The conversation should have lasted about 3 minutes if she simply answered my questions. Of all specialists, why would a gynecologist coddle their patients and treat them as though they are immature and irrational?

I had my annual physical scheduled for 1.9, which was already four months past due as it is…read moreIMPOSSIBLE to get in because they overcommit their staff. On my way into the appointment, I received a text message that my ANNUAL PHYSICAL would be move to a TELEHEALTH appointment. How a doctor can give you a physical over the telephone without checking your heart, blood pressure, weight etc. is beyond me. When I called for more information about my appointment, as I was not aware if I was to receive a call or a video link and it was to start at 8am - I received attitude over the phone about the doctor "having an hour to call me." I explained that I did NOT originally schedule a telehealth visit so I was confused to the process. I was told that I would get a call from an "Unknown Number" within the hour to administer my physical. (???) I then received a phone call an hour later that was the "pre-screen/intake" call asking about my insurance information. I asked them if I would be charged to my insurance as an annual physical because this is just going to be a telephone call, they said "Yes, as the doctor can just order your tests and you can come in on your own time." I was told again I'd have the doctor call me imminently. Fast forward TWO hours when I call THEM to figure out what was going on. As my appointment was now scheduled three hours in the past and I didn't have anyone call me. From there I was told there are "notes in for the Dr. to call," and they "may need to reschedule." The next appointment is in April. When I said it's not acceptable for me to have my annual physical 7 months late and that I have been more than accommodating as I was physically ON MY WAY TO THE OFFICE in the morning and now I can't get a phone call back. From there I was told that a nurse "could" call me this afternoon to approve the necessary tests associated for a physical. I am STILL awaiting a call. HOW IS THIS THE STATE OF HEALTHCARE IN CHICAGO AND NORTHWESTERN IN 2023? It's unprofessional, rude and unacceptable. No one at that office would dare accept this as their standard of health care and it's poor service all around. UPDATE HERE: It's a day after and I've received NO CALL from a doctor - they essentially canceled my appointment and never got back to me ... but DID make sure to send me a "visit summary." WHAT VISIT?! I reached out to my insurance re: this fraud. Unbelievable. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
